Duds of 2013

I know it's halfway through January but today I've been reviewing one of my duds of 2013 which featured in some music journalists "Best of" list.

 

OK mine is: Ripley Pine by Lady Lamb The Beekeeper

 

It's a bit like Lesley Feist without the voice or the songs.

 

So what other well fancied runners failed to make the Canal Turn?

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories.

 

I'm a big fan of these gents(/robots) and was extremely excited by their return and actually think they marketed the album pretty well - in that they generated a huge amount of buzz/hype around the release.

 

Additionally, the lead track was a great track. Yes, it is bloody annoying now, but that is only becuase it has been overplayed I don't think that's entirely their fault.

 

I could see what they were aiming for, and what they were trying and I don't begrudge them it - but ultimately the album was a massive anti-climax and a pretty flat, dull album.

Do most people stream their purchases online now before buying? I don't so I'm probably liable to make a few clangers over the year but I accept that. My main source is 6 Music during the day and the weekend broadsheet reviews.

I do have a spotify account, but I mostly use that as a "try before you buy thing".

 

It's also good for my phone, which is the main reason I have it. If I like an album, and am going to listen to it a fair bit - I will buy it.

 

I've recently got on the 6Music bandwagon, liking it so far.

Ha! I'm an oldie...the last time I did that was in the upstairs of a record shop at The Junction sitting on Indian scatter cushions to the smell of Jos Sticks listening to the full vynal album of "My Goals Beyond".
