Cortese to go?

Bewildered

Recommended Posts

Sky reporter said Katharina wants to sell and that she and Cortese had clashed in the summer over the sale of Belgian winger Steve de Ridder to FC Utrecht.

Seems an odd one, that.

Very odd as we did not sell De Ridder, the club agreed to cancel his contract so he could move to Utrecht.

Southampton chairman about to quit, and that means Pochettino is going too. Don't they care about the fans? Join me and @mattholland8 from 4

@talkSPORTDrive why would anyone care about Southampton fans?

@talkSPORTDrive remember it's Southampton so no one with brain cells actually cares

Tip for you, don't follow Adrian Durham.

She's probably just fed up at having to deal with Cortese throwing his toys out of the pram every time he doesn't get his own way. That and some financial decisions she's not comfortable with. Can't say I blame her, especially as she has no interest in football.

+6841654.

He's a complete cock who loves the sound of his own voice and spouts unimaginable bullocks the whole time, just so that he can be controversial.

He was one of the few media 'pundits' to openly accuse Pompey of cheating over the last few years so he's not all bad :)

Why doesn't she just sell the club to NC and any backers he has then and walk away

My take on the situation:

Katharina wants out, Cortese (+ A.N Others) wants in.

Katharina wants £Xm for the club. Cortese is only willing to pay £Ym. If Cortese leaves then the club is destabilised and more difficult to sell and is therefore only worth £Zm on the open market. Katharina then has a choice between a guaranteed £Ym or a speculative £Zm.

Cortese adds a lot of value to the club and he knows it.

Maybe Lee's departure has sparked all this?

I posted yesterday that Lee has cost us between £430,000 - £500,000 per game. Perhaps KL has simply had enough of money being wasted?

If that is the case wouldn't you, if it was your business then you would be firing for the person responsible for this and want to rectify this as soon as possible.

Sky have contradicted their story a lot today so probs not much in it, but highlights the relationship breakdown.

Could have got 300k for SDR easily so maybe KL thought it a poor decision from NC

I just can't see that being an issue when we spent 5M on Mayuka :)

personally would be very surprised if Cortese was to go as there is no way his project is finished and he is not the type of man to leave at the halfway stage......however without knowing if there really is something going on with the the Liebber family its difficult to guage.

If the Liebbers are making demands that do not sit comfortably with Cortese or are not what Cortese believes were Markus wishes then in these circumstances i could see him leaving because he is driven and passionate.

Personally i think it would be a disaster for SFC and i could see every bit of good that has been achieved in the last few years being undone extremely quickly!

Don't post much but been glued to this all day, my initial thoughts we oh **** here we go again, having thought about it, seen the reports etc I have a feeling that the club will make an announcement to this effect, KL wants out, NC wants control and has said in the past he has a "sugar daddy" to step in should this happen.

Fingers crossed this is the case and all is ok on and off the field come our game on Saturday, last thing we need is for it to start effecting our results with some very winnable fixtures coming up.

sounds plausible

Funny, we all hated him when he sacked Nigel. Now he seems to be indispensable.

She obviously knows nothing about football, this was her fathers pet project, so she ought to take the money and walk away having no doubt made a lot of money. What value can she be adding trying to tell NC how to financially manage the club? Unless she is being badly advised

Or does she and her family in any way need the money from the assets of the club? Could she see us as a cash cow? (Remember the adage of how you make a small fortune from footballl...?)

he wasn't at the last game because he was on his annual skiing vacation.

For all those of you spouting off at KL.....remember, none of the investments is Cortese's own money: it is all the Liebherrs. So why wouldn't they want an input on how the investments are made?

Equally, am I the only one that finds it slightly nauseating that Cortese is obviously priming the press for his own ends yet never keeps fans in the loop? Working under intolerable conditions, etc.......you couldn't make it up.

Fed up with the whole thing and would rather we could all concentrate on the excellent season (relatively) we are having.

Cortese has just returned from a 3 week skiing holiday.

In any business it's highly unusual for the owner/owners not to be represented on the board and leave one person solely in charge. Even less a free hand to spend millions at a whim. Even Markus planned to bring in a Director of Football to run the club.

What will make people cringe is, at the drop of a hat Katharina could turn to the man most knowledgeable in running the club after Cortese, with the same attitude to doing business. He was dangerous enough on a shoestring, he'd be lethal with money. It would take nothing to envision the 3rd coming of Rupert Lowe. :)
