Last season I wasn't convinced but he seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds. Now the third top English Premier League scorer behind Rooney and Sturridge, and looks to me like another player who's gained a yard or two of pace. Would be strange in my view if Lambert made the England party and he didn't.

He's a class act, but you just needed to be patient with him. His game is based on confidence, he looks a shell of the player when he's low on confidence....but when he's on fire, he's unbelievably good and he could easily be our focal point for years. He's the only player we have in the final third with a burst of pace and unpredictability.

Written off by many last year and gone on to be a star performer, probably our third best player next to Lallana and Lovren.

Don't remember many writing him off, are you sure you don't mean the many posts that said he needed to score more, which were fair enough, until very recently his scoring rate was worse than Ramirez. I would say that in a team that has high possession and creates a lot of scoring opportunities, he has needed to deliver more goals and now he seems to be, which is why he is now getting the praise.

Nothing wrong with people saying a player should deliver, then being pleased when he does. There's no turn-around in opinion there.

The next step for jrod is to start bagging braces of goals

I thought that too. Seems to have found the net recently but yet to properly impose himself on a game with more than one goal.

Definitely improving as a player and u hope Roy doesn't give up on him because of one poor performance against an excellent Chile team. Has a lot to offer England but I fear the much less consistent Welbeck will be chosen ahead if him.

Still not too sure on him, he scores goals I know but he never appears to play that well

Reminds me a lot of Welbeck, frustrating at times as he will mix in moments of pure brilliance with moments where he should have made a key pass or taken heavy touches.

Both of which work very hard aswell to the overall benefit of the team.

More and more I see the potential in J Rod and think we could have a very good player on our hsnds.

Seems to drift in and out of games, but has been outstanding for us ever since his England call-up. He has a striker's instinct to use his pace and nip into areas where he can create chances for himself, as demonstrated by his poacher's goal at Chelsea, and that is something we appeared to be missing last season.

I really believe we should be using him as the lone striker up top because he has the ability to make runs behind the defence that Lambert doesn't have.

From a defensive point of view its easier to mark someone up top on their own then driving from deep, I like him where he is, hassling, defending and breaking from deeper positions.

He fits in well with Poch's system. The high pressing creates chances where you gain possession high up the pitch, with the other sides defense out of shape. JRod's quick enough to bury the ball before they recover--more so than any of our other attackers.

Love it when he runs at defenders at pace with the ball at his feet. So often gets past the defender without any skill. Just keeps it close to his feet and taps it past them.

I suppose that is skill though....

He almost seems like he never actually has the ball under control, despite the fact he clearly does.

Big fan of J-Rod. Think he has been criminally under-rated on here for some time.

And those saying he wasn't written off or criticised last season are just wrong. There were people questioning why we signed him, calling him a waste of money, not good enough, and some even said we would be lucky to get half of our out late back on him. Granted, some of this was from the same people that just cannot seem to fathom that not every single player signed will be a hit from the absolute get-go.

It was probably fair to say he should have got a few more last season. And he is doing that this season. Already 6 league goals, and not even half way through the season yet. Could get to around the 15 mark, which for someone not playing as an out and out striker, without the help of pens/free-kicks I'd say that's a decent return.

Still a few years til he is at his peak too. G'warn Jay!

ABSOLUTELY ! ......Adkins started him wide on the left last season and he really looked lost (as indeed he did in hid England debut) - but going full pelt down the middle he's quite a handful for defences.

looks a totally different player this season.

Jrod is a very good player. He is very competent at EPL level. Only a few more things and he will be England International class. Imo just needs mental help and to refine some technical skills. Physically he's got a great engine plus can accelerate away with ball at feet which is a great attribute an i think the current set up suits him now better than before. His break- outs with the ball in opponents half are very dangerous indeed and I'm sure feared by the opponents. I think he will play for England eventually but not this WC unless there's a load on injuries.

Was very worried when he got called up for England. Feared that a bad game/reaction could impact on his confidence and set him back.

Happy to say I was wrong. It seems to have given him that real belief. 7 goals already.

He will get better as well.

Will enjoy reading the JRod out threads from last season over the summer.

It's been said before but he will be the long-term replacement for Lambert. I just hope he is bending Rickie's ear constantly in order to improve and take the best part's of Lambert's game and add them to his own. I think he will be some player in 2-3 years time with all that prem experience behind him. As above, in full flow, he is exciting, direct and gets bums off seats! Clearly loves it down here now too which is important as he seems a great lad and moving away from home was obviously tough for him. Love him to bits.
