Lambert to West Ham Rumour

I'm long enough in the tooth to take most of these stories with a pinch of salt, but does anyone really know ....if there is ANY truth in this?.

 

Even if Rickie was interested he's hardly be likely to say so - and would he even admit it?

 

To say that he is being offered 65K a week....Where does a figure like that come from...? and whose making the offer ?...the Mirror journo' .or ?

reminds me of the Billy Connolly sketch ..it sounds like a committee decided that

 

The only " committee " I can think of at Wham is Messers Gold and Sullivan?.. if so it's the same as " tapping up " a player and sidestepping the legal procedures by going behind the club's back.

 

So either Wham are using the Mirror as a sounding board for an illegal approach.....or the Mirror man is making up the whole thing.

 

Doesn't the truth mean anything anymore...or is this just " Football".. washing its linen in public ?

Illegal approaches?? Not sure whether it is or not. But the one that got me, was Ashley Cole saying that he would love to see Luke Shaw at Chelsea. Getting players to tap up (or sound out) other players seems to be the way of doing it these days.

All sounds like bog standard tactics from "The International Player's Guide To Getting More Money" to me. Can't see anyone paying him 65 or 70K a week and certainly not West Ham. If I was Lambert now I'd be recalling to treatment loyal former Saints have been given under Cortese and his way of writing off players. 10 years ago Sam took a fading Saints striker , motivated him and gave him 10 good years playing for Bolton in the Premier League and earning an England cap. If that kind of money is really being offered, Ricky should go for it and put sentiment and previous thoughts of ending his career with Saints aside.

Sam prefers having two big strikers up front so Ricky and Carroll could and would both being playing.

Sam hasn't played 2 up front in all his time at West Ham. Maybe for the odd game but not consistently. He has to fit in that bellend Nolan somewhere, and plays with two wingers so he plays one up top who is alive when they punt it in the mixer.

it may sound like a clever move, but if Sam were to get the boot, a new manager might not want to use RL regularly, and Rickie might find himself on the bench.... in the NPC next season.

I was back from footer and every thread I read seems to be full of these type posters...spoiling/derailing topic.

 

More and more I talk to ...not even bothering to post or debate subjects anymore..

I still think we miss Lambert so badly when he isn't in the team. Even when he doesn't play well he can still pop up with an assist or a goal and keeps the defenders busy which allows our deeper players more time/space on the ball. I imagine The majority of Jay Rod's goals have come when Lambert has been playing.

Rickie's goal-scoring record (so far) already puts him in the top 10 of Saints' all-time goalscorers.

 

If he can retain a reasonable level of fitness, he could be worth a bench place for several seasons to come.

 

Teddy Sheringham, Kevin Phillips and Kevin Davies all kept a good standard way into their mid 30's - so why talk about ditching RL so quickly?

 

Fitness is the real key; it cost us the services of MLT and Pahars far too early .

There's something not right about Lambert...seen the same body language on other players that want out, but there may be other factors at play too. As good as Lambert has been for the club, he is not bigger than the club and I suspect he will get side-lined if he places squad harmony at risk.

While MP has a preference for Osvaldo, he's not been dogmatic in it -first he attempted to accommodate Lambert and Osvaldo and second he had no qualms in dropping Osvaldo in favour of Lambert (clearly suspensions and injuries have also helped).

 

The idea that Lambert doesn't thrive in MP's scheme is also s***e. Lambert may be asked to work harder but the positions he taking up are not significantly different from those under Adkins or Pards. Lambert has always peeled off to the flanks and dropped deep.

IF the stories are true and that he is to be offered twice what he is on, I wonder what relegation clause would be inserted into his contract? Often it is half, so he would be back to where he is at the moment, and at a club with huge huge debts. Relegation is a very real possibility, as the whole team seems to have lost it's fight and not be up for it. If there would be a relegation clause, what would he make?

 

10% signing on fee so say £800k, although £8m seems quite a lot.

