SaintNeil90 Posted 19 December, 2013 Share Posted 19 December, 2013 And look at the memories of the Wigan and Swansea fans, we still go on about 76, we cant dismiss the Cup its all we have, the League is nothing to me as we are never going to win it(thats another debate on the equality of football) it the cups we have concentrate, Champions League football? You're having a laugh. I'm talking about what the clubs what, not what us fans want! I didn't say we could get champions league football either, I said they should offer that as a prize for the FA CUP. Try reading!!
SaintNeil90 Posted 20 December, 2013 Share Posted 20 December, 2013 Fact of the matter is clubs prioritise the league, regardless of whether we'd prefer to win a cup or not. GET OVER IT!

Barry Sanchez Posted 20 December, 2013 Share Posted 20 December, 2013 Fact of the matter is clubs prioritise the league, regardless of whether we'd prefer to win a cup or not. GET OVER IT! We obviously understand that but it does not stop us debating what a poor decision it was and is on a football forum, it makes it even more of a debating point when people disagree, another good point of a forum though some dont see it that way. CB Fry Posted 20 December, 2013 Share Posted 20 December, 2013 Fact of the matter is clubs prioritise the league, regardless of whether we'd prefer to win a cup or not. GET OVER IT! I think we all understand that. Thanks. That said part of my concern with this issue is the relish and pleasure some fans seem to tale from the prospect of finishing, say, seventh, over a trophy or a Wembley trip. It might be the way of the world, but fans don't have to lap it up quite so meekly. Just because Sky Sports say it doesn't make it so. And anyway, someone needs to tell Alan Pardew who specifically said he wanted to win the League Cup this season.
OldNick Posted 20 December, 2013 Share Posted 20 December, 2013 This is dull, but just because you are embarrassingly wrong twice.... 1) I've said where I think we'll finish this season plenty of times: 8-10th. Not changed since the summer. So you're wrong there. 2) I haven't been "going on about weakened teams" you have. I've only talked about one match. One. Just you extrapolating it all out to form pointless strawman arguments. Just you. My final point is this. People are on here telling me to cheer up. Well, I think Saints can finish top ten, probably eighth, and do well in a cup, even win one, this season. Definitely. Everything in place to do that in 2013-14. We don't get many seasons like that. Miserable people call that "naive", don't they Oldnick? Mm But I think, all in all that's a nice optimistic and realistic aspiration for the team I support. I think those quoting pounds and pence and those calling the League Cup "small fry" are the miserable gits, but hey ho. If you like totting up millions of pounds against league places, Fill yer boots. Have fun. Get your kids to join in too. More fun than going to Wembley I'm sure. every football fan wants their team to win cups, but at the same time accept there are limitations to the squad and it can only do so much. If I had the choice of 5 th or the LC and mid table I would take the cup in a heartbeat. My standpoint has been an understanding why the club played the weakened side and so I get on with it. When we are more established again in this league my aspirations will become greater in the cup competitions . as for you cheering up, I think the post above is as close as it gets for you although, I did see a sign that you can be amusing in the Pompey take over saga. Happy Christmas and I hope it is a good one

Why does it "concern" you what other people think? I disagree with lots of other people's opinions but i don't feel concerned about it. That's the beauty of different opinions. They're all valid. concern kənˈsəːn/ verb make (someone) anxious or worried. synonyms:worry, disturb, trouble, bother, perturb, unsettle, make anxious, distress, upset, agitate, cause disquiet to

OldNick Posted 20 December, 2013 Share Posted 20 December, 2013 HOW MANY TIMES? IF WE HAD WON AT SUNDERLAND WE WOULD GO DOWN. FFS I think you should concentrate on the pasty saga Turkish, I dont think anyone said we would go down if we won at Sunderland. Please post someone who said that
havasack Posted 20 December, 2013 Share Posted 20 December, 2013 So you would rather watch a tournament featuring the Champions of Iceland, Moldova and Montenegro but left out Real Madrid, Arsenal and Dortmund? I would. The reason Real Madrid, Arsenal and Dortmund are now as big as they are is because they are guaranteed more revenue because of the Champs league. I much preferred when the likes of Bruges and Malmo could reach the final. Not a chance now, the Champions League is a closed shop designed to help theose in it pull away from everybody else. The Champions League would ruin a lot of domestic leagues if we had it that way. For example let's say Levadia Tallinn won the Estonian League and were automatically in the CL group stages, they would just spend all the extra money they earned buying out all the best players from the rest of the league as nobody else would come close to their budget. As a result they would pretty much dominate the league indefinitely. As it is all the champions get a chance at the CL, it's just that most of them get knocked out in the qualifying rounds. Some of the teams you would rather see instead of Dortmund and Arsenal aren't there because they got beaten 11-0 on agg. by Celtic in the qualifying round. Watching those teams play Barcelona and Bayern would make for pretty sh*t viewing.

I'd also get rid of seeding, if Bayern get Barcelona in the first round then so be it.
