kwsaint Posted 22 December, 2013 Share Posted 22 December, 2013 Another abject performance. His positioning is dreadful. Adebayor stuck down the right for obvious reasons. Saint Fan CaM Posted 22 December, 2013 Share Posted 22 December, 2013 Gazzanogood is the worst keeper I have ever seen in a Saints shirt...simple dreadful and you cannot blame Fox for most of today's shocking errors. OK Fox may not be good enough for this level as a first starter, but he did enough to be show he is an OK squad player. Gazzanogood is nowhere near good enough to be worthy of even a bench place. Not necessarily further forward, but at least 10 paces to the left to stop them playing a ball into space for the wide player to run on to. Standing next to Jos seemed, to me, a bit pointless and allowed them to easily switch the play into a dangerous area. Compare that to the crossfield balls we played that were mostly cut out by the full back.

Alain Perrin Posted 22 December, 2013 Share Posted 22 December, 2013 History tells us Fox can be a liability but today Danny Fox had a good game. He's no world beater but today avoided any calamities, got forward well and did his job. Personally, I think Jos was the bigger problem. Several times he was caught out of position and Fox filled in for him (only for Spurs to exploit the LB position. I think with Fox, Jos and Gazza collectively the defense lacks confidence and that really hurt us today. Wes Tender Posted 22 December, 2013 Share Posted 22 December, 2013 Apart from his direct run towards their box which resulted in our first goal, Fox was otherwise totally crap. There were acres of space to our left flank for Spurs to exploit and they gleefully availed themselves of every opportunity. It must be common knowledge for every manager with any nous that when we play him, he is the weak link. Unfortunately Rodriguez offered him little protection, which didn't help. There was one time when my count of the goals that Spurs should have scored reached 6, but thankfully they missed some chances where it would almost have been easier to score.Their defence was also pretty dire, but ours was even worse. There was probably no better time to have played them, but with Hooiveld and Fox playing, we blew it. If Pochettino plays either of them again, then one will have to seriously question his tactical ability. Enough is enough.

ART Posted 22 December, 2013 Share Posted 22 December, 2013 Fox did okay today and doesn't deserve the constant witch hunt. adrian lord Posted 22 December, 2013 Share Posted 22 December, 2013 Gazza was worse than Fox. Rooted to his line, and when he occasionally strayed off it he got the angles wrong. Shocking. Special K Posted 22 December, 2013 Share Posted 22 December, 2013 I normally defend Fox as he's a good lad, but he had a poor game today. Running away from the striker for the first goal instead of trying to get in front / put him off, letting Adebayour through for his second when he should have tracked back until the danger was cleared - all pretty basic stuff really. He never got forward to support JRod / Lallana / Lambert on the left (apart from cutting in once for AL's goal) and when he did eventually forage past the half way line in the 2nd half, he didn't seem to interested in getting back. I can understand his head may drop when the petty name calling starts, but there were some really basic errors to his game today and all the defence (except Chambers) had the jitters. It showed that Chambers was more impressive in 15mins as a left back than Fox was for 75.

Rebel Posted 23 December, 2013 Share Posted 23 December, 2013 Fox is a truly terrible left back because he simply can't defend - he can't seem to tackle, when he gets forward he doesn't track back, his positioning is terrible, he drifts in to the middle all the time and he always seems to back off players and invite them to shoot or pass In the Championship it took teams 60 mins to work out he was useless - in the premier league it's takes teams 15 mins. Spurs were so bad it took them 25 mins I must admit when I saw the line up yesterday I thought we were going to loose 3-1 at the minimum. Garza, Jos and Fix are a fatal combination at this level. One of the biggest problems is neither Fox or Jos are very good at clearing the ball - they just head or hoof it forward when under any pressure so it comes straight back at us. A top class defender like Lovren will clear the ball to someone on the same team.
Wes Tender Posted 23 December, 2013 Share Posted 23 December, 2013 Seeing the light Wes?You've obviously missed all of the other posts in the past when I've been critical of Fox. I wasn't a fan of his, even in the Championship. At leat Hooiveld in the Championship used to contribute a few goals in the plus column as well as in the minus column. If he gets the opportunity to play further, he could end up our top scorer - for the opposition.
spyinthesky Posted 23 December, 2013 Share Posted 23 December, 2013 First of all anyone giving players stick should be ashamed All of us can get frustrated but to abuse your own players is counter productive and does nothing to enhance the individual's or the team's performance. That said I had tried to keep an open mind on Danny Fox, Jos and the keeper. All three were found wanting and I am sure this is recognised by the management team. It was very unfortunate that both first choice 'keepers were injured and were the two full backs plus the team's defensive midfielder. Both Jos and Yoshida have not looked secure playing alongside Lovren and again it is unfortunate that Fonte is carrying an injury. As regards Danny Fox, I recollect that Burnley fans reckoned he was Ok going forward but suspect defensively (during Burnley's short spell in the Prem) and were somewhat surprised that we paid such a large transfer fee for him (£1.8m?) for him. I reckon their comments were spot on It is eveident
