trousers Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Great performance today and a wise head on young shoulders in his post match interview: http://www.player.saintsfc.co.uk/latest-news/article/3566706/date/20131207191000/page/0/name/Chambers:-We-got-what-we-deserved
Wiggles31 Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Played fantasically. Really bombs forward. Huge prospect. To think unlike Chamberlain, Bale and Walcott these players are making their debuts in the Premier League. Brilliant.
shurlock Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Was worried he wouldn't give us the same threat as Clyne going forward but had a v.strong game.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Yes agree with T. Great young player and looks comfortable on the ball. His positioning is excellent and doesnt lack pace either. Great to have two superb rb's could do with having like for like in every position Only 18 too
Bailey Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Big fan of Calum. If I was being extremely harsh on him, my only criticism from earlier in the season was that, while solid defensively, he didn't offer us a lot going forward. When we rely on our width from the full-backs, this is a key point to our attacking play but today, Chambers was fantastic. My MOM, without question.
Saint Martini Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 My MotM as well, but he should have scored. His chance was probably bigger the. Osvaldos in the scond half.
Sour Mash Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Has he ever had anything close to a bad game for us?
sammysaint Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Must of seen a different game if people think he was MOM and not Cork, yes he played well and was solid defensively and looked ok going forward but he did get caught out a few times where i thought he should of positioned himself better or gone to the man no shame in this as we were playing City, if he can play like this every week vs the poor teams he would look even better. But 2nd choice for MOM for me behind Cork who pretty much had a perfect game for a holding midfielder.
Gis Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Liked the way Callum grabbed the ball from Nasri who had somehow figured that kicking the ball out had made it a City throw-in. I reckon it is always a good sign when a youngster shows an appreciation of the opposition, but not too much respect. Reminds me a fair bit of Mick Channon for some reason, although Channon struggled to run across a muddy pitch when he first started, Chambers, like Shaw both seem to be units already.
Badger Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Very impressed with him today, first time I have seen him as an attacking threat rather than a solid RB. Looks an excellent prospect. Only 'downside' if there is one is that Clyne though does offer a bit more in terms of pace.
Colinjb Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Looked arguably better defensively then Clyne today. Assured performance.
Saint Garrett Posted 7 December, 2013 Posted 7 December, 2013 Was worried he wouldn't give us the same threat as Clyne going forward but had a v.strong game. Yup this. Thought he'd be weak today, he was magnificent.
John Boy Saint Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 First time I had seen him was in Spain pre season and he looked competent albeit against a little team, I also had Jos sat behind me really heaping praise on him. Then first game of the season v WBA him and JWP worked really well together he certainly isn't shy in getting up the line and has some pace. Overall it's good to have a competent back up for Clyne.
Pugwash Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Outstanding game for him. Shaded Cork for MoM for me.
paulwantsapint Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Thanks to chambers man city were late leaving st Mary's They were helped out by the saints kit man finally returning nasri from CC pocket There was a slight problem with toure but the bulge in corks pocket was more noticeable
Bobbyboy Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Actually thought he looked a little nervous going forward early on then had one very good run, beat his man and delivered the cross.. it was like a weight lifted from him and he seemed much more willing to try stuff going forward after that.
BlakeySFC Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Really surprised by him. The first couple of games of the season he looked a tad overawed and nervous, but today he was exceptional. Still think Clyne is the more 'finished article' so to speak but Chambers will push him hard to get his place back after this performance.
niceandfriendly Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 He, alongside Cork were fantastic. How can we keep producing these quality players who instantly look at home in the Premier League?
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 No one has mentioned how he ended up playing wide right midfield with Ward-Prowse playing full-back
rooney Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Excellent as he started in pre-season and has been in all his games for the first team. Intelligent young man in the Ward-Prouse mold.
Toadhall Saint Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Was worried he wouldn't give us the same threat as Clyne going forward but had a v.strong game. Same as that but proved us wrong yesterday. Long May it continue.
Batman Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 No one has mentioned how he ended up playing wide right midfield with Ward-Prowse playing full-back JWP and Clyne also do this. JWP seems to drop back quite a bit to allow constant width from a full back
Saint Garrett Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 JWP and Clyne also do this. JWP seems to drop back quite a bit to allow constant width from a full back This. It's the same on the other side. Our full backs push up so far.
