Late last night Talksport had a 2 hour Sporting Lives about Lawrie MacMenemy. Featured Jim Steele. Mick Channon, Tommy Docherty. Missed the first half but Talksport should have the podcast on line later today. Some very interesting revelations.

Great to here him talk about experiences I remember well but from his perspective rather than a supporters.

( Is it too much to ask this Christmas that Nicola Cortese finally shows him the respect that he so richly deserves, and the respect that the football world shows him not to mention the disabled Olympic participants and organisers)

I've missed this - what have the paralympians been saying about Lawrie? You'd think that they of all people would want to treat others with respect, knowing what its like to have stupid comments made about them. And im sure lawrie has done good things for them as well. I suppose some people are never satisfied, able bodied or not.

You seem to have turned my comment on its head. Please look again! I was saying that they (The people of the disabled olympians organisation, not paralympians,) have great respect for him for his work for them.

Disgraceful to hear such a great manager is now being abused by the disabled athletes he's given his time to help. Shocking, being disabled is no excuse for showing disrespect.

Sad times indeed.

Cortese probably just doesn't want to go against the wishes of the paralympians TBF. Can't risk being seen as anti-disabled, not on top of the parking fees fiasco. Until they show some respect to LM, he has to maintain a united front with them.

Yes, I thought I remembered something about him doing stuff with the paralympians or speaking up for them, and a quick google shows this article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1094806/McMenemy-blasts-BBC-Special-Olympians-snub.html about how he stood up for the disabled atheletes after the BBC decided not to ban them from the Sports Personality of the Year awards. So why would they turn on him, thats what I dont get?

I notice that the PC Brigade are out in force to stick up for these disgraceful disabled athletes. As has been pointed out, just because they are disabled it doesn't give them the right to abuse a sporting legend.

But of course, as usual, there's no telling the liberal elite who choose to shout down anyone who tries to point this out.

What have a I missed? What's Laurie done to upset whom?

You've missed out on some incredible humour that's what you've missed. Although you have to look very closely to see it admittedly.

Ludwig!!!! They HAVE NOT TURNED ON HIM! I was trying to explain that they (THE DISABLED ATHLETES ORGANISATION) have great regard for him as their PRESIDENT. In many parts of the world the disabled olympics are bigger than the paralympics and many of the greatest sportsmen and women in history are involved in support of it. Look it up. Here is the link to listen to 93 minutes of last nights Daniel Kelly's "My Sporting Life" with Lawrie MacMenemy

http://talksport.com/football/my-sporting-life-lawrie-mcmenemy-13120971164

Very interesting, listened last night. Expected it to be the normal stories, Keegan and the light, Bally thinking its this is your life, ECT ECT, but it was a bit better than that. Lot of respect for Grimsby ( loved the story of the centre forward smoking his pipe) , other bits I hadn't heard, telling the chairman to get rid of Stevie Williams , directors telling him to sort xxxx out ( i presume he meant terry paine) and being on the board at Sunderland. Couple of errors , it was Gordon hill not Steve Coppell , who said "who" when told it was us in the final. But all in all a decent show about a decent bloke and a bloody great saints manager.

always liked his sense of humour..

especially whilst managing with England U21 side in preparation for a game v. (cannon-fodder) San Marino.....told a disappointed Andy Cole that he wouldn't be playing...

AC - "oh no boss... why ?"

LMcM - just pack your bags........you're going to join the first team squad "
