John Boy Saint Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 When I left for work this was on page 1 I have now come home to a 21 page. runaway Train. For those of us who don't fancy ploughing through 1030 posts at the time of writing ( which will no doubt have the usual Troll bun fight over a few pages in the middle) Is there any chance of a Saints News summary of today's events for those of us just back in the house. Thank you in Advance. JBS
The Kraken Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 He will resign if NC does. We'll see about that, won't we. Being as he has nowhere else to go immediately, I'd be surprised/amazed if he left straight away. He has nothing at all to gain from that; it would be cutting his nose off to spite his face, and I get the feeling he's a bit smarter than that. He may engineer a departure over the short to medium term but he'd be a fool to just walk out, and he probably knows that.
Saint Charlie Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 Saint Charlie seems hell bent on seeing the absolute worst possible outcome in every rumour that has been posted today (notwithstanding the fact that most of them have been entirely discredited). I just think people bury their heads in the sand and forget what a top job he has done. We could now be sold to anyone and what's been superbly crafted over the last 5 years will be gone. It's such a shame.

pap Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 A few months of the mid-table stability and investment that I spent god knows how many years wanting, and now normal service is resumed. Shut up. We love it.

We could now be sold to anyone and what's been superbly crafted over the last 5 years will be gone. It's such a shame. Nobody is denying that, but at this stage NC hasn't actually left (or at least it hasn't been confirmed by SFC). I also think that jumping to the conclusion that MP and several of our top players will now leave is just assuming that the worst possible scenario will play out. Who knows what is going on behind the scenes? I don't think anyone really does, least of all the journos who are making the front page with this stuff. dubai_phil Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 Just thinking back a moment. Some time ago (through the blur of OSH) there were stories that NC was on a big bonus or percentage IF/WHEN the Liebherrs sold the club. Just wondering to myself why the hell he would "quit" over the fact that they family wanted to sell and leave 4, 6 or 10 million on the table. The only logic in this scenario would be that the sake has gone through and NC is not wanted by the new owners... ( No idea if my memory is correct on the bonus of course)

DG Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 So we'll wake up tomorrow with no chairman, manager, coaches and the first team will walk out. We play the u16s and get relegated, go into liquidation, reform in the conference for derbies v the skates next season? Woo.
Badger Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 do you an issue reading? not what they said! Do you have a learning difficulty in writing a full coherent and complete sentence ? (or have "an issue" with it to use your term ?). [only joking by the way] Back on subject ,at about 6.20pm the BBC football site had "breaking news" that Cortese had left, this has however now been modified to "set to leave". Restark19 Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 IF Cortese has gone then I wouldn't be surprised to see him attempt to buy the club as has already been mentioned on here. The Liebherrs clearly want to sell, Cortese has apparantly got someone lined up anyway.

The Kraken Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 He has already said he would though, would be pretty hard to explain doing anything other than walking. Unless I've not seen the full quotes, he didn't *quite* go that far. The quote I saw was: ""Nicola Cortese has basically been the reality at Southampton for the past four years. "Of course, the people that are in the club, that are part of the club, that are behind the scenes in the club were a little bit worried about what has been said. "Me on a personal sense, I would not understand a Southampton without Nicola being here. "When I first arrived here, nobody knew who Mauricio Pochettino was. Nicola put his faith in me and knew me from way, way back. "When I got to know his project, we were basically on the same wavelength as to what we wanted for Southampton in the future. "Basically, my future in Southampton has to be with Nicola." Now, clearly that's very close to an ultimatum but technically not quite! I'm clearly clutching at straws here..... pap Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 And on another note, how does MLG feel about Cortese loving the club and never wanting to leave in Football Manager? That's twice now
Faz Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 He has already said he would though, would be pretty hard to explain doing anything other than walking. Crouchie Crouchie Posted 15 January, 2014 Share Posted 15 January, 2014 I don't think that Cortese leaving is the main issue - it' the repercussions his leaving will have on the club - manager, players, ambitions, stability all potentially at risk now because of this.
