Huffton Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Anyone else think the game might be in danger today? Currently chucking it down and looking at the radar only going to get worse as the day progresses.
Kingsland Red Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I'm sure the sprinklers will be on at 2.50pm as usual !
Colinjb Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Sitting in Kings Worthy right now and it's utterly torrential. I remember conversations with the stewards before Birmingham home in the championship where a let off a few minutes before kick off allowed the game to occur.... This rain isn't going to stop. I'll be travelling in to the city as planned but a postponement wouldn't surprise me at all.
Batman Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 (edited) it has been horrific in the west country all night and earlier this morning however, the rain has all but stopped. still miserable outside which means it should ease up in soton in a few hours Edited 1 January, 2014 by Batman

Colinjb Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I'm in Kings Worthy, and it isn't much more than drizzle at the top of Lovedon Lane! Well. It's a bleeding water fall by the Volvo garage!!
Suhari Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Well. It's a bleeding water fall by the Volvo garage!! I'll bin my run then, since I go that way!
bpsaint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 It'll be fine thanks to the low tide at kickoff. Games have gone ahead in far worse weather at SMS.
beatlesaint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 It's horrendous here in Bournemouth........mind you it usually is and that's nothing to do with the weather :-) But it is pelting down....
whelk Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 it has been horrific in the west country all night and earlier this morning however, the rain has all but stopped. still miserable outside which means it should ease up in soton in a few hours P1ssing down in Swansea on TV
Wes Tender Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Wet and windy in West End, but it could ease off in the next few hours
Batman Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Wet and windy in West End, but it could ease off in the next few hours it will, not raining here in the west country and has not for the last 2 hours.the let up is coming
Huffton Posted 1 January, 2014 Author Posted 1 January, 2014 it will, not raining here in the west country and has not for the last 2 hours.the let up is coming According to the met office radar its staying until at least 4pm, theres a load more headed your way as well
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 The club are tweeting there's no problem
Batman Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 According to the met office radar its staying until at least 4pm, theres a load more headed your way as well well, All i can say is that the rain has virtually stopped and has done for a couple of hours and looks like it will for a little while the ease up will hit southampton soon I should imagine. which is good news for the game dont get me wrong, it is still miserable outside club just said there is not even a pitch inspection planned no worries then
Roger Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 (edited) This game will not be going ahead. They've just said it definitely will and no pitch inspection planned with a picture of a perfect pitch. Edited 1 January, 2014 by Roger

Huffton Posted 1 January, 2014 Author Posted 1 January, 2014 They've just said it definitely will and no pitch inspection planned with a picture of a perfect pitch. So do one lol Its not their decision though is it, its down to the ref. If he feels it unsafe or unplayable then no game.
Roger Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Its not their decision though is it, its down to the ref. If he feels it unsafe or unplayable then no game. No pitch inspection planned. Don't you feel that the ref would indicate to the club? Anyway with the drainage system it won't be off.
Mr Dad Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Looks to me as though its going to be pretty constant rain all day. Not getting worse so it will be on. http://www.meteox.co.uk/h.aspx?r=&jaar=-3&soort=exp Click on three hour forcast at left of page. Wouldn't the ref have called for a pitch inspection if there were any doubt?
hutch Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 well, All i can say is that the rain has virtually stopped and has done for a couple of hours and looks like it will for a little while the ease up will hit southampton soon I should imagine. which is good news for the game dont get me wrong, it is still miserable outside club just said there is not even a pitch inspection planned no worries then If you think it's miserable outside, just wait till the match thread gets started. Happy New Year everybody.
S-Clarke Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I'm more worried about being blown into the Itchen on my way to the ground..!
Roger Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I'm more worried about being blown into the Itchen on my way to the ground..! You think it will be on clarkey?
S-Clarke Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 You think it will be on clarkey? It's a modern ground, the only time I remember having an issue with rain was during the Leicester game back in 06 and Palace in 05 i think. But if anything, the rain will now slow down to the normal begin light drizzle we're renown for down here!
country bumpkin Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 No. salisbury home game is off waterlogged
John Boy Saint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 The state of the tide is the overriding influence, the only game we have lost to rain was the Palace game and that was down to a high spring tide not allowing the surface water drains to run off into the Itchen / Solent.
aintforever Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 The drainage at St Mary's is very good. I think the only danger of waterlogging is if there is really intense rain just before kick-off, even then I think they can just wait half an hour or so and it will drain away (think that has happened before).
Window Cleaner Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I'm more worried about being blown into the Itchen on my way to the ground..! nothing like a dip in the Itchen to welcome the New Year, sets you up a treat.
SW5 SAINT Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 If you think it's miserable outside, just wait till the match thread gets started. laugh out loud thingy…….
eurosaint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I guess the fact that it is live on BT Sport means that it will go ahead ! TV rules the world these days after all !
InvictaSaint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Just got here after driving down from Kent. Journey was uninterrupted but some of the worst conditions I have seen on the motorways in many a year. Amazing the number of people with no lights on in this sort of weather! Parked off the Avenue; rain much lighter, wind still quite strong.
Roger Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Wouldn't mind a postponement and playing them with Boruc and Wanyama. Might go ahead, but if weather carries on like this it might not finish. Could be more a game of luck than judgement anyway. No chance. Not too bad now.
kwsaint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I'm in Kings Worthy, and it isn't much more than drizzle at the top of Lovedon Lane! Was gonna run down the Worthies club to watch the game me thinks.
Huffton Posted 1 January, 2014 Author Posted 1 January, 2014 Posting this from the ground, rain has turned to squally drizzle, pitch looking very good. Very windy though, a good day to play it on the floor!
Dr Who? Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Our pitch and drainage are both the best in the premier league. The game will be fine.... rewind the clock to 2000 and it would have been off already!
