mightysaints Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 I know its not football related but think it should be on the main board . He hit his head on rocks skiing and is in a coma. Met him a few times and is a really nice guy. Lets all hope he recovers.
jawillwill Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 I know its not football related but think it should be on the main board . Why?
Saint_Donovan Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 I'm confused why you thought this would be appropriate for the saints board?
scotty Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 I'm confused why you thought this would be appropriate for the saints board? It'll be moved to general sports once a mod wakes up.
CB Fry Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 Why? I'm confused why you thought this would be appropriate for the saints board? Because Mightysaints wanted to make sure as many as possible knew that I've met him I've met him I've met him I did.
Hatch Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 watching F1 this year nearly put me in a coma as well
sussexsaint Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 Amazed he's only 44 TBH, feels like he's been around forever. Sounds very serious indeed
OldNick Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 he is that cheating German driver isnt he? Motoring forum I would have thought
Window Cleaner Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 he is that cheating German driver isnt he? Motoring forum I would have thought there's already a thread in the general sports I believe. Still when did that matter to people who think whatever they might have to say about anything totally un football related might interest everybody. Bloke has sking accident, happens all of the time, people die in the Alps every day but they're not former F1 drivers are they.
aintforever Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 I hope he gets better but if you choose to slide really fast down an icy mountain on two thin bits of wood you should expect to get injured at some point.
kwsaint Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 watching F1 this year nearly put me in a coma as well funny but probably too soon hatch
Window Cleaner Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 I hope he gets better but if you choose to slide really fast down an icy mountain on two thin bits of wood you should expect to get injured at some point. especially when trying to do it on bits with no snow. Schumacher hit a stone where there was very little snow and went ass over tit. He was skiing between domaines to avoid the riff raff in the ressorts I suppose.
OldNick Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 I hope he gets better but if you choose to slide really fast down an icy mountain on two thin bits of wood you should expect to get injured at some point.|I expect he was trying to push a fellow skier who was doing better off the run
buctootim Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 I hope he gets better but if you choose to slide really fast down an icy mountain on two thin bits of wood you should expect to get injured at some point. That and horse riding. Much more deadly than motorbike riding apparently.
sussexsaint Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 Horse riding is wicked for causing serious trauma - seen some really awful head injuries and fractures from it. Mind you seen a few doozies from motorbikes as well. Probably shouldn't try skiiing on a horse
Lighthouse Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 This isn't the first Hill he has crashed into. Sorry. Seriously though, hope he gets well soon. especially when trying to do it on bits with no snow. Schumacher hit a stone where there was very little snow and went ass over tit. He was skiing between domaines to avoid the riff raff in the ressorts I suppose. More likely because skiing off piste is far more challenging and pushes a human being to the edge of their abilities. It's part of the mind-set that made Schumacher a 7 time world Champion. Similarities with the crash that killed Ayrton Senna in a way. He was a true great but being right on the limit of what is humanly possible ultimately proved his downfall.

Grey Crab Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 I know, I know, It's serious. Do you really think he'll pull through?
Viking Warrior Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 Grey crab . Yes he will pull thru However other news . Over 30 people lost their lives due to 2 suicide bombers I raise this point because Schumacher was out enjoying themselves yet the victims of the suicide bombs were going about their everyday jobs but did have a chance . More impotantly the victims of the suicide bombs are not uk media newsworthy ' I'm not out to offend Schumacher fans just putting life inti perspective
Viking Warrior Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 Ps I hope he gets well for his family and friends

Viking Warrior Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 My point exactly windows . Yet we are getting wall to wall coverage because he is a famous racing driver
farawaysaint Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 Ps I hope he gets well for his family and friends Sound bites from the French medical team seem to be prepping everyone for the worst, it doesn't sound like he has much of a chance.
Window Cleaner Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 Sound bites from the French medical team seem to be prepping everyone for the worst, it doesn't sound like he has much of a chance. Oh they're probably prepping everyone for the miracle of their intervention more likely.
suewhistle Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 Two skiers killed in Italy on Saturday in one of my old haunts. Knowing the run they were on (Couis 1) and the level of avalanche danger at the time I don't think I'd have been there. Wait for the snow pack to settle, for Christ sake.
suewhistle Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 Oh, and wait for the base to build up it it's thin. Some meadow type/based runs need very little coverage but much high altitude off-piste needs loads more to cover the rocks.

