Furious with the result, I remember after half an hour thinking it was a nice relaxing game to watch. It's strange because we played well, but you have to put your chances away. Any side above us would have closed that game out, let's hope we learn our lesson. It's lucky we're sitting in ninth. Another positive is that no one seems to be fazed by Cortese's departure. But in 20 years following us I have never been no angry or disappointed in a result

As said on the match thread:

Good to be talking about the team, tactics, squad depth again though as opposed to 'visions' , "sell or not to sell" , and corporate accountability of chief executives.

But:

**** poor result given a dominant lead

injuries - ****ed again , especially as Boluc looked like coming off at one point before Ramirez and Lovren's injuries

Have not seen the goals conceded to comment on any individual errors

Finishing yet again - wasteful

Conclusion then, as said at about half time, wasteful in front of goal when dominating, thrown away etc. So glad that its "business as usual" and that this weeks events have not affected them in any way.

At least Osvaldo is back next game, Lambert was poor and sadly has been for quite a while.

Doesn't win it in the air and rarely gets into goalscoring positions anymore.

If Lovren is out for a lengthy period we really will need to bring in someone else.

Cork was outstanding

Can't really take that as a positive to be honest, given our display for 60% of that match! This is Sunderland, not Man Utd.

But this is the prem. we have done it many times in the past. Even the bottom teams have very good players

Should have won but no away pint is to be sniffed at

4 points from last 2

The amount of chances was crazy, Ricky just can't play a full game in this system he looked knackered after 60mins, I really hope we play Dani next game as if we feed him this many chances he will score a tonne, Jrod should of done better for the other chances as well, his conversion % must be really low.

Looks like Gaston has ligament damage and I would guess Lovren broken/fracture fibia looking where he was holding, not good, not good at all.

I would of taken a draw before the game but the volume of chances we created and sunderland did nothing in the 1st half but they looked the only ones going to win in the end.

Thought Morgan was missing today, Jack looked on his own, Chambers made quite a few errors and I am not sure Luke is comfortable 1-1 he looked like he would lose every one with Johnson.

Bummed but C'est La Vie, its football but the injuries are a proper ****er especially Dejan.

Feeling flat right now, mainly because of the injuries. Losing Lovren would kill any hopes of winning the cup, we need him to be fit within the month. A shame not to win, but we were awesome in the first half!

Though Lovren and Ramirez's injury has to be the focus - would be gutted if either miss the World Cup

Very disappointing after such a great first half, but we've been doing that of late. Dominating not taking our chances & paying a heavy price for that. Gutted about Ramirez shocking out of control challenge by Wes Brown & we are really going to miss Lovren. Hope it's not to long but looks like a bad one. Ref simply dreadful once again.

Gaston really doesn't look good. The panic on the faces of the physio's said it all, and the fact that BT didn't replay the rest of that tackle due to the images.

I think he's out of the world cup without question, doubt he'll be back for the start of next season. I feel so sorry for him, this was a period where at last he was starting to come on, do something, make a difference....and boom. He's had no luck here at all.

What's this about Boruc staying on? Did he injure himself as well? Haven't been able to follow the game today. We almost get back to a full strength side and then Lovren has to get injured. FFS. Not looking forward to Yoshida or Hooiveld playing again for a while. Urgh

I appreciate the irony, given the fantastic goal but JRod need to work on his finishing, constantly trying to sweep the ball past the keeper when put through is so frustrating.. have always felt this way about the lad.. does everything right but the finish..

Did he look like he was going to score in that passage of play or make a chance? Problem with lallana was that he had loads of ball and didn't create anything.

Would have been satisfied with a draw before the game (after all the shenanagins this week) but gutted to have not picked up all 3 points after that first half display. Cork MotM

That's about it.

Glad we'll have Osvaldo back for the next league game as it looks like Ramirez is going to be out for a while. Would warmly welcome a new attacking signing but in the circumstances I'm not sure we can expect that. Becomes imperative if Lambert leaves.

