Cortese to go?

Bewildered

Can you name any other examples of a football club chairman handing in his resignation and causing players at the club to request a transfer?

Not just a normal facepalm Steve, but a triple McInnes! :mcinnes::mcinnes::mcinnes:

In answer to your question (transfer requests) then no, however, I am thinking further down the road than next week, do not forget that NC has sold the "southampton way" to everyone concerned at the club, in that they are building for the future, not just this season, hence keeping the young quality players, if that is no longer there then why stay.

They keep headlining it on Sky but saying nothing at all about it. Almost as if they don't actually know anything.

Me thinks this was another leak in the tug of war between Cortese and the Liebherrs. Who leaked it? We'll probably never know. But I never bet against Cortese anymore.

There appears to be several posters on this forum:mcinnes:

Showing clear signs of female orgasms:p............not that I have witnessed same for many a year.:D

Why do they show clear desire for our great football club to fail at every turn...:)

Pull yourselves together....you naughty boyz:(

PS. Hope it all gets sorted out very quickly.

Lol. They really have done a number on you! Players are here for a number of reasons but I highly doubt their biggest priority is the Southampton way. Where do they find these people from? It's like cartoon characters writing on a forum.

Surely the best option for all if the breakdown is irretrievable and Katherine Liebherr doesn't want Saints is for NC and MP to remain in place and NC to managed the sale of Southampton for the best price possible.

The Liebherr estate would walk away with over£100mill profit and the new owners would inherit a stable and well managed club.

Money is usually the deciding factor in these matters and the Liebherrs would surely get a much better price with Chair and manager in place and the possibility of stability.

If both walked to an Italian club-probably together then the Liebherrs would be faced with a management problem and almost certainly a worse price.

What is offensive about the word twonk? You will be close to a ban because everything you post is a wind up and it's why you have been banned from other forums.

Not on the wind up at all, noe agenda either, never liked Cortese and his vision as its obvious we are too small to carry that through without

a) Huge investment

b) Cortese leaving if we are perceived to have been successful as a stepping stone.

I want someone at the club saying what we can and can not do, Cortese is leaving and he is not even giving his own dreams a chance of blossoming, Champions League football and all that seems what it was, a lie.

Nothing new and expected. I fully expect poch to follow also.

I am glad I watched Saints in the golden years of 70s/80s/90s as now there is no loyalty or respect for fans or the club by Directors (or Dictators) and Managers.

The first thing in football is profit and control, then player selction (often not by the head coach) then fans.

At least we are not changing our name to Saints Tigers or Saints Halos etc then having blue shirts. Its not all bad Portsmouth FC have a great chance of going out the leaque so lets focus on that!!!

Can we try and ignore the trolls on this one so it's easy to keep track of the actual news updates? Mods, maybe another thread for the trolls to out troll each other?

Hoping Cortese isn't about to leave but something is clearly wrong and needs sorting out as it nearly happened last summer. I find it a little odd, as he seems so ambitious and getting to the Premier League was always just an initial phase of the plan. It's brilliant, but others have done it. Would he give up on the ambitions? If he does, then fair enough I'll appreciate what he's done for the club. Everyone leaves at some stage. Just frustrating it probably means losing MP as well and a lot of turmoil.

Mainly need to ensure whoever comes in has the same philosophy about moving the club forward, keeps a lot of people in their jobs etc. But that's mainly down to luck.

He may give up on his ambitions as he knows that the money isn't there for us to go any further. We are almost the ideal club right now, great academy, good stadium, barely any if any debt, good first team, positive vibes in the club, driven chairman, owner with money,

But if the money stops, then this can only get us so far. Cortese tells Katherina that he wants more money and gives her his plans for the next year or two. (wants to spend another £50m this summer to push us to Champions League fight.) Katherina says no chance, i'm not interested and not putting any more money in.

How often has Champions League and even winning the premier league mentioned when we were in the lower leagues? Yes it was a tad embarrassing but it's something that Cortese has always said he wants to achieve.

Who could forget when Adkins said 'this club will compete at the top of the premiership in the next few years'.

Also mentioned was the war chest that ML left us...could this have run out?

SMS pervaded by the smell of stale egg as NC leaves the building & all the SMS staff simultaneously unclench buttocks to release 4 years of suppressed wind into the atmosphere. No-one light a match yo!

Live at Staplewood on SSN

Amy Lewis says that a source has also told them the resignation has been REJECTED

Thanks for the update Dan, looks like it's brinkmanship time again. I think it will get resolved but in the medium term the sale of the club was probably inevitable at some stage. Whether that's to a consortium containing Cortese, we'll have to see. Do wish NC had waited until we were over the 40 points mark before this kicked off though. It's a far more attractive proposition than it was last time this forum had a major takeover thread. Does make getting a result at Sunderland on Saturday all the more important now though.

I think you are wrong; players go to and stay at clubs for three reasons; the money is right, the club is showing signs of progression and it suits them personally. Call it the Southampton Way or manager selling the dream or whatever but a club like ours has to communicate our future ambitions; so if the money offered is the same and the either club suits, the player will choose the club with the best prospects. Where would you go if Fulham, Cardiff and Southampton were all offering the same wages.

By the way I don't think losing NC is the hole in the hull that some insist it is.

Yes, I know what you mean .......... mind you, Captain Smith didn't think that slight glancing bump was serious at first.

Personally, I think this is being blown out of proportion slightly on all sides. Cortese has been great for us and has propelled us on a Journey we could have all wished for, however, he has had substitutional money to make that happen. It's naive to think that MP, Shaw, Osvaldo, Gaston, Lallana etc are here because of NC. They're here because we've been able to pay them a decent amount of $$$. As cold as that sounds, it's the truth in this day and age.

The only doubt that NC leaving would bring upon us would be the drive and finance to keep those players, but if a financial backer is found who is willing to take this club on...then I see no reason why this journey ends here.

It looks to me as if we've emptied the pot of cash for improvements and transfers, so we're going back to the family for more and more commitments. They're within their right to question it, as at the end of the day this is their fathers investment - not theirs. And I don't think they've ever been massively committed with the same drive as NC.

I think we'll be sold in the not-too-distant future, so get ready for next season being a bit of a roller-coaster. However, what's been put in place here over the last 5 years is too strong to be taken apart by 1 person leaving. He will leave a legacy whatever happens, and it's up to someone else to move that on.

Which 15 million pound players have fulham and cardiff bought recently? Ramirez came here for the money, he said so himself...

I agree totally with the first part of your quote but not the second

Pompey were screwed by greedy foreign investors which could happen to any club I for one hope they survive I know a few of their fans and they deserve better

Saints couldnt stop and wont stop any players leaving as they cant match any wages like £100,000K a week and cant match the offering of European footbal. Unless we have loads of money which we dont, we operate on gate and TV money only (no big investor now) or unless we are in top 6 for Europe. I cant recall Saints keeping anyone who wanted to leave, I bet even Punch probally wanted to stay...and the head groundsman left too!
