teacher Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 My brother works in London and the rumour that is circulating is that Cortese wanted to take over the club but couldn't agree on a price with the family. Has anyone else heard this?
Roger Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 That's a load of rubbish. We are better of with the liebhhrs.
Wade Garrett Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 My brothers work in Southampton and they haven't heard that either.
Jai27 Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I work in London and Ive not heard this. Everyone was talking about it on the tube this morning. Didn't you get the memo?
adrian lord Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I'm on a suburban train in london now and no one is talking about it.

Torres Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 The guy that made my coffee in Costa Coffee, Kingsway, WC2 was telling me the same thing this morning.
adrian lord Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Arriving at Putney, still no rumour sweeping the train.
mulletsaint Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I live in London and just got back from the school run. No one mentioned this, not even the kids.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Cortese should move on now. He's taken us as far as he can imho KL is the billionaire and its money, not a suit that will take us to the next level One of my clients once described Nicola as a monoploy player that started with £15,000 while all other player had the regular £1,500
Pancake Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Everyone was talking about it on the tube this morning. Didn't you get the memo? Ah, that explains it, I walk rather than tube it.
Miltonaggro Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I've worked in London for 25 years and can confirm that I've never heard this rumour, neither has my brother who lives in Southampton...
Badger Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 My brother works in London and the rumour that is circulating is that Cortese wanted to take over the club but couldn't agree on a price with the family. Has anyone else heard this? Only on here. Probably won't be mentioned in tonight's Gloucestershire Echo but I'll check, just in case Rupert has been spouting in his local and its been picked up.
Jai27 Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Ah, that explains it, I walk rather than tube it. Don't worry I'm sure there will be 19th century paperboys running the streets with the news in a matter of minutes.
Roger Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 The bloke down the off license was saying that a mate told him that cortèse was wearing a suit yesterday!
Badger Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 The bloke down the off license was saying that a mate told him that cortèse was wearing a suit yesterday! Perhaps he was going for an interview ?
Roger Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Perhaps he was going for an interview ? Apparently was some Masonic bash!
Pancake Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Don't worry I'm sure there will be 19th century paperboys running the streets with the news in a matter of minutes. Extre extre, Don Cortese in toiks wiv Sarfamtun!
Guided Missile Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 The problem Cortese had is that he knew, to the last penny, what the club cost, including the money invested since the takeover. He feels that any increase in value since that date is due to his skills as a Chairman. It is apparent he has been working behind the scenes since Markus passed away, to raise the finance to buy the club, but he just doesn't have the resources and probably resents any price over the amount invested. Football's a billionaires club now and let's hope Cortese stays the hell away. We know from the past, that large egos and small bank accounts is a mixture that leads to financial disaster. The best outcome is a large corporate or sovereign wealth fund steps in and runs Saints like a normal professional business, not a small empire for a self-preening Italian, who treats people like sh! t.
Hatch Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I just got to my office in London, switched on PC and there is a rumour on a message board that says the same thing. so Story Confirmed.
saint si Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I am in London will be on the tube in about 1 hour. I will report back if I hear anything.
Barry Sanchez Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I work in the sex industry and I have not heard this rumour. Sent from my Android C3P0

ericofarabia Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 All this over Nasty Nic's decision to have a Jacob's Club for a mid morning snack. Which flavour will it be, Mint. Orange or Raisen and Biscuit? Decisions decisions.
Toomer Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 We have just been talking about this in office and one school of thought is we may not have seen the last of Cortese. Perhaps he has contacts who are interested in buying the club and want him to front the deal and become CEO so he had to resign so there would not be a conflict of interests, time will tell.

dellboypete Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Just arrived in the office in St Jame's Sq , SW1- no news here and we are surrounded by hedge funds who claim to know everything

jasonb Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 My brother lives opposite the training ground entrance (true fact) and he's heard nada either...
doubleonothing Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I haven't got a brother and am not in London today. As a result I think it would be unfair for me to comment. So stop pressuring me to!
Crouchie's Lawyer Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 One of my clients once described Nicola as a monoploy player that started with £15,000 while all other player had the regular £1,500 Was that before or after they made the decision to go large on their McChips and Coke?

Hooray - a decent post and not yet another oh so hilarious pi $$ take of the OP.
monkadill Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I work from home and i have never heard this rumor. My wife is a mobile hairdresser and she did have a sniff of a rumour though..
There when Franny scored Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Hooray - a decent post and not yet another oh so hilarious pi $$ take of the OP. Totally agree. The possibility of Cortese taking over the club with a different backer is surely a valid topic of conversation given his past assertions of having other interested parties waiting in the wings. Even if the OP's source was a bit vaugue it would be interesting to have some sensible contributions on this. My opinion is that he appears to be a single minded man who has already put a lot of effort into the "project". Not sure he would walk away that easily if he sees an opportunity to come back with a more ambitions backer.
Jai27 Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Hooray - a decent post and not yet another oh so hilarious pi $$ take of the OP. The opening post was utterly ridiculous. The replies followed suite.

Seaford Saint Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Thanks for somebody taking the poster's question and discussing it....all posters are equal it's just some posters are more stupid than others.....OK I am in Newbury and I have heard nothing, I will go and check with the neighbour before he nips down to his allotment to see if he has heard anything. Nice one Guided Missile...
kpturner Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I think someone needs a cuddle.Yeah maybe - why don't you send him/her a PM and ask.
saintbob40 Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 I work from home and i have never heard this rumor. My wife is a mobile hairdresser and she did have a sniff of a rumour though.. "Where are you going on holiday, did you watch celebrity big brother last night......are you planning to resign due to a conflict of interest and then head up a buy out consortium using debt and mezzanine funding......." that sort of thing perhaps? Your wife does a good job on NC's hair by the way...it never moves!

Cortese's problem is that the Liebherr's 5 years are up (5 year plan) and they want the return that Cortese promised them when he took over. Presumably they couldn't agree a price, or Cortese struggled to get any finance at all. Liebherr will appoint some Dulieu type to find a buyer for the club.
Bucks Saint Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 (edited) I work in the City, in financial services, I know Mark Fry and he has not heard this. We are both very annoyed we have not been told Edited 16 January, 2014 by Bucks Saint
Window Cleaner Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Well as I missed all of the excitement yesterday due to being down in Montpellier and having a broken laptop, I've heard nothing, well next to nothing. Is it true that NC resigned because an uncouth tradesmen farted in his lounge whilst renewing the wooden floor?
