Nothing new for Saints fans particularly, but may end some of the endless questions and insults that seem to get hurled at Mauricio for not speaking English in interviews.

Also, I get the feeling Simon Peach is fed up of explaining the scenario, this article is the first to really go on record to say what it does, I believe.

Anyone on here still irked by Spanish answers? How often do you end up explaining the scenario?

Countless times I've had people go "your manager doesn't even speak English!", I take a deep breath, and take out my script... definitely the worst part of him not speaking it. Having to explain it to idiots who cannot use logic to work out that the Saints squad and staff have not all learned Spanish especially for Pochettino.

I have to say I don't mind what language the manager speaks, I find him infinitely more interesting than the old Adkins interviews. Seems to answer the questions pretty straight up too. It's clearly not an issue with club staff, so I don't see why it should bother me.

(P.S. Mods - I keep being infracted for breaking 3 post rule with threads - this thread is my #3 post of the last 24hrs - thanks)

Fair enough for me. It provides a barrier between Pochettino and the media, the only retort they have is a desire for him to communicate in our language when he is most comfortable in his mother tongue.... Why should he? For the benefit of an establishment that would twist his words against him should it serve their ends?

Carry on Mauricio.

Where are all these 'endless insults' that you speak of?

Anyway, his grasp of English is more like 'ok', than 'excellent'. Not really a problem anyway, although I've stopped watching the press conferences due to the tedious nature of them showing the whole translation process back and forth.

Very sensible of Pochettino to keep control of media interviews. The media regularly publish headlines attributing a quote to a manager when in reality the reporter put the words in his mouth by stating a phrase and the manager saying 'Yes'. Pochettino is far less prone to that by using his own words through the translator.

Unless you can speak perfect Spanish then how can you possibly know this? Pochettino is the only manager in the league whose words go through not one but two filters before they end up in print.

I'd spend a bit less time on twitter if I was you. As for insults being 'hurled' at Pochettino, I doubt he gives a toss.

What a waste of money! Learn English ffs

IMO not a waste at all. You can have enough understanding of a foreign language to be able to follow what is being said but the skill in translating is being able to find the correct English word to express the same meaning. I can imagine the same problem happening in Bishopbriggs!

No offense, Aust I mean you have the entire English language to play with. A complete lexicon of language with which to offend and insult and THAT is the best you can do?

Glas Go, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and imagine there isn't a hint of one culture/one language in your comments = it really doesn't matter what language MP speaks in his press conferences - a lot of what is translated is honest, open and clear; unlike other Managers we have had in recent times. What matters is how good a Manager/Coach MP is, and thus far I'd say he is doing well. There is much more insult and offence in your statement than my reply, but I doubt you would see that given the history of your posts. Happy Xmas.

Its not as if the questions are coming at him in Spanish, so he must understand them sufficiently to provide an answer, so...

Is Pochettino's grasp of English any worse than a translation of Spanish?

BTW - I dont have a problem with it, provides an excellent shield to him and the team.

I have three issues with him not speaking English –

A) I have to watch 6 minutes of boring conference which could be covered in 2 minutes if he spoke English

2) He is the manager and should set a good example. He is asking the players to play with confidence and express themselves. If he is not “confident” in his own life/abilities the players will sniff this out and he will lose respect.

D) He is a manager is the English league – the fans speak English, it’s a respect thing

I thought it was funny that the article started with the sentence "This might not be a popular thing to say with some of my media colleagues"......and then at least I couldn´t find the journos name put to the article....

Was he/she afraid of being impopular amongst the media colleagues....?

You don't HAVE to do anything, you could always read the transcript.

At least if he had 3 issues he would probably number them 1,2 & 3 or uno, dos, tres or even A, B & C. To have 3 issues labelled A, 2 and D shows disrespect to those that are literate in any language.

His grasp of the language is fine. His manor is typically South American (feisty, passionate and numerous). Very touchy feely on the training ground (arm around the shoulders, pay on back, ruffle of hair).

His communication physically and verbally is first class, has a habit of ranting to himself at times.
