qwertySFC Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 SRL will indeed finish his career @ SMS - As if he would even consider moving to a struggling team desperate to stay in the premier league.
Smirking_Saint Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 1. He will be too expensive for them 2. I cant see him going to WHU anyway 3. Saint Garrett Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 Would expect him to want to finish his career with us, but if he's not playing then he might consider to leave. He has to play to stand a chance of going to Brazil. We'd be stupid to let him go though.

Smirking_Saint Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 There would be a value on his head, there was I believe last year. It would be large though, and as others have said he is happy and I imagine we are too so in reality Allardyce can be as interested as he wants, he wont get him. Graffito Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 He would score goals for them and the goals could cement a World Cup squad place at the expense of his main rival Andy Carroll. Cortese would drive a hard bargain but West Ham are desperate and RL is 32 in January. The ingredients are there for this to be a possibility. Why might he not go? Maybe RL is settled and really does want to finish at Saints. Does he want to get relegated after two seasons in the PL, maybe never to return. Above all, we don't have a replacement and any replacement would cost a premium in January.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Heart says no, but bald head says yes. If Fat Sam is desperate and will pay over the odds and Nicola invests the money in a younger forward , why would anyone object. Bill Shankly used to get rid when players had tipped slightly over the top of the hill. There's no place for sentiment in the board room or dug out, sentiment is for supporters only. Looks to me like sentiment cost us a decent back up keeper. If MP and Nicola think its worth doing the deal, then they need to do it.

John Boy Saint Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 17th position in the Premiership 1 point above the dotted line, and you are soon to move into a 54,000 seater stadium. Championship football is the last thing Gold Sullivan and Brady want or can afford. They have a £17m Pit Pony, who's hold up play is the kingpin to BFS's style of play, and he is laid up lame in the stable. Rickie is the obvious target in that Kevin Davies at Bolton role, big, hard gets stuck in, holds the ball up well sets up other team mates, a perfect fit in the Rufty Tufty West Ham style, and now he has a bit of finesse added in. They would have have to lay down some pretty serious money before NC would consider coming to the negotiating table, and that for a 30 something will show how desperate West Ham are to stay in amongst the riches of the Premiership. Still another story built on assumptions with a place in the England squad to Brazil underpinning it.
Bearsy Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 He would score more goals for West Ham I reckon cos Allardyce would let him go into the penalty box occasionally.
DuncanRG Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 He'd absolutely smash it at West Ham. I hope it doesn't happen and doubt it will but if he thinks it'll get him the games he needs to get into the World Cup squad then I wouldn't deny him that chance. I'm not sure the club would either, in all honesty, but we'd have to get a good forward in and that might be difficult/costly.
dronskisaint Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 In terms of quality of football, quality of life, quality of manager, quality of fans, quality of appreciation - why on earth would Ricky want to make a step down? He has waxed lyrical about the quality of Saints training, medical and sports science staff and the way the whole set-up has changed his physique, approach and above all, success...I think a polite scouse 'Do one' would suffice as an answer! Paired with Carroll who isnt as bad as people make out would be a pretty disruptive front line and one that would cause problems to most defences TBH That said we wouldnt let him go for under 5mil and personally Id stay firm at 10mil. Wint happen though
Cabrone Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 I can see the logic of this one, Wham need firepower and Ricky would slot in as a direct Carroll replacement. Even if Wham had to pay a lot for a 32 year old if it meant they stayed up then the investment would have been seen as worth it. With Ossie and JRod increasingly taking over Ricky might think about jumping. Would be a damn shame for us but it's not beyond the realms of possibility. Lukaku will be a chelsea player next year. He is basically a young model of DD, Jose wont let him leave unless RL forces his decision which of course he wont. Also there isnt a hope he would join us unless we secure top 4 which we wont. If he isnt at chelsea, which he will be, he will play for another decent CL team. CanadaSaint Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 As I watched Rickie trudge off - alone, somewhat disconsolately and before the rest of our squad - after the Man City game (he didn't get on until the 77th minute and Osvaldo scored a cracker), my first thought was that he's not as happy here as he was. When I saw that Allardyce said last week that Carroll is "weeks and weeks and weeks behind schedule", my first thought was that he's coming in for Rickie. They may well view him as not just a good player but as their key to PL survival, which increases the price they'd be willing to pay. And I've never shaken the feeling that MP was not as thrilled as everyone else with Rickie's England call up and subsequent success, no matter what he said in public. That turn of events would only make it more difficult for him to do what I think he really wants to do - move on from the Rickie era in our playing style. I love Rickie and everything he's done for us and everything he brings to us, but I'm preparing myself for him to go.
