View From The Top Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Plenty would have seen the scout list doing the rounds on twitter for the Benfica / Porto game that has Saints listed. So, who were we watching?
dubai_phil Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Quick, check our Where in the World thread. We must have some spies over there. Also wasn't Glasgow voted in charge of watching all Portugese games some months ago? I remember Tokes got the J-League and Bearsy was in charge of watching all US Female College Soccer.

Perhaps we were watching the ref, just to see if we can import him to replace Clattenburg next time he's allocated to one of our defeats..sorry, matches
Saint Charlie Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 We watch absolutely stacks of games....doesn't mean anything major.
Dazza82 Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Otamendi and Matic please Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Saint Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnUn5nDzpJs Fernando Reges would be nice.
Rebel Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Weren't we linked with Rodrigo - the Spanish Brazilian forward - the one who was on loan at Bolton - lazy summer
SuperMikey Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Yes please Can't think of a better partner for Lovren - left footed, strong, quick, dominant aerially and on the ground and young. Speaks French too, so Dejan can help bed him in.
Delboy Dave Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 I can always dream... Not if we sell Shaw! #ourdreamisreal

Bourno Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 probably someone on a jolly getting free hospitality
melmacian_saint Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 Alex Sandro and Mangala are a great shout. Otamendi is a nutter so no. From the Benfica side their keeper hasn't conceded in 5 games, and they signed him at 17 years of age when he was already a starter for one of the big teams in Slovenia. National team starter now (his substitute also plays in Portugal funnily enough) and had a great last season on loan too. Rodrigo is hit-and-miss, Garay is a top CB but VERY prone to injury.

Also off to Zenit isn't he (Garay)?

Mangala was awful anyway, another one of these French kids pumped up to stardom on one good game from time to time but he really isn't very good for the other 90% of the time. They develop very young because they're usually 5 times the size of all of the other kids and then they burn out very early as well. Top European League reserve teams are littered with next Zidanes, Vieras and Desaillys.

Maybe so before, but I follow the Portuguese league regularly and he's been pretty good every time I've seen him. Though I agree that he hasn't really established himself as an undisputed starter, which might be a bit disappointing considering the other CB (Maicon) is really poor.
Matthew Le Tissier Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 Think we have our eyes on this fella. And have been to watch him. £5mill to buy Marcos Rojo who can also play centre half
Giordano Posted 14 January, 2014 Posted 14 January, 2014 A centre back who is also a left back who is only 23 and is an Argentine international so clearly can play a bit with the ball and is currently with Sporting in Portugal so probably not on mega money but could be up for a big EPL payola time under an Argentine Coach who would be able to talk him through how-it-is at SMS. Yup. Fits and ticks every box perfectly .
OLDER BUT WISER Posted 26 January, 2014 Posted 26 January, 2014 Just thought I would add Eric Dier at Sporting to the possibles

Yup. Fits and ticks every box perfectly . Marcos Rojo. Not that good, a bit of a mentalist in terms of aggression and under no circumstance should play at CB in the Premier League. LB maybe but he does not have the pace or the discipline.
