View From The Top Posted 17 January, 2014 Posted 17 January, 2014 OK fellow lounge dwellers, dig deep. I'm stupid enough to 1/2 kill myself riding 100 miles, including some huge chuffing hills for charity so please be kind enough to give £2 each (or more if you could) to support me. What's £2? Not even enough for a pint down south (you can buy houses in Stoke for that mind you). I've never ridden 100 miles before nor attempted to raise such a hefty sum for a charity. http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100 or text DCWA66 with the amount £2 ot more if you can afford it, to 70070. Dig deep guys, the hospice's can't help people without public support as they don't get a penny from the state. I appreciate every penny that you can give and if I could, would thank you personally for your donation.
Whitey Grandad Posted 17 January, 2014 Posted 17 January, 2014 All right you smooth talking bugger, you've talked me into it. Good luck.
View From The Top Posted 17 January, 2014 Author Posted 17 January, 2014 And it really is greatly appreciated.
Fowllyd Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 Well worth a few quid of anyone's money, so why not mine... I reckon you'll love doing the ride - just take it at a pace that suits you and you'll be fine.
View From The Top Posted 18 January, 2014 Author Posted 18 January, 2014 Thanks very much. I'm really greatful.
sussexsaint Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 All done buddy, best of luck and a noble cause. All those 2.50 gift aids will add up as well.
View From The Top Posted 18 January, 2014 Author Posted 18 January, 2014 Thanks very much everyone. I really do appreciate it.
View From The Top Posted 18 January, 2014 Author Posted 18 January, 2014 If any of you corporate types fancy some excellent publicity and exposure with your corporate logo on my charity jersey, seen by 100,000+ people on the day, then let me know. Of course you could still donate using http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100 or by texting DCWA66 with the amount that you wish to donate to 70070.
View From The Top Posted 18 January, 2014 Author Posted 18 January, 2014 Thank you very much and Mark Littlewood, wow, thank you very, very much. I am genuinely tearful at the generosity of you all.
Minsk Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 VFTT, please pm me an address where I can send a cheque to. I turned 50 last year. Didn't do anything so grand. Just tried to ignore the years by; taking my parents on a holiday like the ones they used to take me to; going to Disney (Paris) with my daughter; meeting up with old school friends; etc. Anyway, good luck and tell where I can send a cheque (can't do paypal from here).
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 You caught me late on a Saturday. Maybe you will agree with me more often now. Great cause!
View From The Top Posted 18 January, 2014 Author Posted 18 January, 2014 You caught me late on a Saturday. Maybe you will agree with me more often now. Great cause! Very, very generous of you and I'm truly thankful.
View From The Top Posted 19 January, 2014 Author Posted 19 January, 2014 Come on people, just £2 each would make a massive, massive difference. Rode 130km today, in filthy conditions, up some chuffing steep hills in a training ride, just to help people I've never met. Let's show that we still a generous people in our fair land.
View From The Top Posted 21 January, 2014 Author Posted 21 January, 2014 Now we are all feeling fluffy after reading KL's statement let's turn that fluffiness into ££ by giving just a couple of quid to help those poor souls at their end of days. One day, it may be us that are using a hospice and each and every one is self funding. http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100 or text DCWA66 and the amount you'd like to donate to 70070. Cheers.
View From The Top Posted 24 January, 2014 Author Posted 24 January, 2014 Did you know that the majority of people who see out their days in a hospice are all alone. They'd die alone as well if it wasn't for the dedication of the staff that man these places. Don't know about you guys but I dread being on my own at my end of days. Every £ that you guys donate will mean that someone will have a hand to hold as they draw their last breath. http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100 or text DCWA66 and the amount you'd like to donate to 70070
View From The Top Posted 24 January, 2014 Author Posted 24 January, 2014 Cheers Minty. Greatly appreciated.
View From The Top Posted 25 January, 2014 Author Posted 25 January, 2014 only £8 needed to hit £500 of the £750 needed in support of my local hospice. http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100. Come on people, whose going to donate and push it over the £500 mark?
View From The Top Posted 25 January, 2014 Author Posted 25 January, 2014 Thanks to Mr Cope I've now cracked £500 but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't give. Make a difference, don't be a misanthropic a*sehole your whole life!

