studentsaint Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 Makes no sense. It would only solve the 'crisis' if we got him in now, not for 1 fa cup game. Doubt he'd be signed in time for new years day game and boruc and Davis are expected back for wba.
Olallana Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 That article is 3 days old and he would be available from january and I would think that´s pretty close to when Boruc will be back...
Turkish Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 Still an area we need to strengthen as Davis isn't up to it and Gazzanigna not yet ready, would be a very good signing.

Top signing, but wage demands would kill a deal possibly?
Olallana Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 True, but cant see it unless he agrees to cut his wages with 50-60% (unless QPR might agree to cover it just to lower their share of it)
OldNick Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 He has made a few changers, but. Of course if he plays for someone else he is always seen to be world class. Dig out the threads about Butland and see how the experts were creaming over him on here, then watch the goal he let in yesterday lol
Turkish Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 Anyone know what he's on? Was a strange signing by QPR. He came in a few weeks after they signed rob green on 60k a week.
Olallana Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 £90k/week according to this article and that´s the figure I´ve seen mentioned at other places... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/queens-park-rangers/10290288/Brazil-goalkeeper-Julio-Cesar-could-miss-2014-World-Cup-after-being-frozen-out-by-Queens-Park-Rangers.html
DT Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 He's excellent, and would push Boruc for his spot. And would fill a problem that's been a glaring one for years.
david in sweden Posted 15 December, 2013 Share Posted 15 December, 2013 Let's not think the eventual Boruc return will solve all the problems. If anything else were to happen we'd be back in the same boat....with Gazzaniga or KD. Which one would you choose ? Julio Cesar can just as well sit on our bench as he can at QPR.......and of course he give us a viable alternative to Boruc in case of loss of form etc.. 'arry only wants to keep Rob Green in the spotlight.. with the hope he'll get to Brazil as an alternative to Joe Hart.

Goalkeeper along with left back and centre back are positions that we don't have Premier standard cover for. We need a top class alternative to Boruc not necessarily as back up. The best keeper plays. To be top four/Champions League it's what we have to do. Evolution dictates that the weaknesses are removed in time and the cover is competition. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Can't see it happening if I am honest. Just doesn't seem like the type of signing we go for. Can't picture us willing to be paying those sort of wages for another keeper. Could be wrong, but I'd be pretty surprised if this happened. pap Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 He has been told to cut his wage demands if he wants to join. If he does, he stands a much better chance of going to the World Cup. http://www.footballfancast.com/football-news/southampton-tell-brazilian-to-lower-wage-demands?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
SuperMikey Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Not that Cesar would be a bad signing, but would like to see us go for somebody a bit younger. He is a quality keeper but not really a long-term option.

Pastor Patrón Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Stick with Casillas, he'd be a better option. Boruc is a nutcase anyway, we could do with a new first choice keeper.
Mowgli Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Would rather have Iker Casillas if he is available. That said, i can't help feeling there is an element of panic here. Boruc will be back soon. Davis is a good deputy for one more year and Gazza seems to be growing in confidence with each game.
Baird of the land Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 He's a good keeper but i'd be confused if he came to be 2nd choice here behind Boruc considering the wages he'd be likely to be on & his need to be playing regularly in a world cup year. Cabrone Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Decent back up option but would a 34 y.o international want to come here to sit on the bench most of the time? Would we want to pay his large wage demands? Pesonally I'd rather a younger, decent keeper but I guess they are hard to find. Has the academy got any GK starlets in the making? melmacian_saint Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Are people really suggesting we should go for Iker Casillas?!??!? Wow, some fans' ego really seems to be in need of a run of embarrasing defeats...

Giordano Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Good goalkeeper but a greedy so and so happy to sit on a bench for his £90k than get a bit less and play. He has turned down loads of good offers from Italy (Napoli for one) already so cant see him bothering with us as we wont give him £90kpw either. I reckon he was told hes a shoe in for the Rio WC as long as he is fit. Wont get injured sitting on a bench that's for sure.
pap Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Can't they just sort the wages thing with a higher signing on fee? Maybe a lower basic and a high clean sheet bonus would be the way to go.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 Can't they just sort the wages thing with a higher signing on fee? This ain't Football Manager mate. Will all still come out of SFC's coffers. The point of telling him to take a pay cut is that they don't want to spend that much on him.
CanadaSaint Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 I'm trying to wrap my mind around the thought of Redknapp and Cortese negotiating a transfer with eachother. Huffton Posted 16 December, 2013 Share Posted 16 December, 2013 If were serious about getting another keeper I reckon we should stick in a big bid for Begovic in January, Stoke are going nowhere, he might well come here if the money is right.
