Cortese to go?

Bewildered

Recommended Posts

I have met her, Markus' widow and some of the family on a number of occasions and they really do want anonymity.

Is it your hunch that Katharina is a somewhat reluctant owner of a football club or is it something she is quite comfortable with? Cheers

Fun and games again.

Seriously, if anyone is worried - just have faith in our league position, our players, our training facilities, our accademy and our fans. It'll all end well.

PS. I have to laugh when I see the press say things like "the club have declined to comment". Lol, who do they think provide the info for the stories that are breaking? As I say, all good fun and games.

Funny, I thought exactly the same.

I must commend NC for his commitment but all this threatening to leave stuff if he does not get his own way is very childish and the second time he has done this.

Dont get me wrong, I back him, but are we going to see this tactic again and again if he does leave and do we all agree with it?

...

Oh well.. personally, dont think we are in any position to comment really given all anyone is able to do is speculate. Just looking at things - It was very interesting to note Cortese voted against the Prem policy change preventing sugar daddy type investment last year... which for me was more telling than anything else as it implies he is keen to to ensure the door remains open for such investment in future. I dont believe the Liebherrs want to retain ownership indefinitely - and maybe there was an agreement to sell to NC and his consortium at a price - only for our value to have gone up with the relatively rapid success and importantly the increase in value of several of the player assets - that would be a reasonable guess - but a guess is all it is.

Find it quite sad that the likes of Glasgow still cant resist the WUM and **** take over something that could have quite serious consequences for the club - strikes me as the kind of arsehole who would get his **** out at a funeral...

we have to wait and see - Cortese wants to us progress - but we cant without authorization or cash investment - without that control and money NC has his hands tied... so can understand his frustration as there is no point in staying if he cant deliver. How this pans out, we shall see.

Anyone else think Cortese believes in this project too much just to walk away like this? There's obviously some disagreement, a power struggle, but I'd be surprised if he just washed his hands of the whole thing and moved on. Would be a great shame if he did.

I don't think he wants to leave so on that basis it is just disappointing that he feels that to get whatever he wants he has to play this out in the public. Given Pochettino's future seems to go with Cortese's, I've pretty much written off this weekends game as there is no way the coaching staff and players won't be negatively impacted.

That's my hope too. He's done an awful lot to get us to this league position, as well as developing the exciting new traing ground, and it seems a real shame for him to leave now. Let's hope he's just maneuvering for great power and that it pays off. Would be a very bad blow to the club if he walked.

Totally agree, he's come too far and put too much into it to walk away over something small.

@paulbelvers: Rather than the Liebherr family wanting to sell #saintsfc I'm told they actually want more involvement. Cortese sees that as interference.

That'd be an interesting twist. He always said that Markus had no involvement whatsoever, so the family trying to get more involved might seem like a bit of an affront to Cortese.

If that is the case, then NC is I am afraid in the wrong. While he may or may not be able to do a better job, that is irrelevant as he is not the owner. I am sure that the involvement isn't like Tan appointing his son's mate from the pub as chief scout.

I can see why Cortese would be put out, but quite frankly this is the better of the two theories sell or more involvement. It will be a lot easier to find a compatant CEO to work within the Liebherr guidelines than it will be to find a new owner that doesn't **** everything up.

Not on the wind up at all, noe agenda either, never liked Cortese and his vision as its obvious we are too small to carry that through without

a) Huge investment

b) Cortese leaving if we are perceived to have been successful as a stepping stone.

I want someone at the club saying what we can and can not do, Cortese is leaving and he is not even giving his own dreams a chance of blossoming, Champions League football and all that seems what it was, a lie.

Yeah, I hate having people at the club that are ambitious and who want to shake things up a bit.

We should just bow down to the big boys, know our place, and not even try to go any higher.

We should simply acknowledge what an honour it is to be in the same league as them.

Sky now saying KL wants to sell hence disagreement.

Just shows, nobody knows....yet.

"If there's any lack of commitment [from the family] we have a plan B. I know people with money who would have the same attitude as Markus who would join us on this."

We shall see how true that quote from Cortese is if they do want to sell...

Corteses previous talk of a plan B, his interviews with Jim White, gushing articles by the BBC guy and sworn loyalty by all players when signing contracts have all been leading up to this dramatic conclusion it appears.

The PR tactics have given him some leverage but the money talks and he's just an employee of KL at the end of the day.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if KL wants to sell

On the face of it, it would seem the best time to do so as it would pretty much guarantee a profit. However, some journalists I follow on Twitter are suggesting that this isn't the case, that in fact KL wants a bit more control of her family's investment.

Not an entirely unreasonable request, it's their money after all, but can also see why Cortese would be ****ed off, having had little to no interference in the preceding five years.

Do any of the journalists know what level of "involvement" we're talking about here?
