Adam Lallana pledges future to Southampton

:D

Maybe consider it at £30M+

On a side note, ML only paid £15M for the whole club and stadium (yes ok he funded more since), but just shows how far we have come to recoup the initial stake by "potentially" one player!!!!

Cortèse must be doing something very well behind the scenes. People don't seem to want to leave us anymore.

We're in a position (thanks in part to the insanely lucrative broadcasting deal now in place and also the investment made in the club's infrastructure) to properly reward players for their performances these days, while retaining a very competitive team.

Easy to pledge when no bid has been made.

This is also true.

Don't agree, I don't think he would go .

Same was said about Beattie, bale, chamberlain, kevin davies, walcott, bridge, jones, shearer, baird, flowers, berkovic, boa morte, kenna, rod wallace, mcgoldrick, magilton, quashie.

Fact is when bigger clubs come knocking and big contracts are offered loyalty is often forgotten

Only change now is that it would take one of the top 4/6 to tempt our players away

"Champions league has always been my dream" bla bla bla

Same was also said about Le Tissier, Dodd, Lallana (in League 1 and Championship).

The difference is in how attached they feel to the club andI would venture that Lallana feels more attached than those you mentioned above.

Were in a different situation now though with richer owners and an ambitious chairman. In aoc'scase we are in prem now. Be optimistic.

A valid arguement to counter the cynics on the board that think that players are so mercenary that they'd jump at the chance of moving to a 'bigger' club. Some people value happiness, loyalty, a forward thinking chairman with a innovative plan, and playing for a club that they love (plus a decent wage) above the potentially false glory of foreign billionaire funded trophy wins. Not all players are that shallow. This could come back to bite me but I hope not!

Did many insist that those players would not leave us? I seem to recall that there was an overall acceptance that as we were paupers, especially under the Lowe regime, that we would have to accept any decent offer made for a player to keep afloat year on year. And we accepted that players would naturally have their heads turned by the opportunity to play for a much bigger club rather than fear the constant battle against relegation that we endured. You don't seem to have recognised that there has been a change in our fortunes during the past few years and now the players are more likely to feel that with us they have a brighter future from featuring in a team on the rise, rather than warming the bench for one of the glory teams, many of whom are currently in a state of flux.

So, the Daily Star publish a "Man Utd want Lallana" back page story on 25th December followed by a Daily Mirror "Lallana's Reaction to Man Utd Interest" story a few days later....except that they are using quotes first published on 8th December...?

It's a funny old game....

Andrew surnam was a player I thought had a great future. But then it wasn't really his fault he had to leave as we were disparate for cash . I wonder what sort of future he would have had . If he had stayed with us . I'm pleased in many ways he I'd doing well with the cherries , but saddened he never reached his full potential .

At least Adam stayed and we have a superstar on our books .

Different story 'if' united were to bid.... Trust me

Once again:D......you have made my day and cheered me up no end.:)

You do make me larf:lol:

Trust?

PS..United under Ferguson would let the press know just before they play us/opposition...

their interest in our better players...will be interesting to see if Moyes plays the same little mind games:p

A move to man it'd would probably double his wages and guarantee his place on the plane to Brazil, I like Adam a lot but it is very very unusual for a player to turn down a move to one if the biggest clubs in the world. I hope he and all our other important players are here come the first of February but should Adam in particular decide to leave I for one would wish him well and thank him for his service to the club.

Players will always come and go it is how they play for the saints and the manner of their parting which decides how they are remembered, we are still a small mid table club in this league so we should expect to loose some players to the big boys every now and then.

'If' is the important variable. If Lallana is United's top target, if they want to make a bid for player on a four year contract, if they can put together a acceptable pitch, if Cortese acknowledges their bid, if the player shows interest, followed by three big ifs - if Cortese is willing to do business at all for his star player, if United's price matches Southampton's, and if the business can be concluded in the current window.

I would be surprised 'if' anything happens...

In many ways you are of course right.

But Utd are a strange case at the moment. Look what happened in the summer, they struggled to get anyone in with a number of players turning them down. Even players linked more recently have said they don't want to leave their current clubs or aren't interested in man utd.

I'm sure utd will be fine, and should Adam go I wouldn't really begrudge him it. But I have a feeling he won't be so quick to jump ship just yet. I'd put money on him being here til the end of the season at the very least. Could be wrong, but I would be more surprised at him going now than him staying.

Having more money, or the chance of making more in Adams case, doesn't mean you change your life, look at lottery winners who remain in the same area they grew up in, even the same house.

So if you have enough money and earning enough to ensure a good life and retirement, and are content in your surroundings then why move.

Look what happened to the likes of Wilfried Zaha.

I think he would get more game time at the Saints, and would be more likely to get to the World cup with us.

correct, the have more than enough attacking midfielders. Adam wouldn't get much game time there, look at Kagawa.

Adam has a free role on the pitch and drifts where he can influence the game which is a big part of his success with us. He wouldn't get that anywhere else (in terms of big teams ) and at Utd, he would probably be confined to a wing role or worse, a CM role.
