Southampton FC: Appointment of Chairman

Southampton FC today announces that club owner Katharina Liebherr has taken on the role of non-executive Chairman.

This follows the resignation of Nicola Cortese.

A search has begun for a Chief Executive Officer who will take over Mr Cortese's executive duties.

Katharina Liebherr said:

"With great regret we have accepted the resignation of Mr Cortese. He has done a wonderful job at the club and we very much wanted him to stay. A search has now begun for a successor. In the meantime, it is business as usual and we will ensure that the manager, the team and all the staff at the club have all the help and support they need."

This signals the Liebherr's bringing in Rupert Lowe to oversee the sell off. What goes up comes down and so the circle turns and what went returns.

''very much wanted him to stay on our terms'' I'd have thought ;)

Sad day. Some of the players will be so ****ed off by this. Shaw's Dad inviting offers already...downhill from here.

Wording of the statement is obviously bull****.

Just lost the driving force of the club.

The king is dead, long live the queen.

i hope she either gets her finger out and sells quickly, or continues where NC left off. If she starts dithering about, that will be fatal.

You are really nuts.

Maybe there's a silver lining to be had here? Maybe one way of persuading Pochettino and the players that there is life after Cortese is for Katharina to get her chequebook out and make a couple of headline grabbing signings in the next couple of weeks....

Well it has been fantastic and the club are in great shape..... Someone to take us to the next level please. I feel a takeover will be needed.

Nah, there'll be no new signings. Can be sure of that now.

In a word. No.

This place probably should be avoided for a few days. Bad enough with so many drama queens normally so don't know how they'll cope with losing NC and what sh1t will be spouted.

Cortège isn't even trending on Twitter yet. What is going on!

or ''very much wanted him to stay, but not on his terms''

Truth is, we'll never know.

This site gets more and more surreal with each passing day....

Get a grip some of you. He wasn't the one with the money and he had little say on the on-field matters. Unless Pochettino goes (which wouldn't be all that much of a disaster) and all our best players leave then this is pretty irrelevant. Hopefully Le Tiss/Benali can be welcome at the club again and we can get our stripes back next season.

Or to appoint the new Chairman quickly who has been vetted by the new owners who are much wealthier than the Liebherrs and have a real background in Sport.

Nope, if we are lucky ART's right, if we are unlikely it's yacht watch time

You'd have to imagine KL is on the phone to MP tonight with various reassurances etc. She also ought to briefing the players. Tomorrow's pressed should be fun, wonder what poor player they trot out to face the press pack

not sure if i would be gutted if my boss left.

just another chapter in life of a 60 year old saints supporter, does not effect my love/support of the club

what ever will be will be

Southampton thing been rumbling for a long time. They've made a bad mistake. Liebherr only interested in selling club.

Whoever gets Cortese will be making a shrewd move. Very, very sharp. A class act

So I guess NC pushed to far and the owner pushed back. To be fair saints is bigger than any one man NC has done a lot for the club, no doubt, but we will survive him leaving (and the same goes for the manager and players) the owners are the important thing here after all it's their money (not NCs) that got us here and even if the do sell us we must be an attractive club to buy (not to mention worth a bit which should keep the potless types away).

Jesus. Back to the old ways, just like that. Erase his impact on the club.

F**king mental.

Somebody please tell me this is just one of my weirdest dreams and shake me out of this Nightmare, when I wake up I'll be back to listening to how refreshing our pressing style of play is and what an example our academy is.....please??

Cue the backstabbing and vitriol of Cortese when 24 hours ago he was the unofficial patron saint of Southampton.

As long as we have a team we have a love, he was not a football man, he was and is a numbers man. It was his baby and he gave it back, that proves how much he thought of us.

Yep. Nothing short of disastrous imo.

He had more of a feel for the football than Lowe, more business acumen that Lowe, and wasnt such an attention-seeking.

Look round the PL at the sort of trouble we could be in, in a few short weeks...
