BG_Saint Posted 11 January, 2014 Share Posted 11 January, 2014 Wired Magazine has a long interesting analysis on the rise of use of the Prozone software and data analytics in general in football. http://www.wired.co.uk/magazine/archive/2014/01/features/the-winning-formula Turns out Saints were one of the 'early adopters' back in the early 2000's. Harry Redknapp didn't like it much though (what a surprise).
The9 Posted 11 January, 2014 Share Posted 11 January, 2014 Fascinating stuff, both from the perspective of Saints and generally. Allardyce's use of POMOs is pretty widely known and has been for around 10 years, but it's still a very rigid implementation of a system in a dynamically changing game, which probably explains why it's not as successful as it used to be - as well as everyone else using the data now so you're running just to stand still. Was interesting to see the stuff about Redknapp and Woodward too. That Luton match was our first away match of our first game outside the Prem in 27 years (and we lost 3-2 to a club which has now been non-League for 5 years). I wonder which is the Prem club that doesn't use Prozone?
Joey-deacons-left-nut Posted 11 January, 2014 Share Posted 11 January, 2014 Everyone has always banged on about big fat Sam and the software, but i'd always struggled to see where he was using it after witnessing some of his turgid teams performances, reading that its quite interesting to see that's why he sets teams out how he does... BG_Saint Posted 11 January, 2014 Author Share Posted 11 January, 2014 I wonder which is the Prem club that doesn't use Prozone? I'd go with Cardiff - I'm sure Tan has some kind of Malaysian "vodoo" (I know it's ignorant) magic that works better...
