Disappointing, only a slight improvement from Wednesday imho.

City, call them one of the "big boys", "title challengers", etc., were absolute w@nk and why we were unable to put the game to bed second half is anyone's guess.

Cork was solid defensively, Davis looked energetic, JWP okay, Lallana and Ossie threatened sporadically, Jayrod anonymous as always.

+1 for atmosphere today though!

Good performance, we created the better chances and on another day could have won.

Gazzaniga - 6 - Was OK, one weird decision second half but wqas generally ok

Chambers - 8 - Excellent. Man City got very little down his side and had a good chance to score in the first half that he was unlucky with, best he's played in an attacking sense, seemed more confident in his ability to attack.

Lovren - 8 - Very good game, helped keep City at arms length for most of the match. The cheer when he came back on to the pitch after that knock he took shows how important he is to the team.

Fonte - 8.5 - Was as good as Lovren, and his tackle and pass started off the play for our goal.

Shaw - 7 - Excellent going forwards, caught a few times at the back in the first half though

Cork - 8 - Bounced back after a poor Villa performance and showed that he will be an important player for us in the coming weeks

JWP - 8.5 - Looked much better in his preferred position, not afraid to get stuck in and showed signs that he could be that player with the killer pass that we sometimes lack. Set pieces were good as usual.

Davis - 9 - Was my MotM, classic box to box midfield performance, absolutely everywhere.

Lallana - 7 - Some good runs and created a few dangerous situations, but I felt he was one player who perhaps did tire second half.

Rodriguez - 7 - Numerous dangerous runs and had a couple of chances he may be disappointed he did not do better with.

Osvaldo - 8 - World class goal aside, looks to be coming to terms with the PL. Led from the front and his constant attempts to run behind encouraged the midfield to play it forward quicker.

Subs: Lambert - 7 - Held the ball up, played a part in creating a chance for J-Rod.

Ramirez - 6 - some decent touches, but not really on long enough to effect the game

Reed - Not enough time to judge either way.

I take it you didn't go to the match. Your man of the match Steven Davis made his first tackle on 27 minutes, and his second on 75 minutes hardly a man of the match. Whilst Cork, Chambers, JWP, Shaw, and the centre backs made tackle after tackle to shut Man City out. Davis was neat and tidy but not a patch on the outstanding Cork.

Massively chuffed with that. After going behind early on I was sure my raft of bets on us to get stuffed would pay out, but man I'm happy they didn't. That was an outstanding team performance, we didn't give them any time to get control of the game and with better finishing would have nicked the win.

Osvaldo's goal was just utter class. Chambers was excellent and Lovren organised the defence superbly. Fair play to Cork, Davis and Ward-Prowse for getting through an incredible amount of work. Decent atmosphere too. Very happy tonight.

Great performance.

Cork was sublime. I highly rate Wanyama but we really did benefit from Cork's quicker/better passing ability. It sped up the tempo somewhat.

Really pleased to see Osvaldo play so well too.

Special mention to Chambers. Was top draw. Our next English prodigy.

No sh*t sherlock.

Games like today are why we will never get into champions league or even top 6 with this muppet of a manager. Dominating, on top, looking for a winner, and what does he do? Take off our two biggest goal threats all afternoon.

oh my word what a complete and utter Cu nt you are.

Not sure I was watching the same game as some people, chuffed to bits with the performance all over the park really. Saints of old would have collapsed and we would have ended up cheering throw ins. In the end we looked unlucky against a team that cost how much ?

Very proud of our club and how much our academy contributed to today's amazing performance.

Not really sure what peoples expectations are. Are we now gutted not to be in CL spots each week ? Spent so much of my life with calculators and predictors of relegation that for once I'm just enjoying game after game of us competing and looking impressive. It's been a long time coming.

Probably the pathetic ramblings of a happy clapper but there you go.

Yes Dalek!

Whilst I do not always agree with you and Alpine you two genuinely have you opinions.

Alpine is actually a popular poster, says things as he sees them. Alpine stirs up the passions on this board and I cannot see why people get so upset.

This is a great forum compared to some of the other sanitised and bland sites you might find.

Great performance. I predicted a defeat with the injuries in key positions. City weren't right on it, and had good chances to go 2-0 up which they'd normally take, but we played well.

Gazza - 4 - Thank **** we defended well and city's shooting was mainly off target, or non existent. He is a liability and doesn't even try to command his area. We were panicky at the back in the first 20 mins with the defence having no confidence in him.

Chambers - 8 - Really solid game. Went forward well, good on the ball, and dealt with Aguero and Nasri really well when they came wide.

Fonte - 7 - Solid

Lovren - 8 - Brilliant as always. Commanding and so good with the ball at his feet.

Shaw - 8 - was allowed to get forward lots, brilliant crossing. Defended well as usual.

Cork - 7 - Caught in possession a few times, but got about and nicked possession back countless times. Managed Toure well.

Davis - 7 - Solid. Worked tirelessly, tidy in possession as always.

