Monk Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 We have two confirmed targets. Approved by transfer committee, no news if we have moved for them yet. Lallana, Shaw & Rodriguez are going nowhere.. For now.
S-Clarke Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Cheers for the info Monk. Do you have any clues as to if these are defenders, goal keepers....? The tone of your post re: our players, seems to suggest there has been interest registered...
Monk Posted 4 January, 2014 Author Posted 4 January, 2014 None for now. Inter sniffing around Gaston too.
Graffito Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 "Lallana, Shaw & Rodriguez are going nowhere.. For now." Anybody that is going somewhere? Eg Lambert.
Monk Posted 4 January, 2014 Author Posted 4 January, 2014 Apologies misread message; We have two targets but will only move for one out of the two.
Smirking_Saint Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Cheers monk. Appreciate info, will there be potential for our 'key' players to move if our 'vision' is not met ? Any ideas positions or potential value of targets ? I.e low value squad targets or higher value first team replacements ?
Saint Garrett Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Apologies misread message; We have two targets but will only move for one out of the two. Interesting. Would expect them to be defenders? Astori back on the radar?
Colinjb Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Thankyou Monk. Alongside TheVMan one of the true ITK's I trust. As apposed to a few attention seeking idiots who wish they had this kind of knowledge.
Suhari Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 (edited) Cheers Monk. Gut feel is they will be players that come straight in and improve the team; that's obviously the intention nowadays. So my guess is CB, with Fonte moving on if he comes in (there must be something in all those Besiktas rumours of a few weeks ago). EDIT - on second thoughts it must be an attacking player. But what the hell do I know? Edited 4 January, 2014 by Suhari
Dr Who? Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Hoping for a goal keeper and a world class striker! I think we will get a goalkeeper.
Olallana Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 If any CB would be going out I think it´s Yoshida. Wants game time before WC.
Mowgli Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Interesting. Would expect them to be defenders? Astori back on the radar? Was never on the radar.
SaintRobbie Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 ... although were we not linked with Wanyama's brother recently?
itchen_dan Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 If anything, one has to be Carlos Vela simply due to the persistent links and rumours.
Saint Charlie Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 The Vela link is from the Sun. Even the Spanish reports of it quote that as the source. No chance of him moving in Jan, surely.
Pastor Patrón Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Vela looks pants anyway, I watched a youtube of him last night, just another Ramirez.
Cabrone Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Banega\Astori back on the radar? If Gaston is out of favour we really could do with a quality AM.
K,Billy's supersound Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Gaston is not out of favour, expect him and osvaldo to be involed much more this year. the club hasn't given up on them even if some of our "fans" have.
Batman Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Gaston is not out of favour, expect him and osvaldo to be involed much more this year. the club hasn't given up on them even if some of our "fans" have. good news then
Matthew Le God Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Can billy sharp come back in jan or is the deal til may with no clauses? Could really do with him on the bench right now. He is already back, his loan was until the beginning of January. http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/billy-sharp-left-limbo-reading-6462208

This is what I was told, Club still see Gaston with a big future here - but I was told that we'd consider a loan deal so he'd get regular playing time to continue his development.
scotty Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Can billy sharp come back in jan or is the deal til may with no clauses? Could really do with him on the bench right now. I wouldn't hold your breath.
DuncanRG Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Can billy sharp come back in jan or is the deal til may with no clauses? Could really do with him on the bench right now. We'd sooner have Rodriguez and Gallagher, even Lee I suspect. Playing Sharp would feel like charity.
S-Clarke Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Can billy sharp come back in jan or is the deal til may with no clauses? Could really do with him on the bench right now. Billy is back with us now. The loan was only until 1st Jan. But I still wouldn't expect him to even make the bench.
Saint Charlie Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Sharp said he doesnt train with the first team at Saints. Be suprised if that changed. We will sell him this window.
Leicestersaint Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 We need a top-class keeper, a centre back and a fast striker!
Convict Colony Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 I suppose it will entirely depend on where Poch see's where the biggest problem is, either Centre Half or Central Attacking Midfielder, create goals or defend goals. Currently on the defend goals view but would not argue if we got a attacking midfielder, if we got a right back i would say poch needs to be certified
Smirking_Saint Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Can billy sharp come back in jan or is the deal til may with no clauses? Could really do with him on the bench right now. No just no
Pastor Patrón Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 Top teams are built around a solid defence, so I'd prioritise a keeper then a centre back.
Turkish Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 We have two confirmed targets. Approved by transfer committee, no news if we have moved for them yet. Lallana, Shaw & Rodriguez are going nowhere.. For now. The 'for now' bit on the end. Should we read anything into that?
david in sweden Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 We need a top-class keeper, a centre back and a fast striker! I agree, but it sounds like the same thing we've been saying since 2008....
Georgie Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 I guess whoever we targeted we will not be going for now? Although considering the rumours that Cortese had been leaving since October maybe this is still on? We really need another centre back now.
bjk Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 Looks like Lovrens broken his leg (only assuming) so a centre back is now crucial.Lescott is available, know his wages will be high but decent player if we could get him.
S-Clarke Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 I think we'll find out the owners real intentions this month, through the appointment of a chairman and potential movement in the transfer market. The last thing I want is for this season to peter out, but if we have to play with either Jos or Yoshida at the back for a prolonged period of time, then we won't do that well. I didn't think we'd make any moves, but you have to wonder if these injuries will really force our hand a bit. I also think we could do with a tad more fire power. Our 'out and out' strikers this year haven't done it for us for whatever reason. Jay's return has been terrific, but I don't see him as our out and out striker and he's still a little cold in terms of some of his finishing. At least Wanyama is back soon though, we really miss that strength in front of the back 4.

Going to West Ham (although he's holding out for better). They are paying the full £90k per week and then a 2 year deal at £70k.
Batman Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 but getting a new CB is crucial for what reason? we wont go down we wont get europe
shurlock Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 Will be an interesting test of KL's commitment to the club.
S-Clarke Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 but getting a new CB is crucial for what reason? we wont go down we wont get europe Would be a bit of a wimpy to end the season though, after such promise.

Batman Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 Would be a bit of a wimpy to end the season though, after such promise. it is going to be anyway. for me, goal achieved. establish ourselves in the top half and not get into a relegation fight at all sets up next season nicely should we really pay someone £90k a week to move up 1 more place?

Why would we be paying anyone 90k a week??? Don't think anyone has suggested that sort of outlay. but by that same logic, should we pay a little extra to ensure we don't drop 2 or 3 places and out of the top half? All very possible.

Georgie Posted 18 January, 2014 Posted 18 January, 2014 Would be a bit of a wimpy to end the season though, after such promise. It would. We need to at least aim for top half finish. I'm not sure we will achieve that if Lovren is out for a long time and we don't bring anyone else in.
