What's eating Rickie?

Notwithstanding a below par performance today, by his own high standards, Rickie's reaction to scoring the equaliser seemed almost indifferent. I'm not trying to imply anything untoward, but I am genuinely interested in the views of anybody who might be able to explain his current malaise...

Looks like he's carrying an injury to me. We all know that when Rickie plays with a knock, his game tumbles. He seems unable to make a jump at the mo, and his strength has reduced massively in the last few weeks.

This is coinciding with an obvious drop in general form too, as his touch has gone down the toilet! It's probably the worst period he's had for us in the time he's been here, but he's earned quite a lot of leyway before anyone is on his back!

Most likely explanation. In a way I hope that's the reason and that it's not something affecting his attitude because the spark just wasn't there. His touch was indeed poor, which is unusual for him, even when he's not been at his best. He also missed an opportunity with an early free kick to put it high into the strong sunshine and give cap less Lloris a problem. Just didn't seem to be on his game today.

This is just another sign of the incredible journey we've made. Today we're asking what's eating Rickie, three years ago we were asking what Rickie's eating.

Good point. Although most attributed his 'rotund' appearance three years ago to a poor pre season with Pardew.

Perhaps one of his children or another close family member is not very well ?

Now that would stuff up most normal people. :(

Maybe he has heard rumours that Saints want to sell him and he doesn't want

to leave so by playing not at his best no-one will try to buy him ? The opposite

of how some players wanting a new contract play well until the new contract is

signed then they go off.

At the end of the day it isn't really anything to do with supporters it's between the

player and club.

I reckon he's holding back to nearer the World Cup before making a concerted effort to win a place on the plane to Brazil. I also believe Pochettino's doing his head in as well as one or two others.

I stated weeks back we need to score goals otherwise we'd drop down the league. We're slowly losing the plot and the Christmas games will show just how good Pochettino is. He came unstuck today big time. Had a strong team been played we could have won this game. To hell with saving players for Thursdy. It doesn't work like that.

Only Adam emerged unscathed from the England odyssey, as JRod has faltered too.

Jay Rodriguez has been completely the opposite. Has come back fresh with something to prove. Lallana has been ok too. it's just Lambert who has returned in such poor shape. Reckon it's just an injury, as he did pick up one whilst on duty.

All too easy to pin his performances on injuries - his form has been a concern since the end of last season.

Obviously meant to be our back up striker this season but Osvaldo's injuries and lapses have made that impossible. Lambert just doesn't last 90 minutes any more and as we've nothing much else just now he fades after an hour or so. Lee has been chucked into the bin again and that just leaves us with Gallagher in reserve when Osvaldo is absent. All these promising lads being introduced to the first team group is well and good but if MPo doesn't have confidence in them it just serves to veil the truth. Yesterday we were down to the bare bones and i'm sure that there were players on the bench to make up the numbers. Can't see us introducing Reed to the PL at any time soon, Isgrove seems to have disappeared from view, perhaps he's injured though and Guly isn't ready yet. Leaves us nothing else so what we put onto the pitch in each game of late is what we have. We have players who aren't fit on the pitch and on the bench, due to our card situation we have a half fit player holding back in case he gets another yellow, the situation is far from desirable and so we have to play Lambert.

Lambert hasn't been as good since Adkins left. It could be two reasons:he's not playing in same position, and our pressing game is too much for him at 32!

Or he's just gone past his best.

Under Adkins though we played to his strengths. Not saying Adkins was better manager but he got more out if him in terms if goals and creation.

To be fair though, Rickie is still doing better than some of these so called big names bought over the summer:

Norwich spent big on Ricky-whathisname - Hasn't done a thing

Swansea spent big on Bony - Scored a couple in europe, but zilch impact in the PL really.

Tottenham spent big on Soldado - rubbish return for £28m. Missed 2 sitters yesterday too.

We spent big on Osvaldo - zero impact.

Sunderland spent about £6m on Altidore - yes 6 frigging million on that - horrendous impact.

West Ham signed Carroll for a big fee - Injured all year so far.

The only ''new signing'' strikers I'd say who have been a success would be Negredo, Remy (he's on loan though) and Lukaku (also on loan). Other than that, clubs have had a pretty woeful return for their money so far.

;)

He's certainly not on his game, but he can turn it around. His miss near the end was not 'woeful', it came at him quick and certainly wasn't an easy shot to control

but Suarez would have sunk it with his eyes shut right? When you're England's number 9 or Saints number 7 you have to be as good as the best.:)