JWP - 7 - Another solid game. Set pieces good.

Lallana - 8 - MOTM. Gave city all sorts of problems. Ran at players, tricks & turns, good crosses, tracked back. Can we clone him? What a season he's having.

Rodriguez - 6 - Couple of decent chances. Needs a trick or 2. So many times he runs at pace at panicking defenders, but doesn't know how to beat them and runs into them. Common theme this season. Gives teams something to think about though.

Osvaldo - 8 - Best game yet. Dangerous, and what a goal! Long may it continue.

Lambert - 6 - Not involved too heavily. Some good touches but no chances.

Ramirez - 5 - Came on, wasted an attacking free kick, failed to play the ball early enough on a promising counter attack, full time.

Reed - N/A

Cork 7? Are you blind?

Four good:

1 - Jack Cork. After 5 months spent with his arse planted firmly on the bench it may have taken him a while to get back 'on the pace' as it were. Those who saw him today however will confirm that Jack is most definitely back! Would have been my MOTM were it not for yet another outstanding performance for our captain.

2 - Dani Osveldo's wonder strike will surely be a contender for SFC goal of the season. A thing of rare beauty for those who have not seen it yet. He should probably have added to his tally today though.

3 - Young Calum Chambers has the making of a very good player in him methinks. The club will soon have a nice problem ensuring his continuing development and keeping (the equally good) Nathaniel Clyne happy too.

4 - Just how good can Adam Lallana get? This young man is a little diamond of a player I reckon, a player who despite reaching the grand old age of 25 is still noticeably improving. If Roy doesn't pick him for our forthcoming 'rumble in the jungle' next summer ... well there must be something very wrong with the game then I reckon.

Two not so good:

1 - Not really at fault for their goal today, but to be frank about it Gazzaniga inspires zero confidence in this fan. We got a point today because he hardly had a proper save to make after they scored. More worryingly I don't think the rest of the team are particularly inspired by the sight of him between the sticks either. I must add (for what it's worth) that there was a nasty rumour going around the Chapel stand today that Artur Boruc won't play again this season.

2 - The away fans. Considering the quality of the players they have to support and the great chance they still have to win the league, I thought they were a pretty poor bunch on the whole. Indeed, you hardly knew they were there half the time.

A few Conclusions:

A bloody good hard earned point against talent, if somewhat unconvincing, opposition. If someone said to me we even deserved to win it then I'm not going to argue with them. You so often hear managers extolling their teams to believe in themselves and play their game instead of worrying about the opposition. The difference with this team you get the impression the players actually believe it.

Mate... 99.9% are in the same place you are. Don't let the trolls spoil it!

Jeez... Even alps has posted something positive !!

Fwiw I'm just so chuffed ... I had big concerns this morning given our injuries but the game just proved what a great thing mopo is putting together.

New faces and the transition was seamless. And full backs were obviously given licence to attack... We looked much more dangerous than on weds.

On what basis were they saying that? I can't imagine a broken bone in his hand would keep him out any longer than 6 weeks.

Why are you so anti Gazziniga ??

Just remember that Kelvin gave our defenders the sh*ts on many many occasions, NEVER commanded his area, and was on more than one occasion very suspect with crosses. Fact. View past performances.

NO Goalkeeper slots in after one game, or two. Only an extended run sorts out if they have what it takes. I reckon he WILL prove the doubters wrong

I don't know if the club doctor was in the Chapel but that would be a fairly unusual bone break if Boruc were not to play again this season. In saying that I hope we're in the market for a couple of players in January, one of which is a 'keeper.

Just what the doctor ordered.

well done to the players, and especially well done to Mopo.

Seems we might have a bit more squad depth than first glance suggests. Good result

Have you seen the goal yet Alps? It's not bad for a South American parasite!

Great to see Chambers play so well today and how good it is to see Shaw running at people and getting crosses in, he needs to do it more.

I'm just repeating what I heard. A young goalkeeper, a lad who also suffered from a broken bone in the hand, told me that a keeper just can't play after that type of injury for quote: 'many months' unquote.

Now that might be right, that might equally be completely wrong - but that is what I was told.

Cheers CEC. I must admit I'm no expert on hand injuries (amongst other things!)

A high-energy performance brought us a fully deserved point. Perhaps our squad isn't so thin after all. Several players had excellent games, with Chambers for me just pipping Lovren, Cork and Davis for Man of the Match. Unremarked upon so far (I think) has been Pochettino's clever tactical adjustment to our formation, pulling Ward-Prowse a bit deeper and playing a 4-3-2-1 for most of the game to negate City's attacking threat. This was key and enabled us to control most of the game and restrict City to fewer chances than I thought they'd create. Full credit to Osvaldo for his goal too - a wonderful strike of his own making. A £15 million deal should buy a lot of player, and we saw some more of that ability today. I hope two in two is just the start of a lengthy scoring run for him, and this is the start of another unbeaten run for the team.
