Saint_Tony Posted 10 January, 2014 Share Posted 10 January, 2014 Why are people getting all angry at anyone suggesting we need better players to come in this window? Is that not the logical thing to do to improve our league position?
whelk Posted 10 January, 2014 Share Posted 10 January, 2014 Some people are very sanctimonious. IMO they are ofdten the ones ruining the site by stopping friendly and lively debate. Note, Turkish makes a point but avoids personal insults. Same applies to Alpine. I hadn't noticed tbh although if someone calls me pal I would take that as an insult. Know what I mean pal
speed demon Posted 10 January, 2014 Share Posted 10 January, 2014 I actually think this place is far better for having Turkish posting. Don't agree with him always and enjoys antagonising but actually speaks sense....mostly I agree.

sandwichsaint Posted 10 January, 2014 Share Posted 10 January, 2014 What he should have said: We have no immediate plans to buy any specific players but like most clubs we are always interested in improving our squad, and if the right players become available and if they fit within our budget and they can add-to and improve our current squad, we would obviously be interested. Sub-text, we don't have to buy anybody in this window, we won't pay silly-money January prices, we do have funds available for good players that fit within our existing budgets. There seems to be an attitude that everything you, Barry or alpine says, regardless of how sensible it is, is "trolling".
Dalek2003 Posted 10 January, 2014 Share Posted 10 January, 2014 Agree with you Dalek. There seems to be an attitude that everything you, Barry or alpine says, regardless of how sensible it is, is "trolling". Some people kept their feet firmly on the ground, even when we were 3rd in the table, with reminders that there was a long way to go and things could change. Also, that our league status at this age could not be taken fro granted. That, apparently, was trolling. Well, reading through the contributions just recently there are quite a few more trolls now than then, and if we don't win against WBA, there could be an army of trolls on this site. Turkish Posted 10 January, 2014 Share Posted 10 January, 2014 (edited) The all-time mboard classic remains Adkins prematch interview for the Swansea game where he said he was going to do things differently. The statement was seized upon as vindicating months and months of horse**** on here that Clotese (lols) was picking the team and setting the formation. Adkins was going to go out in a blaze of glory to Sinatra's "My Way", the mboard roared. Turns out what Adkins really meant was that he was taking the team to the country for a bit of clay pigeon shooting and bingo. Memories. You're doing very well at taking up the role dull drums performed with such aplomb. That of offering little to nothing yourself, just sarky comments here and there and trying to take the p*ss out of others opinions. Well done you, I bet your little specs are steaming up wit excitement. Edited 10 January, 2014 by Turkish
saint si Posted 10 January, 2014 Share Posted 10 January, 2014 Things change. Players improve Spurs flop Gareth could Bale out in January as Birmingham boss Alex McLeish eyes £3m defender http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1221871/Spurs-flop-Gareth-Bale-January-Birmingham-boss-Alex-McLeish-eyes-3m-defender.html The comments on that article are amazing. I mean I still think we'll hit a revival and finish a comfortable 8th but anyone who thought we would finish in the top 6 this season was being unrealistic. Oh sorry. david in sweden Posted 10 January, 2014 Share Posted 10 January, 2014 Poch: - "...at the moment we have no business planned." - source The Mail Worrying indeed. Hopefully it's a bit of a smokescreen this is the key phrase. I'll bet by the end of the month we'll have " acquired " 2-3 new names.

whelk Posted 11 January, 2014 Share Posted 11 January, 2014 True, good example. Ozil, Cazorla, Padolski, Giroud, Gerveniho, Arteta, Oxlainde-Chamberlain and Per Mertesacker most definitely didn't sign for them in the last 3 seasons for large to massive fees. He trousered the money and tried getting more out Henry Lansbury. My point wasnt taht buying player doesnt work- of course it does. It is more about trusting the manager. why get an ok CB in Jan when get long-term improveemnt in summer. May or may not be right but just thinking cheque book our in January is not the solution

May or may not be right but just thinking cheque book our in January is not the solution At certain points yes I agree, personally I think that it is imperetive that we get at least a keeper as the two stand ins are woeful, also and in form yoshi is good enough but for some reason jos is prefered which is v worrying. So in that case perhaps loan in a CB to cover and look at permanent options come summer.
