S-Clarke Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 and it begins Yeah, he's just too predictable. Out for a wind up, safe to ignore. Watch out for his other 3 login's too.
ericofarabia Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Very weird team selection today, really off the cuff decision by MP(someone benched) Shaw or Lovren still carrying a knock? Please not AL!!
RedAndWhite91 Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Gazzaniga dropped, Cody Cropper in I reckon...
Shroppie Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Shaw or Lovren still carrying a knock? Please not AL!! Would worry if we're without any of those.
Saint Charlie Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 They will have reasons for any selection. Probs lots of players carrying knocks or they have seen something in Newcastle's approach that suggests a change needed.
Mikey88 Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Important players are going to be rested over the next month whether we like it or not. Best get use to it!
shurlock Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Shaw or Lovren still carrying a knock? Please not AL!! VMAN's post suggests its a tactical -rather than forced change.
SimplyRed&White Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Adam benched to give Gaston a start!
St Chalet Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Adam benched to give Gaston a start! Your guess or you know this?
JoeShmoe Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 It'll be Gaston for Adam or something really odd like Gallacher
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 I reckon Cork will have been benched for Gaston or Rickie or something odd like that.
Roger Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Cork should play after last weeks amazing performance.
CanadaSaint Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 I'm not sure that MP is as convinced about JWP as we are, so that could be one option.
Window Cleaner Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Fonte out with a bad knee? that wouldn't be a really weird decision though. VMAN suggests that the change is weird or at least surprising so thus unforced.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Lambert in for Jay Rod maybe?
Saint Charlie Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 I'm not sure that MP is as convinced about JWP as we are, so that could be one option. MP loves JWP.
CanadaSaint Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 MP loves JWP. I hope you're right - especially as Newcastle aren't that strong on set pieces, but MP's decision to move him from midfield to RB against Arsenal was very strange considering where that game was going to be won or lost.
Bewildered Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Fonte & Lallana out, Lambert and Hooiveld in. Bizarre
S-Clarke Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Fonte & Lallana out, Lambert and Hooiveld in. Bizarre It's not really though is it? It's all about managing a squad over the busy Christmas period. Pointless risking players with any knocks of niggles at the moment, especially with our injuries.
JoeShmoe Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Can see giving Adam a rest isn't a bad idea, Fonte mist have a knock, clearly going to play 4-4-2 as well
verlaine1979 Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Err, well at least we have a few genuine attacking options on the bench?
The Kraken Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Who do Newcastle have up front? Can only think we're going with Hooiveld to combat a bigger striker??
James Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 4-4-2 seems sensible and so does giving Jose and Adam a bit of a rest. We got battered playing our usual formation last season so maybe MP thinks this will help combat it. If either Fonte or Lallana have a slight knock then its a sensible idea. Still, a strong enough team to give Newcastle a good game - they aren't any great shakes without Cabaye.
mikee Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 It's not really though is it? It's all about managing a squad over the busy Christmas period. Pointless risking players with any knocks of niggles at the moment, especially with our injuries. Agreed. Lallana has been tiring in games recently but should be able to do some damage coming off the bench - probably a better option than Lambert from the bench. Jos played well last time out and Fonte is coming back from a knock. Hardly bizzare.
Olallana Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Those changes has perfectly good reasons as everyone will know after the game. Some of us understand it now, moaners will understand it then.
JustinR Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Pardew basically said he was scared of Lallana in the week... so all his plans have gone up in smoke because he wouldnt have predicted this
CanadaSaint Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 What I'd really like to know is who the hell THEVMAN is! Amazing.
Batman Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 lets wait and see. we were supposed to get mullered last week
Wrensup Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 For all yous who are worried about the selection, remember that MoPo isn't afraid to change things early if it ain't working. So... I'm not worried.
Professor Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Looks like 4-4-2 but RL often slips into midfield and as a former midfielder before turning striker he's comfortable doing that. AL available off the bench if needed seems a good idea.
Saint Charlie Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Hooiveld is a top notch replacement anway. Not many teams in the top half with a third choice CB of that quality.
CanadaSaint Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Presumably Jos will play on the right side of Lovren, which will be a change for him.
JoeShmoe Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Those changes has perfectly good reasons as everyone will know after the game. Some of us understand it now, moaners will understand it then. disciplinary issue? benched for being out late or something? was Fonte having another go at Pardew's missus?!
ericofarabia Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 As alluded to elsewhere, we got steam rollered last season playing our normal style with Newcastle playing a direct game cutting out our midfield. Maybe we will be playing a bit more direct as well. The Subs bench is a bit of a worry. If Fonte is still carrying a knock and we've already been told Spiderman isn't match fit, plus Gaston hasn't had a decent run out in a while and a rookie forward and goalie .... AL supersub if needed it is then.
Dr Who? Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Off the top of my head, we have a terrible record at St James Park..... I remember a 0-1 win with a Matty free kick and a 2-4 in the late 80's but not to much success there.
Saint_Ash Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 This isn't worrying, dropping lovren or Shaw would be worrying, we can still play well with that team.
dubai_phil Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 MP has gone for the surprise selections. I've had to dig deep into the memory banks to recall how we used to do this on a Saturday at home. OSH is in the fridge. That bit I do remember. Think I'll start with them up front and can then bring in the Pedigree or London Pride to settle things down or in emergency can throw a Zubrowka or Old Krupnik in for a tactical shock value late in the second half. Next big decision is to go with Juddervision or Merry Davington?
Batman Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Man City are beating Arsenal 5-2 they thrash nearly every team at home. just destroying arsenal now yet, they are not very good away
Hamilton Saint Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Presumably Jos will play on the right side of Lovren, which will be a change for him. Or, Lovren will move right because of Hooiveld's comfort on the left.
S-Clarke Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Man City are beating Arsenal 5-2 they thrash nearly every team at home. just destroying arsenal now yet, they are not very good away I see Arsenal's season is doing it's usual Christmas implosion.
Matthew Le God Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 Man City are beating Arsenal 5-2 Means Saints have the joint best defensive record in the Premier League again (along with Everton).
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 14 December, 2013 Posted 14 December, 2013 As much as we got 'steamrolled ' last season. Cisse was offside, the penalty was soft and Jos' own goal was a fluke.
