Newcastle vs Saints - Build Up

Lighthouse

I'm calling a defeat here. Simply because we don't do that well up there and I think they will be too good on the counter. They have great pace up front and will be up for it. Certainly far more up for it than City were last week.

We don't do that well up there ? We've played them ONCE since 2005/06. The result on Saturday will have nothing to do with games we played 15-20 years ago. If we're up for it we will take the 3 points. Up to the guys to make it happen

No am afraid not, although the English bar in Alabang purports to show games,

since the debacle with Al Jezeera I can't even get any of the games on Balls TV anymore? and we used to get all the Saturday and Sunday games. At present I am back to dodgy chinese streams again :(

Thanks mate, I may try the Heckle or Handle Bar off Burgos.

Maybe so but call it superstition or maybe just the players attitudes but certain grounds have been rubbish for us over the years. Stats can prove or disprove anything and obviously your stat above is largely due to us not playing them that often in last 8 years due to being in a different league.

I still stand by my statement that historically it's not been a happy hunting ground for us. It shouldn't have anything to do with the result but players are humans and will be well aware we don't do well up there.

Truly hope we win of course but am not overly confident. Just as well I'm not playing I guess you could say :-)

As you were

Not got a good feeling, even though we were looking good by the end last Sat.

Gazza still makes me nervous and we rarely do well in Geordieland.

Would be happy with a point, but it will take a class performance. Defence will be busy, with pace to contend with and if we get chances they have to be put away.

That was true for a long while, particularly at The Dell, spookily enough our last win there was in 1972 (same as the hoodoo we've just broke at Old Trafford), at St Mary's however I think it's played 6, 2 wins, 2 draws, 2 defeats.

I didn't realise it wasn't so great at SMS. Just goes to show all the "haven't won at x since y" stuff is all balls.

Don't think we'll win tomorrow though. We never win in Newcastle.

what pub is gonna be best for me and the lads to go and eat beers at pregame?!

Depends what you're after. If you wnat lagery, shouty type places go the gate complex, if you're after good beers then try Tilleys, The Forth, The Town wall, , Bodega, (all about 20mins from the ground, between the train station and SJP). The Bridge Hotel and Bacchus are worth a shout aswell, 5mins further away though. For food The Town wall is probably best or if anyone is staying on the Quayside newly opened Bridge Tavern is very good for both beer and food, nice well heated roof terrace aswell. Brew dog is worth a shout and could fit that in on the way up from the Bridge Tavern. Most places will be quite busy as they usually are on match days, add in it's our last home game before christmas so many will make a day of it.

Anyone stopping over and wanting more resteraunt style food could do worse than to have a look in here......http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,58315.0.html, obviously later pages are more recent.

Crown Posada - I think that's the name - is a beautiful traditional pub for real ale drinkers and worth a visit post-match for those who are staying. Seem to remember having a delicious curry at place called Sarque or something similar. It's a great weekend for travelling supporters if you ignore our rubbish record at SJP. Went in 2003/4 and it was brilliant, you can see the stands from all around the City but the view is a bit 'Sensible Soccer' from the very back. Remember Bacchus being a good pub and some good beers to look out for - Jarrow Rivet Catcher and the Mordue range. Think we went into Trent House as well but would imagine that would rammed pre-game.

Hope you all enjoy, was tempted but just too expensive from the South West when I've got Saints home games lined up in the new year.

The bigg market area has to be tried , Pop world, Mushroom and The Vault(a bit like watching curios in a freak show but worth having one for the shock/novelty value ), many head up to the gate complex but I can't stand it. The best pubs are towards the Central station (Forth, Town wall, Bodega), if it's night life you want then and you're young and trendy you'll be after the likes of Madam Ku's, Baby lynch and Perdu on Collingwood street. Food wise, I posted a link earlier with plenty of reccomendations and you'll not go far wrong on Stowell street if you want Chinese.

Where is the cheapest for a loada pints? How far is the pub from St Joseph's Park? First away day tomorrow boys I am very excited

Google Maps could not calculate the distance between St Josephs Park and Newcastle's ground as the Atlantic ocean due to global warming has not yet frozen over to enable it to be driven on.

I would set of early if I was you to make sure you get there on time.

Showing my age here havasack, but as a former Newcastle Uni student, I recall Stowell Street as home to the Stage Door nightclub, a rather seedy little place but inexpensive and fun at the time.

Also the Bigg Market was excellent, and always heaving....Half Moon pub; presumably now gone ?

Never saw Saints at St James' Park in those days, had to go to Roker.

Put it in context of time, I was up there when you signed KK from us.

Will be making the long trip up on my own to Newcastle for the game

even though a Win would be Great up there to **** the Geordies off

but what will be will be and whatever league were in

I'm Saints Till I Die!!!

Also: 1). Are we in red for this or black?

2). What pubs are people drinking in too pre match?

I think you'll find he won't be playing for them due to him being an old fat alcoholic. ;)

Bah Humbug .... beaten to it!! When I saw the Gaza reference, that was the 1st thing that came to my mind, and as I read through the thread I coulndn't believe nobody else had thought the same .... only to be thwarted at the final hurdle!! great minds and all that!!

You will have the pleasure of my company on here tonight due to Al jism only being allowed to show one Saturday afternoon match by order of The EPL.

do we still have Naughty Nuns etc on matchday?

I think as it is the fault of Brits who mean we are now back on the match thread we should come out all guns blazing.

Nuns, Golf Stories, Christmas Stockings. Maybe in honour of the aholes who got us switched off we could have Pirate Chicks

Fair play mate. It's a fair old track and I wouldn't be wanting to do it on my own!

I would assume we're in red, and if you look on a previous page there is a Newcastle fan who has put some great advice on here. Safe journey.

Think we will see Gazzas limitations as a goalie today fully expect him to be underfire from Newcastle's attack today and if I'm honest expect one or two calamitys. But if if the defence can stay strong in front of him we can get something. I'd take a point

Tried all your real ale recommendations. Excellent. Deep respect!
