Saint_clark Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 And we thought Adkins sacking was madness!
Wrensup Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Mental. What if they had won next week though. Silly.
stknowle Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 And we thought Adkins sacking was madness! Blimey Charlie. Didn't see that coming. Who d'you reckon they've got in mind to take over?
dronskisaint Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 I hope for their sake their chairman has the same foresight as ours and has someone better lined up. On the face of it madness is a mild description, he'll soon get snapped up!
Mikey88 Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Yeah I don't think we can judge them on this one. Be interesting to see how it pans out. I wonder if WBA have someone lined up similar to us?
RonManager Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Madness. They've stood the test of time, so fair play to them. Did I ever tell you about the time I met Suggsy?
Mikey88 Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Interesting article on there OS. Only 7 wins this calendar year, 31 points during that time. Thought he had done better than that.
Dr Who? Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 There was a 5 live article about 3 weeks ago saying how they are building something special and lasting at West Brom....... Jesus. They will be in trouble now!
Turkish Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 There is a post on thealbionweb right now where the person that once deceived Steve Clark as the new Alex ferguson is declaring him a clueless jock out of his depth.
Dr Who? Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Madness. But what if they get their own MP? Or Bryan Robson!
Matthew Le God Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 And we thought Adkins sacking was madness! WBA have only won 7 of their 34 games in this calendar year. What is odd is their official statement says... "despite a substantial investment in the first-team squad" Which is odd because WBA have been one of the relatively low spenders in the Premier League.

Killers Knee Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 25 points in 34 games in 2013, WBA forums are glad to see the back of him. Too much hoofball.
Lighthouse Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Obemwinge and Lukaku were always going to be hard to replace so their relatively poor form isn't too surprising. Agree though it's harsh on Clarke.
Dr Who? Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 You know what I think was the final nail in his coffin. The fact that they lost heavily last week and he let his players out on the lash, to let their hair down. Now this can go one of 2 ways, win you next game and it is great management giving you players their Christmas celebrations, or lose and it is irresponsible and showing a lack of respect to the fans who pay big money to watch their team. When he said, he liked the fact that the players were out drinking and singing in the streets, I remember thinking, they best win the next game.
Matthew Le God Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Games played in 2013 by the 17 teams that have been in the Premier League over the two seasons...
Bewildered Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Gone down well with at least one player... Saido Berahino @SBerahino 9m Wow i cant believe it, thats ****ing ****!!!!
John Boy Saint Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Blimey Greavsie's saying "It's a funny old game" still holds true today. Barking mad!
Smirking_Saint Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Not really that mad, he has had what 7 wins in about 40 games or something and lost a very good goalscorer in Lukaku and replaced him with who ? Nikolas Anelka ? He really hasnt done that well considering the improvements they have been making over the past few years. Also a few decent names on the doll at the moment. Coyle or RDM ?
Olallana Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Gone down well with at least one player... Did he sign a new contract or hasn´t it been done yet...?
Bewildered Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Did he sign a new contract or hasn´t it been done yet...? Signed a contract that lasts until 2017 a couple weeks ago.

I imagine I'm going to get some stick for this, but is RDM really that great? He was already sacked by WBA once. I know he has a Champions League on his CV, but c'mon how much of that was him. Terry, Drogba & Lampard were de facto managers really. FWIW I agree with the rest of your post. I think it's a shame, but there have been rumours about his position for a while. I seem to recall murmurs at the tail end of last season. He had a good start to last season, a v good start thanks to a decent counter attacking set-up and a good front line in Long & Lukaku. Long seems out of favour, Lukaku is gone now the have Anichebe & Anelka. Whilst they don't look anywhere near as steady. I'm not hugely surprised if I'm honest. Sad for the guy, I'm sure he'll find a new club, but this is football. They know what they are getting themselves in for. They get paid well to do it to. Imagine I'll get stick for that too.
paulwantsapint Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Just seen this on their wiki page "They are currently in talks with what some call 'a beast', who goes by the name Big J. He is a farley unknown figure in the footballing world, but has outstanding knowledge within the cider industry. Sources suggest that he is currently the manager of an unbeaten Sunday league youth side and his contract expires this summer. His first task will be teaching the offside rule to Shane Long, who clearly doesn't know what it is."" Good effort from 1 of their fans
Grey Crab Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Good. He was always the worst moderator on here. EDIT: Sorry, misread the title. Madness.
Dig Dig Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Probably sacked him to somehow stop his accelerated ageing process. It's for his own good!
ART Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Bet Sam has one of those heart attacks he has when results don't go well. Can't have long.

