So thoughts on the Saints trio going to Brazil? Betvictor: Lambert - 13/8 Lallana - 9/4 Rodriguez - 6/1 Personally I'm really tempted to lay a load of money down on Lallana. Main worry in my opinion is injury rather than Hodgson not selecting him. But heh, there's always a chance he'll pick Ashley Young for no reason whatsoever instead but I really think Lallana has done enough to warrant a place. KK the 2nd Posted 17 December, 2013 Share Posted 17 December, 2013 I had a bet on Lallana at 7/2 a couple of months ago, so sitting pretty. Still less likely to go than not though.
Dr Who? Posted 17 December, 2013 Share Posted 17 December, 2013 Lallana will go if not injured. Not sure about the other 2, but expect jrod to go more than lambert. Shame!
trousers Posted 17 December, 2013 Share Posted 17 December, 2013 If I was to put a bet on Lallana, would my bet be refunded if he doesn't go due to injury rather than due to non-selection? A bit like a non-runner in a horse race?

Dig Dig Posted 17 December, 2013 Share Posted 17 December, 2013 Still amazing at we have at least 3 players in contention for the WC. If someone had said as much a year ago, they would have been called a mental happy clappy deluded wally.

SNSUN Posted 17 December, 2013 Share Posted 17 December, 2013 Of the three, my money would be on Lallana getting there, but I won't rule out Rickie if he has a storming second half of the season. Are we completely ruling Shaw out? Surely England is an injury or two away from seeing him get a call up? Who are his competitors, Baines, Cole and Gibbs? Rose? CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 17 December, 2013 Share Posted 17 December, 2013 I suspect that young lad from Everton may be more of a threat to Adam than Ashley Young is ... what the hell, just take both of them Roy! SRL really needs to get on the score sheet more often this season if he wants to secure a berth.

Are we completely ruling Shaw out? Surely England is an injury or two away from seeing him get a call up? Who are his competitors, Baines, Cole and Gibbs? Rose? I'm pretty sure Shaw has at least a 1:3 chance of going - Cole's been injured forever and may well miss out, and then it's between Shaw and Gibbs. If Baines gets injured as well (as he currently is), Shaw and Gibbs will be dead certainties.
The9 Posted 17 December, 2013 Share Posted 17 December, 2013 Lallana looks very comfortable, but I'd take Barkley instead of someone like Lampard as well, what's to gain by taking Lampard when the focus should be on building a new system and personnel for the next Euros? England's problem is a lack of competent defensive midfielders, they've got loads of attacking ones. We can't help them with that for as long as Schneiderlin stays French. It's the World Cup. Building a new system for the Euros comes when this tournament's out of the way!
pezza Posted 17 December, 2013 Share Posted 17 December, 2013 I personally think both Clyne and Chambers are better than Johnson and Walker. England do not have good enough centre halves to have a RB with the positional sense of a flip flop and the concentration span of a fruit fly like Johnson and Walker. England's problem is a lack of competent defensive midfielders, they've got loads of attacking ones. We can't help them with that for as long as Schneiderlin stays French. Ive long since agreed with this way of thinking, that is, building a new team for the next big tournament but the WC is the big tourney. Considering we have got this far we may aswell take Lamps if we have to now (although I find Gerrard to be far more versatile) From a Saints POV Lallana barring an injury is a dead cert IMO, Id expect a bit of a media campaign should his form keep up J Rod - Doubtful unless an injury to Welbeck or Sturridge Id of thought, a good player who has kicked on again since his cap. Its a shame but I dont think he was ready for his first cap but I think he would be better now. JWP - I honestly think he has something to offer in the next squad but not at the WC Shaw - An injury to either first choice LB and he is there a dead cert for the post WC rebuild Clyne - probably should be there ahead of a poor walker this year Rickie - A definate option for England, unfortunately he seems to fit the lions better than us right now
Appy Posted 18 December, 2013 Share Posted 18 December, 2013 I really think Lallana is a shoe in, I think Lambert will make it. The others have a chance, but only if there are injuries.

Saint_Tony Posted 12 February, 2014 Share Posted 12 February, 2014 The thing is theres already tok many midfielders who will definitely get picked - Gerrard, Lampard, Milner, Wilshere. Then players like Henderson, Cleverley (hope not), Barkley and Oxlade-Chamberlain .It doesn't leave much space. I think Lallana, Lambert and J Rod will make the provisional 30, Lallana 80% chance of making the 23, Lambert 50%, J Rod 10%

Baird of the land Posted 12 February, 2014 Share Posted 12 February, 2014 He is the type of player England don't have. Could be the David Batty of the next World Cup Agree though I'd prefer to call him the Hargreaves of the next World Cup. Will require bravery to leave underperforming names such Wilshere, Lampard, cleverly etc at home. Really hope Hodgson surprises me and shows bravery. He may as well be brave and creative with his selection. England managers don't last too long after major tournaments, it's like he has nothing to lose.
