Cortese to go?

Bewildered

Recommended Posts

When I left for work this was on page 1 I have now come home to a 21 page. runaway Train.

For those of us who don't fancy ploughing through 1030 posts at the time of writing ( which will no doubt have the usual Troll bun fight over a few pages in the middle) Is there any chance of a Saints News summary of today's events for those of us just back in the house.

Thank you in Advance.

He will resign if NC does.

We'll see about that, won't we. Being as he has nowhere else to go immediately, I'd be surprised/amazed if he left straight away. He has nothing at all to gain from that; it would be cutting his nose off to spite his face, and I get the feeling he's a bit smarter than that. He may engineer a departure over the short to medium term but he'd be a fool to just walk out, and he probably knows that.

Saint Charlie seems hell bent on seeing the absolute worst possible outcome in every rumour that has been posted today (notwithstanding the fact that most of them have been entirely discredited).

I just think people bury their heads in the sand and forget what a top job he has done. We could now be sold to anyone and what's been superbly crafted over the last 5 years will be gone. It's such a shame.

He has already said he would though, would be pretty hard to explain doing anything other than walking.

Nobody is denying that, but at this stage NC hasn't actually left (or at least it hasn't been confirmed by SFC). I also think that jumping to the conclusion that MP and several of our top players will now leave is just assuming that the worst possible scenario will play out. Who knows what is going on behind the scenes? I don't think anyone really does, least of all the journos who are making the front page with this stuff.

Just thinking back a moment. Some time ago (through the blur of OSH) there were stories that NC was on a big bonus or percentage IF/WHEN the Liebherrs sold the club.

Just wondering to myself why the hell he would "quit" over the fact that they family wanted to sell and leave 4, 6 or 10 million on the table.

The only logic in this scenario would be that the sake has gone through and NC is not wanted by the new owners...

( No idea if my memory is correct on the bonus of course)

So we'll wake up tomorrow with no chairman, manager, coaches and the first team will walk out. We play the u16s and get relegated, go into liquidation, reform in the conference for derbies v the skates next season? Woo.

do you an issue reading? not what they said!

Do you have a learning difficulty in writing a full coherent and complete sentence ? (or have "an issue" with it to use your term ?). [only joking by the way]

Back on subject ,at about 6.20pm the BBC football site had "breaking news" that Cortese had left, this has however now been modified to "set to leave".

He has already said he would though, would be pretty hard to explain doing anything other than walking.

Unless I've not seen the full quotes, he didn't *quite* go that far. The quote I saw was: ""Nicola Cortese has basically been the reality at Southampton for the past four years.

"Of course, the people that are in the club, that are part of the club, that are behind the scenes in the club were a little bit worried about what has been said.

"Me on a personal sense, I would not understand a Southampton without Nicola being here.

"When I first arrived here, nobody knew who Mauricio Pochettino was. Nicola put his faith in me and knew me from way, way back.

"When I got to know his project, we were basically on the same wavelength as to what we wanted for Southampton in the future.

"Basically, my future in Southampton has to be with Nicola."

Now, clearly that's very close to an ultimatum but technically not quite! I'm clearly clutching at straws here.....

"I was ready to go but NC asked me to complete the project"

"I couldn't leave the team at this time of its development"

"If anyone other than XX had come in as CEO I would have gone"

He's almost certainly gone. Be optimistic if you like but I can't see much good to come from all this in the short to medium term anyway.

People forget about the structure of the club from top to bottom and how important it has been to our recent success.

Until its confirmed by the club I'll take my chances. I remember it getting pretty close last summer and then that all turned out fine.

As I say, nobody has any idea what is going on behind the scenes, so no use guessing. Feel free to see the worst possible outcome ahead of time though, it will only cause you stress.

So, having been up to my ears in work today, and cannot be bothered to read 1000 posts on this, can anyone give me a brief synopsis of wtf is going on

Cortese is resigning, katharina liebherr is taking over as chairman in order to likely sanction a quick sale of the football club. But it's a pretty damn fine club now, with some huge foundations put in place.

I think that's a fair grasp on all the stories today!

I'm not stressed, there are more important things in life.

What happened last time came nowhere near to what is being reported now. Cortese is clearly going/gone and the fallout from that remains to be seen but I can't see how we can be better off for it.

What was stressful was after forest away when we thought we could be playing our last game. This is nothing.

Awesome reporting there from the Mail

Better than expected: Southampton currently sit in nine points after a terrific first half of the season

Who are these utter helmets at the training ground asking Pochettino whether he's still the manager?

1. Yes he is

2. They'll have been told to say nothing

3. They probably know no more than we do in reality

4. FFS

Spot on. No point panicking yet, what happens happens, everything else is just speculation.
