Lighthouse Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 If there's a form team you don't want to be playing at the moment Newcastle are pretty high on the list. They are fresh off an excellent win at old Trafford, much to the amusement of the City fans in the Northam concourse just before kick off. I don't see any reason to change the team. Let's give Ossie a chance to build on 2 goals in a week. Want and and Boruc will still be out. Any news on Morgan and Clyne? The only other worry might be Lovren who tweeted a picture of a nasty looking gash on his leg. Hopefully just a scratch for 'Animal' though. Who's going up for the game? I wanted to go but can't really justify the cost of such a far away trip just before Christmas.
trousers Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 If there's a form team you don't want to be playing at the moment Newcastle are pretty high on the list A bit like Man City before today then? Agree that we should go with the same starting 11 regardless of injury recoveries.
Wiggles31 Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 We can get a result here. Same team barring a return from injuries. Bring em on!
Lighthouse Posted 7 December, 2013 Author Posted 7 December, 2013 True but City's away form has been patchy at best. I won't lie, I was expecting a spanking today but City's flat performance won't come as a huge shock to most pundits. If Clyne is fit I still wouldn't drop Chambers after today. They will have to fight for that RB slot. Having said that, Clyne coming on after 70 minutes and running at tired defences is a good option to have.
Olallana Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Cabaye was the difference between the teams last year at their place, fortunately he´s suspended next week.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Be great to get back to winning ways. 1 point from 12 and gap opening up from 6 upwards Hopefully Newcastle will underestimate us?
Golden Balls Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Really can't see us getting anything up there.
Window Cleaner Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 (edited) Really can't see us getting anything up there. Newcastle without the suspended Cabaye aren't anything much to write home about. Makes them tick and scores a lot of their goals. On his way to PSG in January so they'll take a nose dive soon. edit he's not suspended then, thought someone said he was. re-edit seems that he is, although it doesn't show up on the FA list, perhaps yesterday's yellow hasn't been counted yet. shurlock Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 They'll try to do what they did to us last time. Be direct in the mould of Pardew teams, hitting diagonal balls behind our full backs.

Strange one, cant find it either and looking through BBC stats from their games I only find 4 yellows. But the commentator on my stream yesterday claimed a few times that he got his fifth yesterday...

lickierambert Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Newcastle are the side against which Saints have the most Premier League victories and have scored the most goals. This obviously means very little, but an interesting aside.
Batman Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 I feel wanyama will be a big miss for this one. Newcastle definitely like to play more direct than man city
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 I feel wanyama will be a big miss for this one. Newcastle definitely like to play more direct than man city True, though Morgan and Cork would be good if Morgan is back. At least we will have Lovren and Shaw rather than the disastrous Hooiveld and Fox combination that we had last year.

Crap, so it seems like he'll be playing next week. Really fancied our chances if they didn't have Cabaye. Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk

Window Cleaner Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Newcastle's defence sometimes looks pretty frail, JRod and Ossie might have a field day.
DuncanRG Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Newcastle's defence sometimes looks pretty frail, JRod and Ossie might have a field day. They've got one of the form keepers in the league though, and they've kept clean sheets at White Hart Lane and Old Trafford recently. Their defensive record is starting to improve
Charlie Wayman Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 Looks a nailed on certainty for a 1-1.
Window Cleaner Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 (edited) They've got one of the form keepers in the league though, and they've kept clean sheets at White Hart Lane and Old Trafford recently. Their defensive record is starting to improve since Coloccini has been back, yes but without Cabaye in front of the defence they'll be more exposed and as I've never rated Tioté I don't think he'll be as effective as Cabaye. Swansea took the game to them and Newcastle just got blown away and Krul was pretty awful apparently. Newcastle are a Jekyll and Hyde side. Edited 9 December, 2013 by Window Cleaner

