Saints vs Spurs - Build Up

Lighthouse

Recommended Posts

Spurs lineup tonight:

Lloris; Walker, Chiriches, Capoue, Rose; Lennon, Dembele, Sigurdsson, Townsend; Adebayor, Defoe

A lot rested but some first-teamers in there. Shame Chiriches is back but he might not be able to play two in a week

More Tim Sherwood's idea of football than resting first teamers, all his old faves back in there, Adebayor,Defoe. I can only see Soldado missing, all the rest are either injured or suspended.

What are you talking about?

I'm saying ward prowse won't play. He's been poor recently. Taken off after 35 mins vs villa, poor vs Chelsea, okay against city but then withdrawn first half vs Newcastle. That's what I'm talking about. Still think he's class just don't think he will play sun.

Didn't see the Villa or Newcastle games but disagree he was poor against Chelsea and was excellent against Hull and City. Will definitely be in the team on Sunday IMO!

I'd be very surprised. Potch keeps taking him off early. Team will be:

Davis/Gazza

Clyne/chambers fonte lovren shaw

Cork Morgan

Lallana s Davis j rod

Lambert

He wasn't poor vs Villa, Pochettino made a tactical switch to ensure there was someone in the box for Shaw's crosses, and took off a ball-winning midfielder in a match where we already had the ball basically all the time. He left Cork as the DM and played the rest as attacking midfielders or strikers. I don't think "not being as attacking as Davis, Lallana, Lambert, Rodriguez, and Osvaldo" is a criticism of Ward-Prowse.

He was also fine against Chelsea for as long as the rest of the team was, and neither here nor there against City. No idea re: Newcastle, I've only seen highlights - but he's hardly likely to get in ahead of Davis with his current form, and similar things have been said recently about Lallana and Rodriguez too.

So he hasn't been "poor", but he's not currently on as good form as 3 other midfielders.

Massively patronising as usual but considering his best attribute is crossing and villa's defence was suspect to crossing he didn't put one cross in and pm was visibly furious with him. He has been poor by his standards but is only young and will improve. He was good vs city but poor at Newcastle, vs Villa and Chelsea IMO.

MP was not visibly furious with him. You can make that point without making things up.

http://www.newsbiscuit.com/2013/12/18/kim-jong-un-announced-as-new-spurs-manager/

[h=2]Kim Jong-un announced as new Spurs manager[/h] There was surprise in north London today when Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy unveiled North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un as the Club’s new manager.

‘This is the start of a bright new chapter for Spurs,’ said Levy, ‘I personally saw no more suitable candidate; in Kim we now have a ruthless, fearless head coach who will bring the discipline the team’s been lacking and shore up both our defence and attack through the addition of top North Korean imports. Well, one North Korean Import, actually. Him.’

Despite only playing football once before, Kim has also been named as Club Captain and starting Number 9. Levy reassured fans that Kim’s lack of experience was countered by raw talent, as during that game he had scored 46 goals in a 47-0 victory over the North Korean National team, with the 47th going to his uncle Chang Song-thaek, who is sadly no longer available for selection.

In a bar close to White Hart Lane, a Spurs supporter was upbeat about the appointment of the 30-year-old, saying; ‘Has Levy pulled off a blinder here? Well, we’ve heard it all before and we’re not expecting miracles, but he can’t do any worse than Soldado up front.’

Not sure, but Chambers has been excellent so not too concerned.

Chiriches was back for Spurs last night so their back four will be pretty decent on Sunday, even if Vertonghen doesnt make it.

Most likely: Walker-----------Dawson-------Chiriches-----Rose

Vertonghen is out for a fair while, think they're trying to speed up his return with "blood spinning" treatment, New Year at best if it works. Spurs back 4 is of little import, they're all error prone anyway. Game will be decided in midfield where we should have the upper hand with all those injuries and suspensions that they have. Dinosaur Sherwood might even be stupid enough to try 442 again.

Except for Dawson.

This could easily go either way. These kind of teams who have just lost their manager can be very unpredictable.

Hopefully we should have too much for them though. Win the midfield which we should be able to do, but I do worry about their pace down the flanks. We have been dominant at home though, and see no reason why it won't continue. 2-1 Saints, Lallana and J-Rod.

I would be pretty confident except that we have Gazza in goal, a couple of long dolly droppers or a daisy cutter centre that he fails to read correctly could put us in no end of trouble even though we may dominate the game outrageously. Look at the incident early on in the Newcastle game when he came out and just missed his collection, fortunately Chambers cleared the shot off of the line but if the Toon player had hit it properly the game would have been all over after 10 minutes.

Of course, Boruc doesn't make mistakes either!

It's almost not about how good the keeper is, but Boruc has such a calming influence on the defence, our defence doesnt look comfortable when Gazza is in goal.

can you blame them really, Gazza's incompetence just puts the whole unit under strain, everything has to be done differently.

Stuff that Boruc would just come out and hoover up has to be despatched forward by the defence because it's as likely as not it

would turn into a feck up with Gazza. All I know is that pre-Gazza we'd conceded 8 goals in 12 and a half games and since then we've conceded 7 in three and a half.

Aside from Arsenal, no he doesn't. If you were at Stoke you would have known the wind that day was something ridiculous and he just got caught out completely by how far it took the ball. He was stood in exactly the right place to catch it 99% of the time, any 'keeper in the world could get caught out by that.

Gazza makes silly mistakes under very little pressure. His clearance straight to Remy was reminiscent of his pass straight to Nathan Dyer at St Mary's last year, which lead to a goal and 2 points dropped. He might come good but he isn't reliable enough for the Prem yet.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/tim-sherwood-told-he-will-take-charge-of-tottenham-game-against-southampton-this-weekend-9016002.html

Tim Sherwood has been told he will be in charge of the Tottenham Hotspur team for Sunday’s Premier League game against Southampton.

The interim manager said last night, after the defeat to West Ham in the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup, that he was still unsure whether he would be managing the side for the game at St Mary's. However, the 44-year-old was informed today by chairman Daniel Levy that he remains in charge for the weekend.

Sherwood took training this morning with the members of the first team who were not given the morning off to rest and will face the press tomorrow, with the squad travelling to Southampton on Saturday afternoon. Spurs are still waiting for news on the severity of the injury to Andros Townsend, who pulled up with what looked like a bad hamstring tear at White Hart Lane last night.

Sherwood will have Michael Dawson available again with the captain having served his suspension. Sherwood will have to decide what to do with the central defensive pairing of Etienne Capoue and Vlad Chiriches that were exposed by West Ham's direct approach. Younes Kaboul could yet figure in the starting line-up.

Record-signing Erik Lamela was unavailable for yesterday's cup tie with a minor injury problem but is expected to be in the travelling squad for Southampton.
