Convict Colony Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 interesting that kelvin is on the bench as GK
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 So K Davis is on the bench. Madness not playing him.
Lighthouse Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 What the hell is that team? Thought Clyne and Davis were back and lovren injured now. What are they doing in the training ground? So many injuries! Nobody at the club has said Clyne and Davis were back, it was just media speculation. Lovren isn't injured he has a bug. Possibly the same one Shaw had. Let's be positive, the back for are all decent players, it's just Gazza I'm worried about.
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Should be strong enough to get something. Only real weak link is Gazzaniga (as long as Yoshida isn't off form).
DuncanRG Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Long as we're confident and organised (I know, I know...) I don't think we have too much to fear from open play. We'll miss Lovren at set-pieces big time though.
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 interesting that kelvin is on the bench as GK So K Davis is on the bench. Madness not playing him. Davis sub GK instead of Cropper? Where you getting this from?
SaintRobbie Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 so no lovren and gazzaclowna still in goal = defeat Good betting odds for a Cardiff win. I suspect given this team sheet it's worth £10 on a Cardiff win. Betting with head not heart…. our defence is simply too poor with Gazza's indecisiveness. We can score, dominate in midfield, pass and show some great spirit up front - but without a solid keeper and central defenders we are too susceptible to a couple of moments of quality from Cardiff. You never know though, and I for one am hoping to lose a tenner! Come on Saints!!
DuncanRG Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Where you getting this from? The official Twitter's corrected the teamsheet
The Kraken Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Where you getting this from? Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC4m Kelvin Davis returns to the #SaintsFC bench after injury, replacing @codycropper.
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Another defeat beckons Get a grip for christs sake. There's more than enough there for get something, Yoshida should have an easier time than recent appearances. Only weak link is Gazza.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Where you getting this from? They posted a correction.
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC4m Kelvin Davis returns to the #SaintsFC bench after injury, replacing @codycropper. Fair enough. Another case of not quite fit enough, but we'll stick him on the bench anyway? I cannot believe they wouldn't put him in goal if he was fully fit.
DuncanRG Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 There's a case to be made for stability in goal as well, when you've made three changes to the back four.
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 There's a case to be made for stability in goal as well, when you've made three changes to the back four. Yeah, because Gazza provides f*cking stability doesn't he, with his 7 goals conceded from 9 shots on target and point blank refusal to come off his line. Jesus christ.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Hoping Fonte takes charge of the defence today and shows that he can play just as well without Lovren alongside him.
Pastor Patrón Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Does our squad have aids or something?
Lighthouse Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Fair enough. Another case of not quite fit enough, but we'll stick him on the bench anyway? I cannot believe they wouldn't put him in goal if he was fully fit. It does put the calls to start Cropper into perspective though. The professional coaches who train them every day have clearly decided Gazza > Unfit Kelvin > Cropper. Clearly Gazza is the best we have at the moment. He may be a liability but there isn't much we can do until the January sales start. I believe Debenhams' are doing 40% keepers.
SaintRobbie Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 http://cricfree.tv/live/watch/cardiff_city_vs_southampton/17190 This one's looking a fair quality stream at the moment.
The Kraken Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 There's a case to be made for stability in goal as well, when you've made three changes to the back four. There's also a case to be made for ditching stability when your goalkeeper has conceded 10 goals in his last 4 and a bit games. Not that Kelvin is much of an alternative option IMO. We really have been exposes with Boruc's absence.
whelk Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 It is like the summer transfers didn't happen
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 It does put the calls to start Cropper into perspective though. He may be a liability but there isn't much we can do until the January sales start. I believe Debenhams' are doing 40% keepers. But training is totally different to a match environment. Gazza has not once looked comfortable or confident, regardless of how well he does in training.
beatlesaint Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 There's a case to be made for stability in goal as well, when you've made three changes to the back four. Not sure that applies when the keeper inquestion installs no bloody confidence in anyone in front of him.
Saint_Tony Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Get a grip for christs sake. There's more than enough there for get something, Yoshida should have an easier time than recent appearances. Only weak link is Gazza. With that defence you' ve got to be worried, we're hardly prolific in front of goal. Big performance due from Rickie
DuncanRG Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 There's also a case to be made for ditching stability when your goalkeeper has conceded 10 goals in his last 4 and a bit games. Not that Kelvin is much of an alternative option IMO. We really have been exposes with Boruc's absence. Well indeed, but we don't know how fit (or even how good) Davis is at the moment.
