Match reaction: Saints 4 Burnley 3

Apart from the last two goals we conceded Kelvin played a blinder by the looks of the highlights. That save to prevent us going 3-2 down was a cracker.

Wish we'd attempt shots like the goals were scored today in the league, always seems like we're trying to pass it into the net and always try one pass too many. Can't remember the last time Lambert cracked a shot like that, or when Clyne even tried anything like that.

Our reserve CBs are nowhere near good enough. Kelvin looked tiny in goal and got beaten at his near post. Again. Far closer than it need have been. No real atmosphere, too many occasionals and no real 'edge' to the game. Still, a win's a win and you get no extra points for a thrashing.

Decent summary. Clyne's, Lambert's and Lallana's strikes on the highlights reel make the match look far more enjoyable than it was when taken as a whole. We certainly weren't putting in a performance that suggested Burnley were dead and buried by half time - difference being that they upped their game while we continued to look rather disinterested. Thank goodness we had the quality on the bench to turn the tide.

As mentioned elsewhere it was an odd game. For an FA Cup win featuring seven goals I came away feeling a bit hollow.

Pink ball something to do with being winter or is it to do with the sponsors . I notice the test match there was a lot of pink about including pink flashes on the Aussies shirts

Pink Test. Glen McGrath Foundation & Cricket Australia have raised some A10mil for Breast Cancer. Over 100 McGrath BC Community nurses now around Australia.

It is a cracking thing he has done (his wife had Breast Cancer, and it is strange he has not been "Knighted" for it.

Special mention to the referee too, did you notice him?

This was the guy that was in charge of the Saints-WBA game last season, sending 3 players off! I did wonder what had happened to him!

He had no reason not to send 3 players off last season, it was a bad tempered affair and none of the 3 can possibly have had any sentiment of injustice for their sendings off.

Indeed, all 3 were deserved.

It was just that match was his first game as well in the EPL, and he doesn't appear to have figured much since.

Unless of course, he has kept himself "invisible" when in charge of games this season.

I am a firm believer in the statement that you can never name the best referees, as you don't ever notice them.

Thanks for all the posts from those who went to the game, some really differing views

but based from seeing the games.

Shame about the others on here with the usual agendas against Cortese,Pochettino and Ramirez.

Strange how the loon who posts the same crud against Cortese in one form or another is allowed to continue..

Lambert gets nowhere near that amount of time and space on the edge of the box in the prem.

Thats why peeps say he has no pace...what they mean is he's not agile enough to MAKE the space necessary to allow him to shoot from that distance.

Overall good game to watch, but seriously...Jos has such poor positional sense its frightening. Lambert has an issue of some sort - other than his goal he looked slow and disinterested.

expect a changed prem side to be better than that

not with the side they've put out, looks like their U21s or something, never heard of most of their players. They're in with a chance of a Wembley final and maybe even an Europa League place so they're not going to throw that away for the FA Cup.

Roy Keane summed it up well. Mistakes you have to accept with a team like that but the lack of effort was criminal

They didn't want to win so lack of effort is totally comprehensible. They have all the games they need coming up and a lot of injuries and suspensions...just let it go at that. Villa's boss also said it was a game they could do without and surprise surprise they got knocked out as well. It's up to each club to decide their priorities and pursue them as they see fit. It's just not our problem.
