Roger Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 I think the guy has loads of talent and Mopo saying that he he is on right road to adapting to our system. A lot if games ie villa, we've has loads of possession but haven't turned them into clear cut chances. I think gaston could be the answer to scoring more goals when sometimes we have to work to hard to a score. Thoughts?
Suhari Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 We'll keep him and he will be a regular starter come the end of the season. He is looking stronger than this time last year, and remains insanely talented.
Roger Posted 31 December, 2013 Author Posted 31 December, 2013 I think he's off on loan. You sure about that? That's a shame. Condradicts with what mp was saying about him being a important member of team .
farawaysaint Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 I think he wants out, can't blame him really.
S-Clarke Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 You sure about that? That's a shame. Condradicts with what mp was saying about him being a important member of team . There's been a bit going on behind the scenes, club see's at as an opportunity for him to play and he wants to play in WC year. Oddly, the club still see him as an asset and a player for the future. But in terms of this season, however good he was on Sunday, he will not be a regular for us this year. Makes sense for both parties I guess. Can't see us actually selling him yet though.
Gemmel Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 I don't think we will sell him. If we sold him, he would be replaced by another creative midfielder who would then need time to adjust to our system etc. so it would be another gamble. Few would argue against his quality, which he has shown in fits and starts. This is a test of MP as much as anything, by molding that talent, into his system, whilst keeping him positive and motivated.... Of course that doesn't always work out, but there are real signs it is moving in the right direction. The most frustrating thing about it all, is that an "on form" Gaston, is (And has been all season) the missing link to the jigsaw. However naïve, I am holding out for him to come good and be a big part of this squad.
HornseySaintsFan Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 heard he may be off to roma as part of a deal to clear the add-ons for osvaldo
Glasgow_Saint Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 I think he will stay. He's started to show some potential and will hopefully repay the faith that ive shown in him Could be a great player for us, if used in the right way

Also I think he's good enough to play for us too. He's just bought a very expensive house and he gives us something different. We don't need to ship out every flair player we have on loan, ie puncheon. I hope the performance vs Everton gives him a reprieve.
trousers Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 heard he may be off to roma as part of a deal to clear the add-ons for osvaldo Interesting first post in over a year... Source? Cheers
sydneysaint17 Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 certainly hope not. However inconsistent he is, he was involved in a lot our goals last year and created several chances on Sunday. Would love to see him given a chance to prove himself in the team
Sour Mash Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 Reckon he'll be sold in the summer unless things drastically change between now and then.
sydneysaint17 Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 Reckon he'll be sold in the summer unless things drastically change between now and then. Agree with that. Can see Poch buying a new AM more suited to our style and giving them preseason to adapt. Depending on how much he plays, I think we can recoup what we paid for Gaston - unbelievable potential.
Ohio Saint Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 I reckon Gaston is still well in the frame for the future. He has obviously needed some work in training and gelling. I think that maybe he has been getting that while out of the spotlight. I expect him to stay and excel.

derry Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 May have turned down Fiorentina. I think he is getting it now after a long time trying to do it his way. I think we will be seeing a lot more of him from here on in. If he doesn't start v Chelsea, he'll get a full game in the cup.
Ohio Saint Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 Can anyone fault Gaston on his enthusiasm?

cjay7 Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 Gaston needs a break.... 2011 copa America .club season ish. 2012 Olympics, club season. Confed cup, club season... He's not not not played or trained for donkeys! This is my theory anyway and I hope that is what poch has recognized andwhy he has given him time to retrain psychologically and physical fitness..With the the second half of the season and the lwc! Make sense?

Dr Who? Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 I think we keep him and we try and make it work for us.
Saint86 Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 People are aware that a firing Ramirez and osvaldo puts us 1 player away from an absolutely quality first 11right? Gk- boruc FB - Shaw clyne chambers CB - Fonte lovren astori (the currently missing player) CDM - spiderman cork wanyama CAM - Ramirez JWP Davis Lallana jayrod CF - Lambert osvaldo
david in sweden Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 we have until the 31st. to see if a " fully-fit " Osvaldo, and a " fully-fit " Ramirez can make a meaningful difference to the upcoming games - otherwise the answer is probably YES.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 No, I don't think we will sell or loan in Jan window unless there is a direct replacement lined up. I don't think we would find a player of his standard for the money we paid, particularly when you consider how much investment to his development we've made. Unless we buy from Barca we'd probably not get someone like him without having to wait for the player concerned to 'come good'.

