well maybe?.....but you might also ask yourself the question....where would he have been ...if he was still at Argyle?

and it's our Academy that have helped develop him in the recent past, otherwise he might have moved on from Plymouth to a league club in a higher division ...like Bristol City ...

much like when we sold walcott at 16 and still take credit?

Haha, exactly. Both clubs play their part in that.

I'm quite surprised at how quickly people have come to believe that he's capable of leading our line. He had a good game against Arsenal but came off after 60-odd minutes. Nobody really knows yet, though it will be interesting to see how he does. Still don't expect him to start when Lambert's fit, mind.

It's always difficult for new YOUNG players coming in (and especially strikers) who are mainly judged by the names on the scoresheet every week.

Looking back at our " greats " who started in their teens; Martin Chivers, Mick Channon, Alan Shearer and even MLT all made " explosive debuts " but took a couple of seasons before becoming regulars.

Sam G. looks a very exciting prospect; a sort of Peter Crouch - but with pace. I only hope fans have a lot of patience with this 18 year old who looks good - on the basis of 2 games.

I've seen this comparison made a few times, and although intended as a compliment it is a little unfair on Gallagher as I think he also brings a degree of power and pace with his game that Crouch lacked. Seeing him against Yeovil he reminded me more of a James Beattie in that respect.

You could call it shared development...

Channon was developed by his school team..

Then Wiltshire schools team and not spotted by Saints until seen at the Dell Hants v Wilts..

Hants won 4-1 from memory...even though I was there.

Channon looked the part....speed , control and determination but in a poor Wilts side...

Saints would have been aware of him before/tipped off etc......some good players in Hants side.....4/6 Saints schools side...but none made the grade.

Batman........I always thought you were Argyle supporter at heart.;)

Your recent responses to our development of Big SAM (shared development)..once again smacks of everything anti Saints:rolleyes:

You have spent too much time in Guz:p

Come on board the mighty Saints bus and stop whining/whinging etc

Saints have already thanked Plymouth for allowing Gallagher and Stephens to continue their development with us...

I suppose it is better than you be a skate:uhoh:

it will be intersting to see him develop in that respect. I think JB was around 20 when he came to Saints, and then had a nightmare time for the first season or so.

Remembering this (and others before), I hope that fans have a lot of patience with Sam. If he plays regularly, yet only has 2-3 goals by May, those criticial comments will be quickly be seen on this site.

Which will match the Osvaldo contribution, at about £12m less cost of course.

In the past Saints fans have been fairly tolerant of new starters, and youngsters. A Wolves supporting relative commented on this to me years ago, having seen Trevor Hebbard having a two-left feet sort of stinker as a youngster at The Dell. He was impressed that The Dell crowd - and perhaps that's the difference - stuck with him, whereas irrespective of age the Molineaux crowd would have been on the players back in ten minutes.

Perhaps times, and the crowds expectations have changed.

There is a lot more to Gallagher than goal scoring. His control and shooting is good, but it is his link up play and movement that pulls the centre backs all over the place. His run to the near post took Koscelny out of the way for Lallana to come in behind and have a free shot for the equaliser. He is young and raw but he is probably the best young centre forward we have brought through since Chivers, who in many ways was different as he was converted from a schoolboy midfielder as he grew. For the boy to come in and give the best defence in the league a hard time was outstanding.
