Nigel=God-Poyet=Sod Posted 24 December, 2013 Share Posted 24 December, 2013 Researched these myself, so they could be wrong but hope they are correct. I know we all believe our defence is weak without Fonte and Lovren playing together, and it certainly is: Hooiveld + Fox playing together in the PL: Games: 12 Wins: 1 Draws: 4 Defeats: 7 Points: 7 out of 36 Clean Sheets: 1 (vs Swansea away) Goals Conceded: 26 Win %: 8.3% Loss %: 58.3% Avg goals conceded per game: 2.17 Lovren + Fonte playing together: Games: 13 Wins: 6 Draws: 5 Defeats: 2 Points: 23 out of 39 Clean Sheets: 6 Goals Conceded: 9 Win %: 46.2% Loss %: 15.4% Avg goals conceded per game: 0.69 When they aren't playing together: Games: 4 Wins: 0 Draws: 1 Defeats: 3 Points: 1 out of 12 Clean Sheets: 0 Goals Conceded: 9 Win %: 0 Loss%: 75% Avg goals conceded per game: 2.25 Interesting seeing the actual stats compared I thought. nta786 Posted 24 December, 2013 Share Posted 24 December, 2013 Tbh, this only proves the lack of depth we have :/ Nonetheless, lets get behind our team!
shurlock Posted 24 December, 2013 Share Posted 24 December, 2013 You're not really comparing like for like - 2 CBs vs a CB and a LB. Also Lovren and Fonte have largely played with Shaw and Boruc (and Vic). Would their stats look so good without one or all three of those players? The more interesting question is whether we could get away with an otherwise full strength defense/GK with either Jos or Fox (not both) in it. And which of the two is the lesser evil? IIRC, we just about managed against Swansea this season (with Fox in).

Fox played in our win against Man City last season, while Hooiveld played well in our defeat at Arsenal this season, but both of those were with Boruc behind them, not a rookie with lead boots keeping him stuck on his line. Agree, we can cope with one in the team provided Boruc is in goal but both is a stretch even with Boruc - think Newcastle last season.

Hooiveld played in the Man City win as well, had a particularly good game too.