Golden Balls Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Excellent from him. Like others have said, he offered a lot going forward which he wasn't so much before. Always solid but Redmond in the Norwich game gave him a lot of problems. Great future ahead
solentstars Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Young players doing the :/ proud Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Graffito Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 He had a good game and is another fine prospect from the academy. It wasn't a flawless performance. He failed to cut out the cross that led to their goal, though three other players failed as well. He needs to be careful about being caught out of position as he isn't the quickest. That could be down to lapses in concentration. Fonte had a word with him about it in the second half. Quite animated.
farawaysaint Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 An absolute beast, so much more physical than the slightly diminutive Clyne. Nice to have him as backup and Clyne as first choice, if nothing else the spotlight isn't on Calum like it is Shaw.
ottery st mary Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Poch knows best:)..( AS GOOD AS HE IS AND WAS YESTERDAY) BUT I have this gut feeling that Calum Chambers will easily revert to his old centre midfield position....in time:) AND will be an absolute star
Saint Mikey Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 He had a good game and is another fine prospect from the academy. It wasn't a flawless performance. He failed to cut out the cross that led to their goal, though three other players failed as well. He needs to be careful about being caught out of position as he isn't the quickest. That could be down to lapses in concentration. Fonte had a word with him about it in the second half. Quite animated. Agreed. I thought he had a very good game and showed some fantastic touches. Also showed a little naivety at times though and Fonte gave him a bollocking a couple of times for being out of position in the 2nd half. Still a bit raw in places, but for 18 - looking like a fantastic prospect.
DuncanRG Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 I was especially impressed by his attacking. At the start of the season he was cautious and kept it tight (which is understandable) but he was properly bombing it yesterday. Good feet and decent pace as well. Should have buried that header though...
mitch01 Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 He was great but made the wrong decision a couple of times when he was in good positions. That will come with time and experience. Another technically gifted player in our squad, very pleased. He and Cork really stepped up to the plate yesterday.
The Kraken Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 An excellent performance and he certainly looked like he was given more of a free reign to bomb forwards, he gave us some excellent attacking options while also putting in a shift defensively. I'm still not convinced that right back is his best position, time will tell. But his record at U21 and at England junior levels suggests he's got goals in him.
Roger Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Looked arguably better defensively then Clyne today. Assured performance. I'm sorry but that is rubbish. Clyne is absolute class.
Roger Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 I was at the Villa game but sadly not the City game (I will stay away) but from what I saw at Villa, Clyne pushes very high and then gives the ball away or is mostly ineffective when thinking about the final ball. That left Yoshida to cover and we all know what happened then. For those that were there yesterday, how did Chambers deal with the final ball in the final third? If he did well, that combined with his height and physical presence is going to make it very hard for Clyne to return. That is garbage about Clyne . Him and lovren the best players we have had this season. Did you see Clyne created the first goal vs villa and two of the hull goals.
JoeShmoe Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Yes agree with T. Great young player and looks comfortable on the ball. His positioning is excellent and doesnt lack pace either. Great to have two superb rb's could do with having like for like in every position Only 18 too It really is astonishing in this day and age how we as a club are preparing these lads to not only be technically and physically good enough but to be mentally ready as well It will be self fulfilling as well as the best 14-15 year old's will want to come here as they know they will get a chance It also goes to show British football in general not be afraid of giving young players a chance instead of trying to buy foreign lads who they think are ready made (Spurs, Sunderland etc), if as a country we start following this approach we might stand a much better chance of doing better internationally whereas right now we're dog****
ottery st mary Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 (edited) That is garbage about Clyne . Him and lovren the best players we have had this season. Did you see Clyne created the first goal vs villa and two of the hull goals. 100% correct........Clyne is a top class player and England prospect on his form this season. Agreed Calum Chambers played very well and good to have in the squad etc... As I said earlier....See Calum Chambers in centre midfield in the future...his original position... Clyne is first choice and admired by many opposition Managers and football critics.. SOOOO GLAD NATHANIEL CLYNE PLAYS FOR THE MIGHTY SAINTS AND IS ENJOYING HIS FOOTBALL. angelman Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 I thought he had a blinder yesterday and can understand why some consider him MOM. But was wondering, can Chambers play CB as well?
The Kraken Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 I thought he had a blinder yesterday and can understand why some consider him MOM. But was wondering, can Chambers play CB as well? If he can he's not really shown it before. At academy level and England junior levels he's been employed more as a midfielder as well as at RB. Scored 3 goals in 6 games for England U17s, seems to play more as a right back for the U19s, a call up to the U21s perhaps isn't too far away.
Andy Durman Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 (edited) Whilst I like him offensively I do have issues with his speed and running technique. If you notice he runs a little flat footed. He can with training get quicker. I think he was exposed a few times defensively, but at 18 has the world ahead of him and Clyne. Edited 10 December, 2013 by Andy Durman
toe_punt Posted 9 December, 2013 Posted 9 December, 2013 Yes agree with T. Great young player and looks comfortable on the ball. His positioning is excellent and doesnt lack pace either. Great to have two superb rb's could do with having like for like in every position Only 18 too Can't agree on the "pace" Glasgow, he seems slow to me. He has plenty to offer, but speed ain't part of it.
