The Viking Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 Can anyone help me out on some research - it seems surprisingly hard to find out from the internet. Who were Saints scorers in the 1992 Zenith Cup Final? Much obliged.
St Chalet Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 Can anyone help me out on some research - it seems surprisingly hard to find out from the internet. Who were Saints scorers in the 1992 Zenith Cup Final? Much obliged. I was just 15 and at pub entering age so a little blurred. Was it MLT and Kevin Moore?
millsy Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 Kevin Moore scored with a huge leap, can't remember the other scorer that day
norwaysaint Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 According to "the book", Le Tissier headed home from close rangeafter Ruddock's left wing cross. Moore headed home from an MLT corner. Team: Flowers, Kenna, Benali, Horne, Moore, Ruddock, MLT, ****erill, Shearer, Dowie, Hurlock
The Viking Posted 12 December, 2008 Author Posted 12 December, 2008 Ah yes, Moore does ring a bell. Any confirmation on MLT?
The Viking Posted 12 December, 2008 Author Posted 12 December, 2008 Ooopps, posting overlap. Thanks for that.
St Marco Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 Ah good old memories. Hope we get some revenge on Forest next saturday!
Thedelldays Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 i remember we beat chelsea in the 'southern final' i watched teletext during the game to get the scores as they happened..
sfc6mufc3 Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 I was actually at that game, but cannot remember the scorers. I do remember us being 2-0 before coming back to level at 2-2 before conceding a 3rd. Forests team consisted of the likes of Pearce, Clough, Woan etc.
sfc6mufc3 Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 Sorry I got that wrong no Ian Woan. Gemmil and Black scored for Forest and it went to extra time. It was the last ZENITH cup competition and also the last trophy Clough won for Forest.
lumuah Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 Still got my programme from that day! How we can dream of a final now.....
Whitey Grandad Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 It was absolutely freezing, I have never been so cold. I can still picture Kevin Moore scoring, he was rather pleased.
Right sider Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 Went to quite a few of the games in that cup, including Chelsea away when I seem to remember we scored 5 in the Southern final.
Jesus Reigned Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 i remember we beat chelsea in the 'southern final' i watched teletext during the game to get the scores as they happened.. If memory serves me right we were 2-0 up from the first leg at The Dell. Then in the first couple of minutes of the away leg Jason Cundy got sent off for Chelsea for a professional foul and MLT tucked away the pen. Game over after a minute, then all my mates and I had to worry about was if we were going to get our heads kicked in by angry Chelsea fans after the game; that was in the days when there used to be cars parked behind the goals at Stamford Bridge, God knows what that was all about. Then for reasons still unknown to me I didn't go to the final... 1
revolution saint Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 And branfoot had to be the only manager to be booed by his own fans before a cup final. ah the football was crap back then.....but at least we won some games. 1
Saintrowe Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 it was Kevin Moore and Le God, and Stuart Pearce was taken out the game by super Glenn Fantastic support by the saints that day
adysaint Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 I was 13 and my only ever trip to 'Old' Wembley. My dad took me. We got murdered for the 1st half - went in 2-0 down. Our hoof it up to Dowie and Shearer tactics got nowhere against Forest's crisp passing game. We came out for the 2nd half - got murdered some more. Forest should have been out of sight but Flowers made some stupendous stops. On 60ish minutes a rare Saints corner got cleared out to Ruddock who whipped in a delicious cross for MLT to ghost in and head home from close range. Suddenly, the whole complexion of the game changed and Saints were in complete control. 68 mins - a MLT corner came in and Kevin Moore - who had been recalled from a loan spell due to a CB injury crisis [and wasn't even named in the squad list in the Programme] ran from outside the area, jumped the highest a football player or Michael Jordan has ever jumped and crashed an unstoppable header in off the underside of the bar. We had chances to win it. Terry Hurlock hit a screamer that was destined to crash into the top corner for one of THE great Wembley goals but the young lad Marriot somehow pushed it away. And we lost in extra time despite looking the more likely team. We didn't know at the time it would be the last ZDS final. I wonder if the trophy is still in Forest's Trophy Cabinet? It should have been in ours...