Saint Charlie Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Overall a better back 4 IMO even with Lovren out. No Fox or OG a massive plus.
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 With that defence you' ve got to be worried, we're hardly prolific in front of goal. Big performance due from Rickie Why? Shaw and Fonte are first choice, Chambers has been excellent and it was widely agreed that Yoshida was solid last season. If he can recreate that form there's no reason they shouldn't perform as a unit.
Pastor Patrón Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Why? Shaw and Fonte are first choice, Chambers has been excellent and it was widely agreed that Yoshida was solid last season. If he can recreate that form there's no reason they shouldn't perform as a unit. Yoshida's terrible. Your opinion of Yoshida being anything other then terrible, is terrible.
Bewildered Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 BBC Solent Sport @solentsport 1m A late change to the #saintsfc squad vs #CardiffCity. Kelvin Davis returns to the bench to replace the injured Cody Cropper. Davis only on the bench because Cropper picked up a late injury.
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Yoshida's terrible. Your opinion of Yoshida being anything other then terrible, is terrible. Righto. When was it that opinion changed then? As everyone thought he and Lovren would be first choice this season.
Saint Without a Halo Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Only two regular outfield subs in Ward-Prowse and Ramierez not much strength on the bench today!
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 My money is on Cardiff... Sorry guys We just cant seem to cope when 1 or 2 key players are out
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 BBC Solent Sport @solentsport 1m A late change to the #saintsfc squad vs #CardiffCity. Kelvin Davis returns to the bench to replace the injured Cody Cropper. Davis only on the bench because Cropper picked up a late injury. So Davis wasn't injured before hand!? Only two regular outfield subs in Ward-Prowse and Ramierez not much strength on the bench today! Gallagher will pose a threat if required.

Kelvin Davis returns to the bench to replace the injured Cody Cropper. Davis only on the bench because Cropper picked up a late injury. I've never known a season of injuries like this one. It's relentless
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 I've never known a season of injuries like this one. It's relentless Double training!!
Bewildered Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 So Davis wasn't injured before hand!? I imagine it means Davis is not quite 100%, but still in better shape than Cropper now.
Pastor Patrón Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Righto. When was it that opinion changed then? As everyone thought he and Lovren would be first choice this season. I never change my opinion, I'm correct from the outset. He is however slightly better then Jos. I'd like to see Gallagher get a decent amount of game time today since that Italian ***t's gone missing again.
Saint_clark Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 I never change my opinion, I'm correct from the outset. He is however slightly better then Jos. I'd like to see Gallagher get a decent amount of game time today since that Italian ***t's gone missing again. OK, so you're an idiot. I shall ignore you from now on.
Lighthouse Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 But training is totally different to a match environment. Gazza has not once looked comfortable or confident, regardless of how well he does in training. If Gazza looks more capable in training, what makes you think Cropper will be better in a first team game? We shouldn't compromise a young lad's career by chucking him in when he isn't ready in some wild attempt to appease a short term injury crisis. We shouldn't have given Davis a new contract and should have signed someone better in summer. It's done now though so no point in moaning about it.
Lighthouse Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 I've never known a season of injuries like this one. It's relentless In 2004 we had all our strikers and all our 'keepers injured for a brief period. Ended up with Best and Blackstock up front and Keller on loan in goal.
Pastor Patrón Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 So what's wrong with Osvaldo this time?
S-Clarke Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 In 2004 we had all out strikers and all our 'keepers injured for a brief period. Ended up with Best and Blackstock up front and Keller on loan in goal. Ah yes, our relegation season. Cheerful comparison
nta786 Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 How about we get behind the team rather than moan! Jeeez :/
The Kraken Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 How about we get behind the team rather than moan! Jeeez :/ Yep, the negative energy on here could have a disastrous effect on the team's performance today FFS.
Saint Charlie Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 They will miss Medel and Taylor the left back is their Fox equivalent, can be got at. Turner is a good old fashioned CB but slow on the turn.
Badger Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Should be strong enough to get something. Only real weak link is Gazzaniga (as long as Yoshida isn't off form). Yoshida is a 'mistake per game' player, although not in the Hoiveld OG mould his lapses often gift chances away. Another defeat beckons Sad to say, I agree.
andybeal Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Yeah' date=' where's Osvaldo?[/quote'] Could he be suspended by Cortese for the Newcastle incident??
The Kraken Posted 26 December, 2013 Posted 26 December, 2013 Yeah' date=' where's Osvaldo?[/quote'] Not been seen since his fracas at Newcastle. Perhaps just a coincidence.
