S-Clarke Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Defensive cover should and will be our priority.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Didn't he start off at us at a pretty junior level?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Didn't he start off at us at a pretty junior level? Yes we released him. Joined bournemouth in 2008
James Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Was at the game, he looked decent and absolutely roasted Jos for their second. Could be good for us but not for the money they would probably want.
bpsaint Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Good player, but if we were to get a new striker in I would rather we signed one who is a proven goal scorer at this level, and not someone who takes time to bed in ala J-Rod.
Viking Warrior Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Sky believe a numbers of oremiership clubs are watching him . Is he another Dennis wise / Philips who we let go because the coaches at the time didn't think they were good enough
pangy Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Was at the game, he looked decent and absolutely roasted Jos for their second. Could be good for us but not for the money they would probably want. Pretty sure most of us could give Jos a hard game if we were playing
tpbury Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Only posting on this because the thread wasn't started by a wnaker. We have had a seriously bloated squad in the past and now have a too lean one. So Ings might fit into a squad somewhere in between. But LB. GK, CB are still more important.
Bearsy Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Surprised to learn he's 3 years younger than Jay Rod.
Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 He was excellent today. He has that desire to try and win every ball, and is incredibly quick. Think he could certainly do a job for us. Burnley a good side.
Toomer Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 He and Vokes looked heavy to me. So did Lambert when he arrived.
doddisalegend Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Interview with him in today's match programme. I don't think he enjoyed playing second fiddle to Jrod and Austin last couple of seasons seems to be enjoying being first choice striker (with a good chance of PL football next season)so I don't think he'd move to be down the pecking order at saints. Come across as a big saints fan though. Surprised how many Hampshire boys were in the Burnley team seems like Eddie how took half of the South coast to Burnley when he moved there.
Dark Munster Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 ....ings. His last name has been chopped off. What was there before, and who did it?
derry Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Ings and Vokes need to be trimmed down. I'm sure that if they were here they would be a lot lighter, and sharper still.
LGTL Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Big Saints fan but we are past this "good in the Championship" stage.
positivepete Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Jordan Rhodes would be better Jordan Rhodes did not start against Man City today because his manager says he cannot play a lone striker role, he is not mobile enough. So no chance of him coming here unless you are looking for another player to bait. Back on topic, pleased to see Danny play today, used to see him play as a youngster, he was decent then but never thought he would make a pro at championship level. Hats off to him, he has worked hard and made the most of his chances. Hope is becomes an inspiration for other kids playing in the Tyro League.
lickierambert Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 He looked overweight as a few have pointed out, but very dangerous in the box. His hold up play was virtually non-existent as well-difficult to see him playing as a '1' in a 4-2-3-1.
raynesparksaint Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 Can't really criticise him for only being good in the championship.. when that's the only league he plays in? He did well for England U21's in the game I saw too. This doesn't mean he is the standard we want or need, but equally it doesn't mean he isn't either
sammysaint Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 If we can sign him cheap say 4.5 mill max and have him as 3rd choice striker then yes. However i would rather we signed a good pacey winger so we can use Jay Rod up top more, Lambo and Osvaldo on there day are better strikers for us then he would be.
the saint in winchester Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 I refer the group to the Match Thread, post #351, where I am seriously suggesting we make an approach for both Vokes and Ings. I see them as strikers 3 and 4, replacing the likes of Sharp, Barnard, Lee and Guly. Together they are very good, and both Saints fans.
Saint Garrett Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 Both Vokes and Ings were very good yesterday - I wasn't expecting them to cause us that many problems
Window Cleaner Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 Both Vokes and Ings were very good yesterday - I wasn't expecting them to cause us that many problems they probably wouldn't have caused any problem whatsoever to our usual back 4.

No chance of that, the only way to progress is to buy first team players, "improve your weakness", and our recent purchases suggest that is the way we operate now.
benjii Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 they probably wouldn't have caused any problem whatsoever to our usual back 4. Exactly. I thought Burnley would be better to be honest.
Turkish Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 I expect the people saying we should sign Danny Ings are the same ones demanding we sign Jack Butland and Craig Mackaill smith.
Katalinic Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 I expect the people saying we should sign Danny Ings are the same ones demanding we sign Jack Butland and Craig Mackaill smith. No, those two aren't saints fans so no point in signing them.
Matthew Le Tissier Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 Danny ings is good enough for sure. And he will easily be able to play in the premier league. If he's what we need is another question
DuncanRG Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 Not for me. He looks the type of player capable of stepping up to the Premier League, but it won't happen quickly mid season and if we're signing another 'project' I'd like someone better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
RobM Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 I would put him alongside Hooper and that calibre of player. He will clearly do a good job in the Premiership, but at the moment at least I don't see him doing it for a team pushing for top-6 finishes next season. Lower-to-Mid table Premiership would be a better match. As said in a previous thread on this subject, there is a reason the other teams pushing for top-6 aren't currently in for him.
Charlie Wayman Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 He was one dimensional yesterday, big slow and shoots at goal. Not what we want at all. None of Ricky's insight and deft control. Forget him we were right to get rid first time around.
david in sweden Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 not having seen the match yesterday....no stream available in Sweden.... What was people's rating of Ings and Vokes. Could either of them really DAJFU ?

Dan Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 Was in town last night with him as he used to play with one of my mates when he went to Hamble school. Was saying he would leave if Burnley don't get promoted but otherwise for now he's happy and wants to stay.

Was saying he would leave if Burnley don't get promoted but otherwise for now he's happy and wants to stay. I went to Hamble with him too. Used to drink with him at a pub in Netley too.

Saint_Tony Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 Difficult to judge when Ings and Vokes they were up against Hooiveld and Yoshida, who are both Championship level defenders.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 I was year above him at Netley junior school, he played in our year group for Hamble Harriers/Itchen Boys cos he was too good for his age group. Never remember him supporting anyone at that age although we would have only been 8/9/10 years old-ish. Vokes is definitely a Saints fan, I went to college with his cousin, who came across as a massive Bournemouth fan. Then when Vokes moved to Wolves, he became a massive Wolves fan, gave it the large one when they beat us.
eurosaint Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 He and Vokes looked heavy to me. I thought that too, in fact quite a few of their players looked similar especially the guy called Treacy ! Didn't seem to hinder their movement but it was noticeable ! (Maybe their kit was too tight:))
ottery st mary Posted 5 January, 2014 Posted 5 January, 2014 Hamble School produces quality. I went to Hamble School:D I am also a little overweight:rolleyes:

Oh ok, I get it. You want Lambert and Rodriguez to sit on the bench after all they have done for us. (facepalm)
