Internet porn was invented for people like that. Careers are hard to build net porn is easy to find............

Yeah but regular sex with a real girl is better than cracking one off in front of the tv when the bird on the one show comes on!

Not a long time compared with what? It seems a long time to me when staying in the companies shyte guesthouse with no broadband & no English tv. Don't know people here, everyone in the office is talking German & I just wanna be back in the uk. Seems a long time to me at the moment!

Like said above, its only 4 months. Go out to a local bar after work and speak to the locals, Germans speak good English and friendly people. I have worked and studied abroad and have to say they were the best times, and also gained some good life experience.

Where are you baised?

West Munich, on outskirts. You are of course right, it'll be what I make of it, I need to get out and do something rather than sitting about in my apartment.

But this is kind of the problem, I've done all this kind of stuff before in recent years, I'm starting to feel like I'm past the part of my life where I need to be having to make the most of situations and sticking at something as it's only a few months. I could stay and see it out, but equally I could bin it off, go home, find another similar job and survive on money I've saved if something doesn't come up quickly.

Seems to me you've got an open goal here spudders. If its going to work out with this chick, you'll be able to bring it up all the time . If she moans you're off to football again, remind her what you gave up for her. You moved home from a foregin country, what a sacrifice, should be well good for laying a guilt trip on her.

Well Spudders, I've coped with both your problems.

I had the chance of a job in Dubai in '93. It was a single contract no family but was for 18 months. I took it. No internet to speak of in those days and phone costs were extortionate. Still, I did it and worked at it and saw the family every 6 months. Eventually they moved here and stayed for 12 years before I finally had the courage to get Divorced (after the kids had grown up)

Yes it was tough BUT it ensured the whole family had a safe and secure grounding and did as many wild and funky things as I do. (Kids were 18 when we split), one of them is still here....

You simply need to do SOMETHING, join an expat club, take up skiing for the next 3 months, something to give you a focus and get away from the One Show Chick.

Walk out of a job? Yes I did, although not the same way you talk about. I hung around like a bad smell and raped them for everything they hadn't done in the past and all the promises they made. Much the better way mate, sets you up nicely & gives you time to find something better

About 15 years ago I effectively walked out of a job - handed my resi in and didn't work my notice. In hindsight, it wasn't a very clever thing to do and I should have left on better terms. You asked for consequences, well, in my case it lost me some credibility with ex colleagues, which at the time I didn't really think about. However, about 6 years ago I bumped into one of those ex colleagues at the races and there was a definite problem there. I thought the industry was much bigger than it really is. The older you get and the higher up the tree you go, the industry became a smaller place and you may come across people who categorise you in a negative way. Other than that though, there were no other recognisable consequences and for me, it didn't hinder any future progression (left the job for a much better role anyway - which was the reason for leaving so promptly). Good luck with your decision though spudders, although i'd be tempted to see out the 4 months - it will fly by.

The first X months anywhere new are hard.

My advice is stick at it rather than jacking it in. If after 4 months it's still crap, well you've done the stint and you'll know next time. In any industry news and colleagues move fast. Whenever we recruit we ask around for people that have worked in the same place. Reputations stick and if you become seen as someone who quits easy that can be hard to shake.

It sounds like your manager is trying to accommodate you so I'd look to see if there's any way to ride out the 4 months.

Well, really it's all about how long you've been ****ging for. If less than 3 months, your thoughts are clearly being driven by the requirement to absolutely, definitely **** all the time (which can't be that often given she has kids). If gt 3 months, then surely a bit of absence and abstinence will make the twice monthly rootfest an ever better experience. If more than 6 months, then jesus, it's a bonus as you might end up actually doing it when you visit rather than talk about wall coverings all frigging night!

I had a work mate who invited me to the pub one Friday lunchtime. We had a couple of pints and he swerved into the bookies, as was his wont, while I headed back. In the office, I found 'I QUIT' spelled out in Ladbrokes biros on his desk. Best resignation letter ever!

Spud - try hooking up with the Munich ex-pat community - srsly! They have a website and everything.

When I was in between significant others I banged a lot of birds with kids - that is they had children, the kids weren't part of the act, that would be just weird. I must have ****ged at least 3, maybe 4. Heady days. Anyway, my point being that the sex and that was good but I couldn't properly take on the responsibility of someone elses kid and it's not fair on the kid to have many "uncles" in their life. I admire those that can do that, I thought I could initially but had to be honest with myself, for the kid more than anything.

Good luck.

Thanks :)

I have no issue with her having kids. In an ideal world she wouldn't, but she does. In an ideal world she'd look like Holly Valance, but she doesn't!! This isn't some chick I've just met who I don't really know. We have 20 years of history on & off. I'm not considering moving back on some whim for a random unknown, this is someone I've liked for years that I've now totally fallen in love with and she feels the same about me. It's just taken us both a long time to get our act together!