Cabrone Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I hope not, I think he's a good player and could link up well with Ossie, plus we're not exactly over endowed with attacking midfielders at the moment. I think we have the strikers, we just need a more creative link between midfield and up front so for that reason I hope Gaston gets a good run of games.
alpine_saint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I hope we are selling him, we need to strengthen in other areas and have players here who are interested in the club.
alpine_saint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 May have turned down Fiorentina. I think he is getting it now after a long time trying to do it his way. I think we will be seeing a lot more of him from here on in. If he doesn't start v Chelsea, he'll get a full game in the cup. And this is based on...what ? That a player on 60K per week has finally turned up and put a half-decent 20mins in for the first time this season ?
Olallana Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 I hope we are selling him, we need to strengthen in other areas and have players here who are interested in the club. And still you wanted us desperately to keep Puncheon that didn´t want to be here and SHOWED it by his decision, a thing which Gaston has never made...??
alpine_saint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Puncheon actually did something on the pitch.
Batman Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Puncheon actually did something on the pitch. when?
Roger Posted 1 January, 2014 Author Posted 1 January, 2014 when? 7 goals and some v good performances. Was in the team vs man city home, Liverpool and Chelsea so obviously wasn't too bad.
Olallana Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Puncheon actually did something on the pitch. Yeah basically same amount of goals and assists as the useless Gaston. (and in more games than Gaston)
Batman Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 7 goals and some v good performances. Was in the team vs man city home, Liverpool and Chelsea so obviously wasn't too bad. how many goals did gaston get last season? 1 good game in how long for punchoen?
S-Clarke Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 TBF, statistically, there were very few differences in the contributions of Gaston and Puncheon last season. You could argue, that if Gaston hadn't been in and out of the side in the 2nd half of the season - he may have had better stats. And Puncheon needed to leave for personal reasons, he didn't really want to as he was finally settled here football wise, but family life came first for him. The club reluctantly agreed. He's also had a bit of a nightmare season for Palace, his best performance came last week. Palace fans have actually been asking to get shot in the January window..
Roger Posted 1 January, 2014 Author Posted 1 January, 2014 how many goals did gaston get last season? 1 good game in how long for punchoen? Sorry but that's not right, puncheon for me was better than lallana and gaston last season. Not saying he's better player but was last season IMO. He was very consistent last season and very rarely had a bad game. But not really knocking club for letting him go.
alpine_saint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Yeah basically same amount of goals and assists as the useless Gaston. (and in more games than Gaston) At a fraction of the cost and grief...
Olallana Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 At a fraction of the cost and grief... And not as much value when he leaves the club so that´s not really an arguement to hold on to.... Thought we had had this discussion about costs and assetts in football clubs, still hasn´t picked up on that one?
Batman Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Palace fans have actually been asking to get shot in the January window.. that cant be true, he is brilliant...apparently
Whitey Grandad Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 that cant be true, he is brilliant...apparently Only when he's not playing.
S-Clarke Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 that cant be true, he is brilliant...apparently He's always been decent I think, but nothing special. He's probably top half championship at best, which is probably where he'll be next year.
eurosaint Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 Well, he's playing today so we'll see just what he is made of against a top quality side ! This could be make or break for him IMHO !
Jack Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 If he learnt to pass the f*cking thing 5 yards when it's the best option he might be in danger of becoming a useful asset. As it is, he's an absolute liability. Let Hazard run right round him for that Oscar chance/booking. I hope he's replaced.

There should be an inquest into MP decision making taking Cork off and leaving him on the pitch
Mr X Posted 1 January, 2014 Posted 1 January, 2014 can we now lay it to rest and admit gaston ramirez is a very talented but frustrating and underperforming player that has no future at saints?
