Trying to get a top striker and also in talks with Saints over Rickie Lambert, implies that he isn't a top striker doesn't it ?
Mr Saints Posted 6 January, 2014 Share Posted 6 January, 2014 Apparently they are close to signing Lacina Traore on loan, he's a target man, good player. Oh, and they've signed Roger Johnson.
St Chalet Posted 6 January, 2014 Share Posted 6 January, 2014 It sounds like WHU are prepared to offer strong money and it sounds like a good deal. However I think it will have a big impact on our season as I don't think we can replace RL easily in January. On balance, I'd decline their offer. Colinjb Posted 6 January, 2014 Share Posted 6 January, 2014 Like the way people just say 'assuming we find a replacement'. We spent £15m on a good player, but he's nowhere near Lambert's use. You're losing commitment, strength, technique, touch, passing, penalties, set pieces and a great role model. Not exactly easily replaceable, and impossible in the January window. I see it like this too.
BARCELONASAINT Posted 6 January, 2014 Share Posted 6 January, 2014 This is how i see it.....Saints are not interested in selling RL. However if WH were to make us a silly offer and give RL a big last pay day i think the club might be inclined to say to Rickie that they will not stand in his way if its what he wants out of respect for the service he has given us. I think the club would put the ball firmly in Rickies court....for the club its a win win situation....they are not seen to force Rickie out, indeed the opposite and they get a decent fee. The downside is off course we lose a very influential player on the pitch and off!

Take a look around League 1 and find another striker we could buy for the same price that would score regularly in the Prem and get picked for England. What we paid for him is irrelevant, it's what he is currently worth to the team that is the season defining point.

No, it's not my job to, I'm not a football scout and since none of the proposed signings could be validated either way it'd be utterly pointless. What we paid for him is entirely relevant as it shows you don't have to blow the bank to get a good player.

Then when we do sign expensive flops you're not allowed to criticise them as they cost lots of money so are clearly really good and we've just been blinded by our days struggling in the lower leagues and aren't used to seeing such quality footballers. It's certainly interesting that Moyes has said in plain terms that the player they want isn't available. He must have got a very firm no. And as tough as Cortese might be, I can't imagine he'd give up that quickly with Southampton or that Lallana or Shaw would be the one player he's after. A little group of naughty boyz certainly want us to lose each game.. Totally slag off our players and staff:x Show total disrespect to the real supporters. Run to the mods every five minutes:mcinnes: when challenged:mcinnes: Very frustrating not to call them names:D I suppose they can crack one off with their silly little games. Like me their are more and more posters turning away from these Waaaankers:( Totally agree, anyone who is so negative and critical about everything has to be a non Saints fan. It does not make sense at all as the whole point of being a supporter is to support. I think the mods really do need to pull their finger out now and come down hard on these people as quite frankly every thread is the same now. Infested with the same 2 or 3 people who try and come across like they know everything about the club (even though they never go to any games ever). If it stays like this I will be one of them. I think a lot of people who frequent this tiny corner of cyberspace would feel relieved if saintsweb just vanished one day. Kaput! The sad WUMs would contemplate taking their own lives (if they had one I take). For the rest of us the suffering would be over. It's like watching a dying relative in hospital. You force yourself to go up and see them, knowing its a lost cause, trying to keep your/their spirits up. But in the end death beckons us all.
