EXCLUSIVE: Manchester United plan to sign Adam Lallana

Are you seriously suggesting that Adam Lallana hasn't "built his career up over a number of years" and is only "looking for a short cut to success?". Seriously? After the service he has given us?

Adam Lallana owes us nothing, and frankly is not really going to achieve much more at Saints. If he wants to move to a bigger club, good luck to him.

Personally I can't see it, mainly because I don't think it is the kind of signing Moyes needs to make right now. Now Man U fan is going to be dancing in the streets if they sign Adam Lallana.

Maybe you should ask a few, as I think they'd be over the moon.

He won't go to Manchester United in this window as Manchester United will not be willing to pay the asking price, which is likely to be around the £40m mark. The last time Cortese sold a valued player was in the third division, and that player was a kid with no high level experience -£15 million with strangulation clauses.

Lallana is the current captain of a top half Premier League side, 25 approaching peak, and a current England international. Just imagine the terms of any transfer, imagine...

It's hilarious the amount of people claiming there is 'no chance' of him going to Man United, like its the most ridiculous thing they've ever heard. Its Man United FFS! they might be going through a sticky patch but they are still on one the worlds biggest clubs who can offer a player champions league football, the prospect of medals and a shoe in to the England squad. If this is serious I'd be very surprised if he stays and you wouldn't blame him for going.

I generally agree but I think their chances of Champions League football next year are about 5%. I don't think they will finish top 5, nevermind top 4 and I can't see them winning the CL this year.

He might want to join but we would want at least 30million and they might not be willing to spend that much on him.

Why did Saurez sign for Liverpool? We seriously need to accept where we are in the pecking order of things, can we bring up some embarrassing prediction threads and how good our team is from only a few months ago? The only thing we need for us to advance is an awful lot of money, its as simple as that, otherwise our brightest and best will always go, it is as simple as that.

That's 5% more than he's got right now and if he joined them in January he'd get it this season as well as a guaranteed place on the plane to Brazil

What does that mean? That he wont go? They did, Christ alive, can you honestly in your heart of hearts imagine that happening?

At the negotiation table

"Sorry as you signed Rodwell and Sinclair I am not coming"

Delusion abounds.

Maybe he values his footballing career more than those two and dont wanna go down the same path?

Could also add Adam Johnson to that...

I don't reckon he'd go.

I am with you on that, what gets to me about all this transfer bullxxxt is the fact that the top 4-6 clubs think that they have the god given right to remain at the top, the only way they can do this is throwing more and more money at players; we have shown through our academy that their is another and better way, to sell players like Ward-Prowse, Shaw and Reed would be a reverse of our principals and cannot be allowed. Cortese has implemented more than just a successful club, he has these young and gifted players believing in Southampton and knowing that if they do well, playing in the premiership, the so called top clubs cannot offer that, so if I was N.C. I would tell them all to go forth and multiply, but not quite so many words.

Yeah, that's how professional footballers minds' work: "I won't sign for them because I'll just be a failure like those other players".

No self belief at all. Amazing they even climb out of bed in the morning.

Are you saying he wont get a game? Then why would anyone sign for them? Or anyone, you rate him and yet you doubt he has the ability.

Selective and selfish thinking.

He's the sort of signing Man U would want to make to help push for the top 4 this year so I can see a January bid coming in if a bid is forthcoming. Regardless what anyone says about saints being a new force to be reckoned with he'd be a fool not to jump at the chance to play in a team that can make him a starter for England not just a squad player and play in the current champs league campaign. getting past cortese would be the difficult aspect, I honestly believe he won't take less than 30m.

Of course there is no middle ground.

If I was a saints fan and a professional footballer that had given my club great service for a few years and Man United wanted to sign me I'd be very grateful for having the honour of playing for my club, but as some one that was ambitious and wanted to win things and play at the top level I'd be straight up the m6.

Lets hope Adams made of sterner stuff and wants to be part of something special here. Hes still young, plenty of time to go glory hunting in a couple of seasons time.

The happier ones really do make me laugh as well, hands over eyes and in ears, have they ever ventured out of Southampton and have they seen the size and pulling power of other clubs? They honestly think Cortese can fend off these clubs, these institutions, naivety at its purest.

Classic m-board thinking. Absolute self-righteous fury when SFC players are overlooked for international call-ups in favour of players from "big clubs".

But if our player joined a "big club" the m-boarders start saying how our player wouldn't get a game there.

Such unshakable belief we have in our lads.

I wasn't saying that - Utd have huge pulling power still however if they want a player within next 30 days that puts cards in our hand. They have good fans as well. Loads of hangers on who don't go to games but still brilliant support that is unrivalled

Dont see where I said that, can you guide me?

Just saying that I dont think it´s such a clear case that he would jump on the first chance if they came in with an offer. Some players are smart enough to know what role they want to play and I´m not sure that City would promise him that.

Can fend them off in January. Why have a Utd had such poor transfer success of late if they can just pick off players? They made that mistake with their Baines bid.

You believe Lallana would not want to go? Is it the lure of the New Forest keeping him at the club? United arguably the largest club on the planet (certainly in the top 3) could not compete with Southampton for Lallana signature?

As opposed to those that see a daily star story and always give it so much credence and resign themselves to it happening.

Do you count this reply as stalking btw?

Suarez wanted to go - Liverpool fended it off. Not saying can long term but there is no way saints have to agree to this happening in January

And you don't appear to be reading my posts. Just creating the extreme opposing viewpoint in your own mind and responding to it when no one has said it.

As I said if we start offering that sort of money and signing players like Suarez then of course our players wont go anywhere, Cortese cant and wont do that so we will lose our best players all the time every time.

The dippers are going to pay him 200k per week to stay! Thats not exactly "fending" it off

The point was if a player wants to go nothing you can do about it. Pretty much every journo was saying he would but Liverpool proved didn't have to cave in. This was before his new contract btw.

I don't think the argument is whether Utd can attract our best players - of course they can and has always been the case. The point is if they want him in Jan transfer window it is not a given that he will go, whether he wants to or not.

But Liverpool have caved in? They are going to pay him nearly £1 million a month to stay

If they didnt he would leave. Money talks and if Adam was offered united and a wage rise he'd sprint there quicker than Jono Forte

Suarez staying is an insurance scheme for all concerned, Suarez is assured that if they fail to get in to the Champions League he can leave in the summer, if he is sold Liverpool can hold him to a lot more money as he is under contract. Its a good deal for both.

It wouldn't be "jumping at the first chance", would it? He's decided to stay with us before.

And just to be clear - In your opinion is he good enough to play for Man City/United or not?

This is hard work. Short term he stayed. If he wanted to go still he will.

You do understand contracts I assume? Does Cabaye play for Arsenal now?

The fact is if they want him they will get him and Cortese will be swottted like a fly, why would you have a player at a club not wanting to be there?

Agree although subsequent contract is not the point though. Even if he didn't sign anything he still didn't leave in August despite all indications he was desperate to and having offers.

I imagine Lallana woudl have same professional attitude shown by Baines. Not all players are like van Hooijdonk.