If it's such a worthy cause why wait until some nobody on a football forum begs for money before giving over your cash?

stug76 Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Tit Sent from my GT-P3110 using Tapatalk I have no problem with people raising money for charity. Start a thread, make your request and hope for the best, thank people for the donations. Don't call people arseholes if they won't donate and don't post it on multiple threads. It's a surefire way to undermine the efforts of other well intentioned fund raisers. My second point was a bit off topic and reflects my opinion, which is valid but perhaps not the correct thread.
Ziggy Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 I work in Staffordshire so happy to support this great cause. Good luck!

Jog on, it's worked a treat since I've already raised over 2/3 of the money I need to raise so hopefully it'll go beyond that meaning even more help for those who need it. Most of us are misanthropic ar*eholes in The Lounge, myself included so the very fact that I can be bothered to challenge myself whilst raising much needed funds means that I'll nag and annoy like f**k to get as much cash out of as many people as I can. If you don't like it, then don't read the thread and as for spamming other threads, it's 1, the pompey one, so get your facts correct before spouting off.

Fair enough, that's your position, and I have stated mine (but just for the record I would consider 2 threads "multiple"). Just out of curiosity, and it's a genuine question, is the £750 a threshold set by the charity for you to get a "free" place in the event? (by free I assume that charity pays for the entry but you probably pay a similar amount as a donation yourself and I acknowledge the effort that goes into an event like this.)

The £750 is the minimum set by the charity for a place. They only have 8 "gold bond" places as they are a small local charity (some big charities will have 100s).
View From The Top Posted 26 January, 2014 Author Posted 26 January, 2014 Thanks Adrian. I really do appreciate it.
View From The Top Posted 27 January, 2014 Author Posted 27 January, 2014 With all the awful stuff we see on the news and read about in the papers it's good to know that so many generous people still exist and are willing to help a very worthy cause. Thank you to all who have given so far.
View From The Top Posted 27 January, 2014 Author Posted 27 January, 2014 Thanks to your unbelievable generosity I'm only £100 short or my original target which is fantastic. Let's dig deep and see if we can push through it and together help a very, very worthy cause. I'll take the pain if you can give a quid. http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100
View From The Top Posted 28 January, 2014 Author Posted 28 January, 2014 I couldn't even walk after that Sufferfest session on the turbo trainer. Why do I do it? For this. http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100 Give a couple of quid & help make a difference. I'll do the pain, you give the quid.
View From The Top Posted 31 January, 2014 Author Posted 31 January, 2014 Road tyres are on as the forecast is good for Sunday and I'll be riding up some big hills as training. Want to help a good cause? http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100 or text DCWA66 followed by £1, £2, £5 or £10 to 70070. Thanks very much.
Minty Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Weather is supposed to be absolute pants this weekend, take it easy out there!
View From The Top Posted 31 January, 2014 Author Posted 31 January, 2014 (edited) Weather is supposed to be absolute pants this weekend, take it easy out there! Cascadia Saint Posted 4 February, 2014 Posted 4 February, 2014 Good luck with the training! Could've sworn I read it was this weekend... Anyway, keep up the good work! Target raised already is awesome, you should have a healthy amount by the event!
View From The Top Posted 4 February, 2014 Author Posted 4 February, 2014 Thanks very much. I'll hopefully top £1000 by the event.
View From The Top Posted 6 February, 2014 Author Posted 6 February, 2014 Heading towards £800. You lot are amazing. http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100
View From The Top Posted 9 February, 2014 Author Posted 9 February, 2014 You lovely people, I know loads have already been so very generous but that doesn't mean I'll stop posting! As you know I'll be riding my first non stop 100 miler for my local hospice (read about their care services here https://www.khhospice.org.uk/care). It's going to be hard & it's going to be painful but it's worth it for the cause I'm supporting. Even the training leaves my legs like jelly and me wanting to puke from the effort so please give a few quid to make it all worthwhile. http://www.justgiving.com/Davidride100 or text your donation to 70070 and enter DCWA66 followed by the amount. Thanks.
View From The Top Posted 13 February, 2014 Author Posted 13 February, 2014 Lovely people, spare me your loose change for a worthy cause.
