What do I really love about being a Saints fan?

one of these threads popping up every few months as we welcome a new, young face into the first team... and watch them settle in, grow and develop as each game goes by. Such a great time to be a Saints fan. Consistently the most continually productive period I can remember for our production line. Win, lose or draw I'm enjoying seeing us bring on the next generation more than anything. It's what a football club should be about IMO.

Who is our keeper? :scared: We really don't make good ones in that department!

Ted Smith, the England under 18 keeper who appears to be on trial from Southend United.

Some lower league trialist or other apparently, we'll never learn.

Not writing a teenager off on the basis of one error are you...?

Is he really Harry? Do you know him personally?

I thought his name was Harrison and ben if he agreed to the use of an Anglo-Saxon abbreviation certainly it would not be Harry.

if i know footballers like i think i know footballers, no doubt they call him "Reedy"

I was at the game today and rowe has a lot of maturing to do before poch lets him near the team. no doubt he has bags of pace and is a tidu finisher but he was sloppy at times with simple balls and hunter was basically had to shout at him for most of the game to get him track back in the right position. Keeper wasnt anything special but then he didnt have a lot to do. Best player on the pitch by a mile was reed , his game is identical to steven davis so I can see him replacing him next year. Gallagher is still a bit rough to be in contention for lamberts place for next season, some poor decision making at times but that will come with experience

Other than being short and having ginger hair, what did he do today that could justify comparisons to Paul Scholes? Talk about building them up early.

He is good, well he is very goodbut yes, I think if he was tall with a blonde afro we wouldnt be getting the scholes comparison

I know this is a slightly older thread but no point starting a new one IMO.

Today's OS article ( http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/01052014-harrison-reed-hopes-for-first-start-1522395.aspx ) reminded me of something I was going to post after the Everton game.

This is based on not a lot more than the small amount of minutes I've seen, plus the odd U-21 game earlier in the season, but I have a strong gut feeling that he is going to be another excellent player and one who, much like Chambers did, we will see make a real breakthrough next season, almost from nowhere.

It really is not a lot more than a gut feel from the little I've seen, but he just strikes me as someone who will fit into the supporting 3 behind the front man really well, making good runs through and behind the defence, confident in possession, and also with some good vision and end product.

I know most of us want us to sign a striker and/or quality attacking midfielder, but I reckon Reed could well be the latter. I'd really like to see him start this weekend to be honest - as much as I think Gallagher has potential too, I think putting Lambert back up top with Reed coming in one of the supporting positions would be worth a look.

He is the heir apparent to Steve Davis I think. He plays deeper for the U21's but he'll get gobbled up playing there for us (although he did look good as one of the deeper two away at Sunderland in the Capital One Cup).

Can you post what it says please?

I opened it, but forgot about the ridiculous white text on a black background and my eyes have already gone funny.

As it's you... ;)

Harrison Reed has shared his ambition to be awarded his first Premier League start for Saints before the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

Southampton travel to Swansea this weekend before rounding off an extremely pleasing season with the welcoming of Reed’s boyhood club Manchester United.

The midfielder feels that being named in either of the starting line-ups for those clashes would compliment a breakthrough season in which he made his first appearance in the league against Manchester City last December.

“It would be a great experience for me,” Reed said of a potential starting place when speaking to BBC Radio Solent. “Personally, it’d cap the season off magnificently. I’ve had a bit of game-time here and there and it just makes me want it even more and more.

“Especially with my friends like Calum [Chambers] making 18 starts this season – it makes me want it a lot.

“It was quite scary watching the players come out of the tunnel [against Manchester City] and seeing Yaya Toure on the pitch. But, for me I want to get on in every game; especially to make my debut against Man City – I was itching to get on.

“I supported Manchester United as a child and it’d be a dream come true [to start against them] and it’s one that I’m thinking about.”

Reed was delighted to reveal how positive his current situation within Mauricio Pochettino’s squad is, in an environment that he eased into with help from all members of both playing and coaching staff.

“It’s a great group of players,” the youngster enthused. “They all welcome you in. Every morning you greet each other with a handshake or a high-five and I think that really does help when a younger player comes up to the First Team because it makes you feel welcome and wanted by all the players.

“You just be yourself around this group of players and the manager and the management staff. It’s really nice and relaxed. It’s a great place to be.”

Totally agree with this post...

I have the same feeling regarding what I have seen.

Reed definitely has potential to make the break through soon.

Looks as if he will get a start or longer sub appearance this weekend.

Looks like Lambert is out or just a sub role.....Gallagher to start?

Give 'em both a start, why not?

Barring two batterings we are 8th anyway. Run out will do the lads good.

Gallagher looks to have bags of potential....although not ready to start week in week out yet. Reed looks like yet another class act and fully expect him to have a breakthrough season next season.

Then the question becomes......how on earth do you accommodate Cork, Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Reed, JWP, Davis? Good competition: 2 players for every position and simply highlights how we need to strengthen CB, GK and Striker options.

The six of them aren't all going for the same roles in the systems Pochettino uses. Reed, Ward-Prowse and S.Davis can all play in more advanced roles in the 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system. Plus in any case we need squad depth and midfield is one area we have it. As you say, we need another keeper, centre back and striker.

Seems he's been put infront of the media this week...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27237491

In that case, he probably won't be starting.

Clubs like to play a little game with the media, and in the process think they are pulling the wool over the opposition's eyes.

In most instances (not all, but most) the player put up for interview on media day, does not appear in the starting line-up.

Zero point risking Ricky. Would you go flat out when you had a knock and a world cup coming?

Is there anyone else who can play up front? Maybe Guly will get a go. He'll be gone in the summer, be great to see him score. I think he's better than Gallagher right now.

Happy for Reed to start both games. What better time? Looks pretty fast and useful.

He might be better than Gallagher at the moment, but is there any point in him playing? Gallagher is the future (at least for now), Guly's on his way out. If this was a must-win game then I'd agree, but we're finishing eighth whatever happens in these two games. Newcastle won't get 6 points, and neither Swansea or Man U have a good enough attack to put 6/7 past our defence.

Reed and Gallagher for me please, and I'd rather see Cork and Wanyama in DM if Morgan isn't 100%.
