Cortese to take over the club?

Recommended Posts

My brother works in London and the rumour that is circulating is that Cortese wanted to take over the club but couldn't agree on a price with the family. Has anyone else heard this?

Only on here.

Probably won't be mentioned in tonight's Gloucestershire Echo but I'll check, just in case Rupert has been spouting in his local and its been picked up.

The problem Cortese had is that he knew, to the last penny, what the club cost, including the money invested since the takeover. He feels that any increase in value since that date is due to his skills as a Chairman. It is apparent he has been working behind the scenes since Markus passed away, to raise the finance to buy the club, but he just doesn't have the resources and probably resents any price over the amount invested.

Football's a billionaires club now and let's hope Cortese stays the hell away. We know from the past, that large egos and small bank accounts is a mixture that leads to financial disaster. The best outcome is a large corporate or sovereign wealth fund steps in and runs Saints like a normal professional business, not a small empire for a self-preening Italian, who treats people like sh! t.

Cortese should move on now. He's taken us as far as he can imho

KL is the billionaire and its money, not a suit that will take us to the next level

One of my clients once described Nicola as a monoploy player that started with £15,000 while all other player had the regular £1,500

Are you going to post this gem on every thread?

We have just been talking about this in office and one school of thought is we may not have seen the last of Cortese. Perhaps he has contacts who are interested in buying the club and want him to front the deal and become CEO so he had to resign so there would not be a conflict of interests, time will tell.

I think he is off to Milan myself.

this theory would carry a lot more weight if you were in London.

Totally agree. The possibility of Cortese taking over the club with a different backer is surely a valid topic of conversation given his past assertions of having other interested parties waiting in the wings. Even if the OP's source was a bit vaugue it would be interesting to have some sensible contributions on this. My opinion is that he appears to be a single minded man who has already put a lot of effort into the "project". Not sure he would walk away that easily if he sees an opportunity to come back with a more ambitions backer.

Thanks for somebody taking the poster's question and discussing it....all posters are equal it's just some posters are more stupid than others.....OK I am in Newbury and I have heard nothing, I will go and check with the neighbour before he nips down to his allotment to see if he has heard anything.

I work from home and i have never heard this rumor. My wife is a mobile hairdresser and she did have a sniff of a rumour though..

"Where are you going on holiday, did you watch celebrity big brother last night......are you planning to resign due to a conflict of interest and then head up a buy out consortium using debt and mezzanine funding......." that sort of thing perhaps?

Your wife does a good job on NC's hair by the way...it never moves!

I agree with this basically. Cortese's problem is that the Liebherr's 5 years are up (5 year plan) and they want the return that Cortese promised them when he took over. Presumably they couldn't agree a price, or Cortese struggled to get any finance at all. Liebherr will appoint some Dulieu type to find a buyer for the club.

Well as I missed all of the excitement yesterday due to being down in Montpellier and having a broken laptop, I've heard nothing, well next to nothing. Is it true that NC resigned because an uncouth tradesmen farted in his lounge whilst renewing the wooden floor?

Yes, that's the crux of it all really.