It was a good run, real power and intent. He was opening the game up there for sure, I imagine the GK would have had to make some sort of save if he wasn't tackled.

Brilliant performance but undone by 2 silly lapses, one from the keeper which was really poor.

Too often we dominate and don't win. That shouldn't have just been a win, it should have been a win by 2 or 3 goals. But there we go, Sunderland did well to come out and improve.

Gutted with 2 more freak injuries, hope they're not serious and Gaston was looking bright again when he came on. Such small margins, he's a fraction away from beating the last man and scoring, instead it's an injury.

What's the missing ingredient? Belief? Concentration? Taking more chances? Creating more? I haven't seen a team that dominate and not win for a long time.

Shaw, Lovren, Cork, Morgan, Lallana all fantastic.

JRod excellent but part of the problem in that he does fail to take some good chances. Lambert wasn't great, touch a bit off today but didn't get many clear chances and did set up a few. Boruc little to do and could have done better with the first and would save the second 9 times out of 10 so very disappointing.

For the amount of ball lallana had he didn't create enough.

If those injuries are very bad then would think we need to bring someone in.

Whilst I agree, the thing is we need to let someone go.

No one is ready to overpay neither of the 2 to have them in their squads, and whilst Yoshida might have a reputation in Japan and maybe could attract Central European interest, Jos is a globetrotter and the leagues where he was successful (Scandinavia) will never be able to afford him, not even in the terms he had in the Championship.

As for Ramirez, if it's not considered a club crime, we could perhaps consider a loan...

Could've been muscular, or maybe a hairline fracture a la Wanyama.

If something ripped then it could be worse than Ramirez. Let's hope the entonox was just because of anxiety and fear...

From the replay it happened when Lovren was on the ground. He tried to kick the ball and his right knee contacted the back of the other player's leg so as his leg straightened it strained his knee.

Gastón's looked nasty. Brown's follow-through caught Gastón's left ankle and his full weight bent it through 90 degrees. It looked nasty but I don't think we'll know until the swelling goes down.

Ref was shocking today. Even if we won id have said that. Ramirez was fouled at least twice prior to his injury tackle and the ref did nothing. And that final tackle was brutal. He got the ball after going through the player. In my view the ref bottled a lot of decisions today. The standard of refs in the PL is getting worse and worse.

The linesman however seem to be getting better.

We won't replace Ramirez but we definately need a defender in. And I bet we don't. Who will come here with our long term future up in the air. Just as we were returning to full strength as well. What a load of crap.

Like many, would have taken a draw. The Brown tackle was scandalous; if referees are supposed to be promoting the game through their actions - this was a poor f**king job. Ramirez put in a mesmerising run only to be hacked down. Where the f**k is the protection? Useless refereeing, but we let Sunderland get back in far too early.

really hope Gaston and Dejan can still go to Brazil.... those looked bad. not to mention if the ref had correctly blown at the Gaston challenge. Dejan wouldn't have gone down.

More important than the result for me

Fingers crossed

Totally agree.

Hope both make Brazil - insignificant how many miss for us in comparison, just hope back in time to get fit for their teams.

Yes, very poor. At one time any tackle from behind liable to injure an opponent would be an automatic red card.

At least we effectively have an FA Cup break next Saturday but I don't think two weeks are going to be enough for these two.

This is Sunderland, not Man Utd.

Didn't they beat Man Utd at home in a semi final the other day?

Sunderland are fighting for their lives and we should have put the game to bed before they even scored.

Second half was pretty poor. Boruc made a mistake, but I thought Shaw could have closed him down better. We were exposed badly down the left a couple of times and Shaw had no protection. Thought Chambers struggled and Lambert is playing himself out of the World Cup squad. Never the quickest, but his legs have gone, doesn't seem to want to jump and instead tries to buy a free kick or put the defender off.

Need Yoshida to step up to the plate now.

We've only got 10 days - Arsenal at home is on the Tuesday night.