Sheaf Saint Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 Cabaye was the difference between the teams last year at their place, fortunately he´s suspended next week. I don't know. We weren't at our best up there last year, but I would say that a dodgy penalty decision and an goal that blatantly should have been ruled offside were the actual difference between the teams.
Saint_Tony Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 Tough one to call. We were well beaten there last year, although we were we certainly helped out by Fox that day, and a wonder strike by Cisse

Swansea took the game to them and Newcastle just got blown away and Krul was pretty awful apparently. Newcastle are a Jekyll and Hyde side. I know a few Newcastle fans who would rather have Yanga-Mbiwa and Williamson at centre half - I believe that was the pairing at WHL and against Chelsea when they kept a clean sheet. Haven't watched them enough to know myself!
benjii Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 If Morgan is fully fit I would bring him in for JWP but otherwise unchanged.

Swansea took the game to them and Newcastle just got blown away and Krul was pretty awful apparently. Newcastle are a Jekyll and Hyde side. I went to the game in Swansea last week. Newcastle didn't really offer a lot. Dyer was the game changer when he came on in the 1st half. They couldn't deal with Swansea's passing game and Dyer's pace, and even though they didn't have a recognised striker, still slotted 3 past them. I don't think we have anything to fear, as long as we play our game and dictate the style of play.
Leicestersaint Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 A draw looks like a good result - but I think we can take all three points (but I thought we could do that at Chelski).
studentsaint Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 Yang-mbia is the worst defender in the league, awful, clumsy, stupid. Every time I've seen him he has made mistakes. Williamson is a good defender,he and colocini will be tough to brake down.
Saint Garrett Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 Going up Friday-Sunday, think we'll win. This. Epic weekend on the cards! New ground to tick off too!
John Boy Saint Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 Interestingly they couldn't get hold of Swansea last week, so if we are as disciplined as we were against Man City for the final 75 minutes, and Osvaldo is looking to have a bit more sunshine blown up his Jacksy (and another wedgie from Jose) we could be in with a shout.
S-Clarke Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 Let's be honest, after beating Man Utd on their patch, this is exactly the sort of home game Newcastle will slip up in. I feel pretty confident about this one, not sure why...but I had a similar feeling in the run-up to the City game. I think we've got another epic away day on the cards. I'm not sure what I'd change, probably just JWP out for Morgan (if he's back). Leave Osvaldo up top, but bring on Lambert alongside him if we're struggling. Don't think we will be though, positive about this one.
Roger Posted 10 December, 2013 Posted 10 December, 2013 If fit I'd go: Davis Clyne fonte lovren shaw Cork Morgan Lallana s Davis j rod Osvaldo Subs: Gazza, lambert, Ramirez, chambers, hooiveld, jwp,

That's pretty much what we (NUFC fan here) are thinking. At Swansea we played with Ameobi up front and Remy supporting and just couldn't get near the ball. At Old Trafford we brought Anita in and had more possession than them, more shots and never looked in trouble after scoring. Cabaye out means Anita will definitly play and he just keeps the tempo going, always moving and a very neat little player. Many of us want to see him play reularly in a more fluid 5 man midfield. Who mentioned M'biwa earlier on ? Yes he was very poor, but like Debuchy, Sissoko and Gouffran they have all got to grips with the pace and intensity of the Premier league and are now much better with most feeling M'biwa was very unlucky to be dropped for Coloccini. How many are you bringing up ? I know many clubs like a visit up here just before christmas to make a weekend of shopping and "socialising". Have fun just I hope you don't enjoy the match.

Cabrone Posted 11 December, 2013 Posted 11 December, 2013 We've got a decent track record against the Geordies, can remember Tiss regularly sinking them with another wonderstrike. Guess we'll try to do the boa constrictor and hope for a bit of Ossie brilliance. My money would be on Newcastle but we still have a decent shout ourselves. PS Those that are going take mountain gear with you, it's the highest spot I've ever sat in. The pitch looked tiny from up there but it was a great view across Geordieland.