RDM is one of those managers, I personally think he is better then the stick thats used to beat him at times but certainly not what I would suggest is a CL winner. But hell, no matter what anyone says he was in charge of cheksea when they won it. He didnt do too bad, steadied the ship, and played on the animosity that AVB created (which was only what was asked of him apparantly) and gave the golden oldies another chance. Still, I agree, would WB take him back ? There are certainly worse options around. But all in all just before the next TW is an oppurtune time, get the new man in to assess and get some players in.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Meh. Can't stand the heat get out the kitchen. He always looked and sounded defeated to me.
david in sweden Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 I wonder who the WBA Board have got lined up to replace him ?....because if they don't have someone already waiting in the wings ?..they all need certifying. They may not be the best team in the League, but IMO he is one of the better managers.
Badger Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Not really that mad, he has had what 7 wins in about 40 games or something and lost a very good goalscorer in Lukaku and replaced him with who ? The bit in bold is a bit of a shocker to imagine frankly (and not sure how this qualifies them for the job anyway..). Agree about the loss of Lukaku, but I thought they spent big on someone from Everton Anichibe (?) or whoever. Can't see RDM going back there, and I don't see Coyle as an improvement to be honest.
CB Fry Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Basically had a lovely little six month honeymoon taking Hodgson's team on a blistering start to last season but has been appalling for a year and clear relegation form since January. Anyway, don't quite get Saints fans on here giving it the "the world's gone mad" routine. They are only following the Southampton way.
Chewy Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 From the outside it looks odd, but as we of all fans should know, if the board have decided he's not right he will be sent packing. If he's replaced quickly it will mean it's been planned. If it takes a while it will mean the Xmas party was the final straw so wasn't planned as much. Either way, timing is good. Couple of weeks to understand the squad before the January window. Be very interesting to see who they get.
Window Cleaner Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 I wonder who the WBA Board have got lined up to replace him ?....because if they don't have someone already waiting in the wings ?..they all need certifying. They may not be the best team in the League, but IMO he is one of the better managers. Wasn't Di Matteo at West Brom at one time ? He'd be my favourite for the job.
Badger Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Wasn't Di Matteo at West Brom at one time ? He'd be my favourite for the job. Yes, and sacked by them.
CB Fry Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Yes, and sacked by them. Quite. And it's not like it's a different Chief Exec. Why would either party go back? Really can't see it.
Tamesaint Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 After the first match of the season I had a couple of cheeky bets on them being relegated (7/1) and finishing bottom (20/1). I had rarely seen such a lacklustre team at the start of the season as WBA on that day. The subsequent purchase of the likes of Sessegnon seemed to sort out that problem but perhaps those bets are not the waste of money they seemed to be a couple of months ago.
Chewy Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Quite. And it's not like it's a different Chief Exec. Why would either party go back? Really can't see it. I agree, but he is the current favourite, which is mental. I wonder if Malky makay might fancy a move away from his mental chairman? Zola could be in the frame, though Watford are faltering of late. Other than them I'm struggling to think of many sensible candidates.
St Chalet Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Wasn't Clarke #2 at Chelsea in Mourinho's pomp? Maybe he will end up there again.
shirleysfc Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 I agree, but he is the current favourite, which is mental. I wonder if Malky makay might fancy a move away from his mental chairman? Shroppie Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Just realised we play them on Jan 11. Just time for the new manager effect to be in full flow.
beatlesaint Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 If only the Skates hadn't rushed into this Richie Barker signing......... :-D
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 15 December, 2013 Posted 15 December, 2013 Blimey Charlie. Didn't see that coming. Who d'you reckon they've got in mind to take over? MOPO