harvey Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 All I remember is that it was ****ing down with rain and the traffic was horrendous getting in to London..........can remember even less after leaving the pub.
St Marco Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 I remember the celebrity half time match with Hale and Pace in goal, was classic. Don't think i have ever forgiven Gemmil since to be honest! Still got the programme somewhere!
SaintJimbo Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 A very good day out for sure, and if i recal didnt the great MLT take alittle dive to win a pen against west ham in the area semi?
Toomer Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 I have still got the ZDS Final shirt Blue Flame fleck effect Draper Tools.
hamster Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 I am sure that there was a link to the highlights on the old forum. It is out there somewhere. What a day.
Hatch Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 Probably the most ****ed I have ever been at a game. Didn't come home for two days after.
whizzpop Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Dhh7JDyULsc&feature=related Best there is out there! Wish they would release it on DVD
Kenilworthy Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 In the car park crush after the game the right wing of my Astra was wiped out by a coach carrying the Forest directors. 1
Legod Third Coming Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 I remember the celebrity half time match with Hale and Pace in goal, was classic. Don't think i have ever forgiven Gemmil since to be honest! Still got the programme somewhere! Ironic that his dad nutmegged our current manager in the 78 World Cup Finals?
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 12 December, 2008 Posted 12 December, 2008 I have still got the ZDS Final shirt Blue Flame fleck effect Draper Tools. Does it still fit :-)
Toomer Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 Does it still fit :-) If I said it did I would be telling fibs.
alehouseboys Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 I have still got the ZDS Final shirt Blue Flame fleck effect Draper Tools. ...but Saints playing at Wembley in blue!!! Probably one of the loudest crowds I've been in particularly when we were fighting back towards the end. Every Saints attack was roared on by a thunderous noise, remember my mate's nipper in tears at the final whistle as the emotion got to him...and he was a Spurs fan! Worst thing of the day was sitting still on the North Circular what seemed for hours (before nad after), missing out on the pub before because of it and only getting inside Wembley right on kick-off.
lamanga Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 Me too. Got in at kick off. Still got the programme somewhere, will have to look. It was black, shiny, with a green tree data thing on the cover if I remember.
Shuggy Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 and the flare chucked on to the running track area after making it 2-2, stewards all o'er the gaff after that.
Iowsaintsfan Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 I still have a large foam hand from the game!
exit2 Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 that season cost me an arm and a leg. I did all the ZDS home and away, if I remember rightly we had plymouth, chelsea not sure of the others. Also that year we had a good cup run in the FA Cup, Man Utd Away, Norwich away etc
Stanley Saint Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 'twas a great day, and still the only time I've been to Wembley (refuse to go to watch any other team; slightly too young for '76 and '79). Fans were in such good spirits that we even applauded Forest on their 'lap of honour', much to their evident surprise.
mynameisthehulk Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 I was at the southern area final home and away legs and the final. I beleive it was the away leg when Dennis Wise bet MLT a fiver he would miss the penalty, we all know the outcome of that one I am also pretty sure that Chelsea got a penalty in this game and MLT offered Wise double or quits, and Wise missed. Perhaps I am making it up though...
The Majestic Channon Posted 13 December, 2008 Posted 13 December, 2008 I almost got lynched for singing 'oooh terry hurlock' outside fulham broadway after the 2 nd leg at chelsea . I had the final on vid, lost it.

Mr Sparky Posted 14 December, 2008 Posted 14 December, 2008 Happy day !!!!!!!!!!!!! I do still have the game on VHS if someone wants to digitally remaster it
SaintJimbo Posted 14 December, 2008 Posted 14 December, 2008 Most ever games in one season to that year, 69 i think,

Our Claus Posted 14 December, 2008 Posted 14 December, 2008 We didn't know at the time it would be the last ZDS final. I wonder if the trophy is still in Forest's Trophy Cabinet? It should have been in ours... Its in the National Football Museum in Preston. True fact.

fanimal Posted 15 December, 2008 Posted 15 December, 2008 very sad to report but Kev is now suffering memory loss etc... And it did pour down that day, we sat on the side directly under the edge of the old roof and it dripped on us non stop! But the game kept the cold out tho.
