Gaston HAS to play more......

As frustrating as he may be, the guy is sheer class and creates chances. He is what we are missing.......a genuine playmaker. If we can get him firing and Osvaldo back we will look more potent up front.

Sadly Rickie looks like his legs have gone and we have so many hard workers in midfield but no-one who really looks dangerous (Lallana aside).

I truly hope Gaston stays and develops into the player he could be.....not least to shut all the moronic haters up on this once decent site.

He was good when he came on, but he has had so many chances and false dawns in the last 18 months. And it was a good shot, but horrific goal keeping from Robles if we're absolutely honest. Stick him in against Chelsea and in the FA Cup game...see if he can get a head of steam going.

He's still got a lot to prove, but frustratingly I honestly think whatever happens that he's off in January. Don't think we'll replace him, but he's too expensive to have as a squad player and that's clearly what the club see him as.

Beat me to the post.

Exactly my thoughts. He was good today. Him and Ossie would be ace.

This thread really wouldn't be here if Robles had made the save he should have. Glad to see him score, would be great to boost his confidence but I really don't think he's "sheer class"

I don't see anyone else in our team who could have or would have tried from that distance. He is the missing link in our team so if MP does not see that, then we have a problem going forwards as we lack creativity in the final third.

Sorry but that is gash. He was excellent today. S Davis etc will work hard but never had that much ability madness to sell him

Sorry, what's gash about that? He was excellent today, as I said. I didn't disagree with that. Not sure what you've disagreed with in the post...

He did, but the shape of the team was altered as well. We scarified a defensive midfield player and pushed higher up, so we would have automatically looked more dangerous.

Prowse didn't track back all day he should have come off!

He is a very good player, he just struggles to get into games. You can normally tell with him after he's been on the pitch 10 minutes whether its worth keeping him on.

Problem with Pochettino is that he wants hard graft and Gaston is never going to be flying into tackles. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks, but I think a deal has already been reached for him to leave.

You say that he's had loads of chances in the last 18 months. He did last season, but this season how many league starts did he actually have? None, and the games he did start in the league cup he scored 2 really class goals.

The reason he sometimes gives the ball away is because he is at least TRYING to play that killer pass that will actually DO something rather than just keep possession and wash his hands of responsibility.

This really has been the major difference between Lallana now and Lallana "dribble-it-five-yards-and-pass-it-back-to-our-defenders" of 4-5 years ago. Both him and Gaston take responsibility for creating chances, rather than just keeping things ticking over and waiting for the chance to come.

We have to play a midfield of MS/Wanyama and Ramirez, with Rodriguez and Lallana on the wings and Osvaldo up front. (Drop Wanyama for Davies if you prefer).

Okay see what you said but I don't think he's had too many chances and against spurs and today was working much harder.

Ramirez has looked up for it in his last few sub appearances, you can tell he really wants to play. Maybe it's another false dawn, on the other hand perhaps it isn't. He should be given the opportunity to start a couple of league matches and see if he can do it over 90 minutes.

Pocchetinos treatment of ramirez has been ludicrous tbh, lets be honest cork jwp and davies are all the same type of player sideways passers and not much creativity.

Then you have gaston who can beat players play cracking slide balls and hit beautys like today sat on the bench.

Todays goal was for you gaston haters. WHAT YOU SAYING NOW BARRY BULL**** HAHA

Adam Blackmore ‏@bigadamsport 1m

Mauricio Pochettino just told me that Gaston Ramirez can still be an important member of #saintsfc squad this season

It's been 'can be' not 'will be' ever since Pochettino arrived, not sure why. His work rate's always good on the pitch but maybe he's not 100% at it in some other way.

He was decent today and I'm pleased he got some time.

I think the key is Ossie. He will be well aware of what Gaston can do and create the type runs that can create mayhem.

last couple of matches he has looked sharp, against spurs he looked more interested than he has in a while. He must know with the world cup coming up he should be playing as often as he can so is putting in the effort Poh wants for him. Or maybe its just the new hair band.

You can't say he hasn't been given chances before though. If he starts on Wednesday and gets taken off after 70 mins, the majority on here will be slating him again. However, he hasn't really had a proper run of games so I'd start him in the next couple. Who knows, maybe he's playing for a move in January? FWIW I'd drop JWP, he's gone off the boil a bit, personally not good enough for me for where we want to get to.

He did not change the game when he came on, we were already threatening, **** knows how as most of our players today were ****e. There was a very ironic cheer in the stands when he scored, from the angle I cant tell if the keeper should have saved it, he hit it sweetly to be fair.

He played brilliantly today, don't rewrite history.

I think Cork was taken off as it looked like he was working towards a RED

Indeed, he'd been warned verbally and then yellow limit orange carded, one more iffy challenge and he was toast. We need him on Wednesday to have a real midfield because JWP is absolute toss as a defensive player. In fact I don't think he's very good at all.

Thought mopo was going to get more from him. Gaston clearly has talent so you have to wonder why mopo can't maximise it. Think mopo struggles a bit with the forward players.

Gaston and osWALDO + Lambert have all struggled under him. Jay is hit n miss too

Yeah bring back Adkins, at least most Reading fans would be happy then...

You're obsessed with Adkins. He moved on a year ago mate, let it go

Not at all, but your obsession about Pochettino is ridicolous and why you still like to use "mopo" is beyond everyone here.

Why give the manager of team you (supposedly) support a degrading nickname is just ridicolous.

We have a manager that has raised the team at least two levels in a year, isn´t that enough to make you happy?