An extra £30k a week for say 20 weeks ( until relegation )

 

Total if the real possibility of relegation happens of £1.4m which after tax is more like £700k. Then build in image rights and the such, and whether exposure in PL will be more than those from a WHU possibly in Championship etc etc. So all in all, not the best proposition in the world, especially given the manager's precarious position. While £65k a week would be a final pay day, £35k a week isn't really too bad a wage to be on.

I am a great fan of RL but at the same time understand that if we got an offer in the region of 8-10m we might take it. There are many on here who dont rate him anyway, but when he is gone they will see what we had.

I would like him to stay without any hesitation but if we can get big money for an aging player who doesnt play all 90 mins then it is business sense

West Ham United Joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold have written an open letter to Hammers fans

 

Like all West Ham United supporters we feel frustrated and hurt by our recent results. We understand how you feel and we, the Board, feel the same.

 

It is never enjoyable being knocked out of a Cup competition and losing by such a large scoreline to a lower division side is hard to take for us all. We thought the youngsters gave their all and did not stop trying but in the end Nottingham Forest's experience proved too much for us.

 

I know Sam would have loved to have put out a more varied side, with our talented youngsters accompanied by more senior players in the starting XI. But many key players are out injured and Sam has been handed a near impossible task of coming through three crucial games in the space of six days with a squad of only 14 fit and available senior players. This is not an excuse it is a fact. We know Sam has not lost his ambition or desire and is committed to making West Ham United a great Premier League Club.

 

We now face a Capital One Cup semi-final on Wednesday followed by a vital Barclays Premier League trip to Cardiff on Saturday. Despite an extremely difficult draw, we are determined to do all we can to get to the Capital One Cup final over two legs with Manchester City. We hope to have several of our missing players back in time for Cardiff and we go there knowing that a win can get us out of the bottom three. Such is the nature of the Premier League this season; there are only six points between us and the team in 13th place.

 

Make no mistake, though; we are under no illusions as to the seriousness of our current predicament in the Premier League. But on the Board we have a combined talent of running football clubs and we will draw on all of our nous to get West Ham United out of this situation.

 

We have experienced difficult times before and we know what will get us results - hard work, determination and perseverance. To that end, we are all working round the clock to do everything in our powers to help arrest our slump in form.

 

Our first priority is to get our key players fit. Our record signing Andy Carroll continues to make good progress following his return to first-team training and he should be back on the pitch very soon along with Hammer of the Year Winston Reid and our other missing central defenders, James Tomkins and James Collins. Trust us, Andy Carroll is desperate to play and is ready to do his bit for the team and we are confident that the return of all of our injured players will lead to an upturn in our fortunes.

 

Thereafter, our second priority is to bring in the new talent needed to bolster our squad in the most needed areas. January is not an easy time to do business but we are pleased to confirm we are close to securing one of our key striking targets. A defender is high on the list of priorities as well and progress is being made on that front.

 

Despite our difficulties, what has remained consistent throughout the past few weeks and months is the unwavering level of support you have shown for the team home and away. We took over 3,000 fans to Fulham on New Year's Day and nearly the same number again to Nottingham on Sunday. That has been a constant and successful theme since our record-breaking season under Sam in 2011/12 and I know everyone at the Club is extremely grateful for the unique backing you provide to the team every week.

 

Following the Cardiff fixture, we have two more vital games in January before a hugely significant February, which has three massive home games. We will go into those games with a much-improved squad and we remain confident that we can turn our season around.

 

Whilst we have exceeded expectation off the pitch this year, by providing the Olympic Stadium and financial stability by taking personal responsibility for the Club's inherited debts of £100 million, we know that quality on the pitch is more important to you.

 

We have 103 employees that directly relate to the football teams, but we also have 477 colleagues who work behind the team across all areas of the Club. All of these people are key to our success. We continue to invest in the development of their future by ensuring that West Ham United remains a great place to work.

I saw no goodbye but this is my worry too, that the club may be interested in cashing in on West Ham's desperation, subject to getting the right replacement, yet Lambert wants to stay and, like any player, needs to feel that the club wants him to stay.

The only comfort I take in this whole rumour is that IF RL is off to West Ham,we have a fantastic Striker lined up and will be announcing it in the next week or so
