Greenridge Posted 1 January, 2014 Share Posted 1 January, 2014 100% correct! He is mostly a complete waste of space. There should be an inquest into MP decision making taking Cork off and leaving him on the pitch He was on a yellow and probably could have had one earlier too. In the atrocious conditions he could have easily got a second without doing too much wrong. I'm guessing that was at least part of the reason. As for Gaston.... S-Clarke Posted 1 January, 2014 Share Posted 1 January, 2014 He had a couple of good moments today, but unfortunately far too many frustrating and annoying passages of play - i.e giving the ball away, being brushed off the ball so often, losing out in a tackle....losing the ball whilst running with it. So basically, the same as usual. Exceptionally talented, agreed. But to me....after what is now 18+ months, I cannot see a future for him in the PL. He's still so off the pace of the game at times, it's unreal. His misplaced passes almost cocked us up in the first half, with Chelsea breakaways. I'd have to agree, that he can be a bit of a liability in our team in terms of the formation and tactics we deploy. You have to be very sound with the ball, otherwise the high press is blown out of the water and the opposition just break on you. Ramirez was the weak link in that sense. I dont agree at all thought he was one of our best players in the first half, look at the great ball he played to set rodriguez up, do you really think rodriguez did more then gaston today?. End of day we played well up until torres got the fluky goal after that we were chasing shadows gaston looked more likely to produce something then most,

End of day we played well up until torres got the fluky goal after that we were chasing shadows gaston looked more likely to produce something then most, Torres didn't get a flukey goal, he showed us that a real striker never gives up, watches the flight of the ball and is ready to pounce on it if it comes back off the keeper, the post or the bar. He was absolutely destroying us down our left all of the first half as well. Edited 1 January, 2014 by Window Cleaner

Roger Posted 2 January, 2014 Author Share Posted 2 January, 2014 If he learnt to pass the f*cking thing 5 yards when it's the best option he might be in danger of becoming a useful asset. As it is, he's an absolute liability. Let Hazard run right round him for that Oscar chance/booking. I hope he's replaced. Just absolute rubbish. Gaston showed promise yesterday and it will take him a few matches to get back into it. Better than lallana and j rod yesterday.

Lighthouse Posted 2 January, 2014 Share Posted 2 January, 2014 I thought Gaston was one of our better attacking players yesterday too, Lallana and JRod were both well off the pace. They looked tired, lethargic and kept making mistakes. I thought Gaston's time here was over a month or so ago when he wasn't making the match day 18, with little word from the club as to why. However if he is back in our plans, I see no need to sell him just yet unless a big offer comes in, which it wont. I'd say give him until the end of the season and decide from there. Jack Posted 2 January, 2014 Share Posted 2 January, 2014 Just absolute rubbish. Gaston showed promise yesterday and it will take him a few matches to get back into it. Better than lallana and j rod yesterday. It's not rubbish at all. He showed some glimpses of the obvious talent he's got, but as usual he gave it away cheaply, doesn't know how or when to play a simple pass, he's weak on the ball etc etc. For a big money signing you'd hope for a lot more. This is a thread about Gaston. I'm aware that Lallana and Rodriguez were poor yesterday, but if you want to change the subject, I'm sure even you could agree that they can both be excised a poor game after their efforts this season. Sadly this is the truth. And I have been as guilty as the next man for getting initially star-struck at the fee, simply because it was so out of our previous league. Young and very talented but unproven: £8-12mil Older (mid 20s-29) and proven talent, BUT with a track record of either: 1) temperament flaws or 2) injury - prone: £10-15mil (Osvaldo comes to mind here!) Bermuda Saint Posted 3 January, 2014 Share Posted 3 January, 2014 I still see what we paid for in Gaston, a young talented footballer that has the potential to be great. Not the finished product (we would have had to pay double for the finished player), he is willing to take players on, be direct and lay off some sublime passes. I remember a young Giggs, Bale and Lallanna loosing many a dribble to opponents, but they kept at it and now have a much higher "beat the man" ratio. Even Lallanna has said the quality and vision of Gaston was something special when he sees him in training. So give the boy time to develop his game with the rest of the young squad. What is the guy supposed to do if the manager is not selecting him? How can people really be that disapointed in him? If you look back at his assists and goals per start his record is pretty decent. I think he is much better player then rodriguez personaly,he has better technique better eye for a pass better shot and is infinitely more skillfull, rodriguez offers workrate pace but not a lot else his touch and shooting technique is lame and he only really scores toe poke finishes,he loses the ball just as much as gaston if not more but only gaston gets criticized. He may still be here on the 1st of February, but I just can't see the club wanting to retain his services beyond next Summer. Good performances are a combination of talent, strength, stamina, footballing intelligence, teamwork and fitting into the managers system. If we keep him it means he ticks most if not all of the boxes and the coaching team think they can improve him, if not they will get rid like they have with Barnard, Sharp, Forte etc. It is after all what they are best qualified to decide and indeed what they are paid for. I suggest we let them decide and in the mean time support our players and therefore our club as best we can!