Sheaf Saint Posted 30 December, 2013 Posted 30 December, 2013 A close friend of mine suffered a serious head trauma in a motorway pile-up a few years ago, and so far the reports coming from Grenoble are eerily similar. He was apparently conscious when he was taken into the hospital but following emergency surgery he was kept in an induced coma for over two weeks because they wanted to allow the swelling to go down before they revived him. I expect it will be a while yet before any news of Schumi's condition is released.
benjii Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 Do you really think he'll pull through? There were times when I could have strangled him but, you know, I would hate anything to happen to him.
Viking Warrior Posted 31 December, 2013 Posted 31 December, 2013 I love the press speculation . Full of so called neurosurgical experts . The treatment he is receiving is the same as for all brain trauma injuries . Put into induced coma , state of hypothermia . Evacuate any bleeding to relieve inter cranial pressure . The medical team must get pretty ****ed off re the question being fired at them at these press conferences . I would have been ****ed of if I was that medical team being asked if he was going to be evacuated back to Germany . He probably will in due course but not until such time as his condition is completely stabilised . And secondly the BBC headlines . Schumacher improving . It's not what the med team actually said and one if the mec deliberately clarified the state of play . So far so good but things can deteriorate just as quick . But they seem to have stopped any further bleeding and subsequequent inter cranial pressure. The med team were being cautious and guarded during the press conference
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 4 January, 2014 Posted 4 January, 2014 A close friend of mine suffered a serious head trauma in a motorway pile-up a few years ago, and so far the reports coming from Grenoble are eerily similar. I expect it will be a while yet before any news of Schumi's condition is released. I too had a family member who suffered a major head injury (in a car crash) a few years. She survived and came out of her coma somehow, even after we were told by the staff at the specialist Addenbrooks Hospital brain trauma unit that she probably wouldn't. Her recovery took a hell of a long time though, and I'd be lying if I said she was the same person as she was before the accident.

The med team were being cautious and guarded during the press conference Indeed this is the problem with brain injuries , all they can comment on at the moment is the state of the bleeding the intracranial pressure etc. what no one can predict at the moment is what level of function will be lost if any by the initial trauma the blood clots the surgery the hypoxia the raised ICP etc etc. As I said above survival is actually the easiest part of this battle it's function that is the tricky bit. In that regard seaborn was an exceptionally lucky lad
Jimmy_D Posted 4 April, 2014 Posted 4 April, 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26885624 Showing signs of starting to wake up...
Dr Who? Posted 5 April, 2014 Posted 5 April, 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26885624 Showing signs of starting to wake up... This is good news, but what state will he be in?
Lets B Avenue Posted 5 April, 2014 Posted 5 April, 2014 This is good news, but what state will he be in? Isere. But its a department, not a state.
sussexsaint Posted 5 April, 2014 Posted 5 April, 2014 I don't hold out much hope, but would love to be wrong
Gemmel Posted 16 June, 2014 Posted 16 June, 2014 Out of his coma - Great news http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-27868787
Saint in Paradise Posted 18 June, 2014 Posted 18 June, 2014 Alas it might not be such "Great News" as most of us hope it is. http://formerf1doc.wordpress.com/2014/06/16/good-news/
Wrensup Posted 18 June, 2014 Posted 18 June, 2014 For anyone interested, kevin peace a former pro snowboarder had an accident practicing for the Olympics, causing serve brain damage/trauma and ended up in a coma for a long time. He eventually made an almost complete recovery. Serious worth watching the film if you're interested, the film is called The Crash Reel http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Crash_Reel
