100%Red&White Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Third round draw takes place this weekend, hopefully we'll now take it a bit more seriously. Could be the game that we'll see the return of Boruc and Wanyama.
Dr Who? Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Fancy po*pey..... Oh hold on! Lol Would love to get Cambridge Utd at the Abbey.... If they get through. Think we will take the FA Cup seriously, but let's get to 40 points and then enjoy the season from mid February onwards.
Olallana Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Can´t see us use players for this game if it´s their first game coming back from injury.
S-Clarke Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Still confuses me as to why we belittle the cups. We have a real good chance of a cup run this year, and we should have got a lot further in the league cup. Now with the injuries we're picking up, it looks like they were rested in those games for no reason really. Doesn't look like we're going to do anything this season other than bog standard mid-table (which is progress, don't get me wrong!) but it would have been nice to have a bit of excitement in the cup, but the club don't seem to care about that. Nothing beats a day out at Wembley, no matter what cup it is. It can make an average season look so much brighter.
bender Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Whats the point of being a half decent side in the Prem if you're not going to try in the cups !! It's the only genuine chance you have of Wembley and glory. Ild rather have one day out at Wembley than loads of qualifiers in the pointless Euro wafer cup.
SaintNeil90 Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Its the FA Cup, we should take this one seriously! We arent going to win the league, we arent going to get relegated, we can only hope for Europa League (even though I despise the competition!). I'd love a trip to Wembley, its our best hope of a trophy!!
Hatch Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 some shyte team from non league at home please. and £5 a ticket to watch.
richie Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Away at a ground I've not been to. championship team at home written all over it!!!!
Lets B Avenue Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Ild rather have one day out at Wembley than loads of qualifiers in the pointless Euro wafer cup. You do realise that one invariably leads to the other.
Lets B Avenue Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 This What if you've been to the ground, but Granty hasn't?
teenagegsaint Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Bournemouth away, never been to their ground! If not, AFC Wimbledon away
Lets B Avenue Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 If not, AFC Wimbledon away Away teams get about 500 tickets. Fancy your chances?
100%Red&White Posted 6 December, 2013 Author Posted 6 December, 2013 Away teams get about 500 tickets. Fancy your chances? Make it MK Dons and we can have 5,000+ I'll stick me neck out and say it will be Reading home or away. For obvious reasons.
stevegrant Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 What if you've been to the ground, but Granty hasn't? Won't be many of those
Batman Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Won't be many of those Mate, nath was going to message you on FB to see if you can get him some tickets for when he is back in the country. I unfortunately, cant this time. Just thought I would let you know.
stevegrant Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Mate, nath was going to message you on FB to see if you can get him some tickets for when he is back in the country. I unfortunately, cant this time. Just thought I would let you know. Already sorted
Barry Sanchez Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 I would imagine the instructions from above are to play youth and push on in the League, similar to the League Cup scenario.
JRM Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Non league side, away. Salisbury away (if they somehow get through against Port Vale)
SNOWY Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Brighton away would be good, probably get Birmingham or Leicester at home.
studentsaint Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Couldn't care less this season, don't have the squad to compete in 2 tournements, with current injuries they can't even deal with the league.
CB Fry Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Couldn't care less this season, don't have the squad to compete in 2 tournements, with current injuries they can't even deal with the league. What kind of season can you envisage where you would care? Being that we got to the final with far less resource than we have now not long ago.
Special K Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 We could do with a good cup run. Don't understand all this "save ourselves for the league" pony, especially as we'll be mid table at best, come May. A good cup run is good for the soul of the club and the city as a whole. 2003 was a brilliant run and some memorable days out. And I bet the players look back on that fondly, especially when they are remembered as a Cup finalist. What good is it to a player to say "yeah I never played in a cup final, but I did come 10th in the PL a few times". Big yawn! Seriously though, let's take the cup seriously and make a bloody good fist of trying to win it, if only to rub it in more to those fishy f***pigs down the road.
Appy Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 What if you've been to the ground, but Granty hasn't? If Steve hasn't been to the ground I very much doubt I have.
Griffo Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Away to Chesterfield, Fleetwood, Burton, Newport, or Rotherham away for new grounds. Failing that then a non-league away trip would be decent.
Tomobz Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 I really want us to try and win the FA Cup. It is a massive competition for saints (the second biggest and the biggest one we could actually win!) Anyone who doesn't think the FA Cup is important needs to get over themselves and go ask a skate fan about their history...
trousers Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Anyone who doesn't think the FA Cup is important needs to get over themselves and go ask a skate fan about their history... Are you suggesting we buy players we can't afford ahead of going into administration just to be able to gloat about winning a cup?
110_Persaint Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Are you suggesting we buy players we can't afford ahead of going into administration just to be able to gloat about winning a cup? Brilliant:lol:
Lord Duckhunter Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Would quite like to abuse Redknapp again, but he won't be bothered if we beat them. So no fun there. Boscombe would be quite good to shut a couple of plums who live near me up, but we could lose, so maybe not. Nice trip to London would be good, maybe Millwall . Away game would be nice , at least the people moaning about allocations will be able to build up some points on their customer numbers.
John Boy Saint Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 We will be going up the Ar$e or to the Totts: "everybody peeps"
Matthew Le God Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 I want the worst team left in the competition and to play them at St Mary's. I want Saints to have the best possible chance of winning the FA Cup, so want the same for every round.
SNSUN Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 I want the worst team in the competition and to play them at St Mary's. I want Saints to have the best possible chance of winning the FA Cup. +1. Look at our run to the 2003 final. Spurs aside (which we anihilated anyway), we played lower league opposition all the way through the competition. (Despite making hard work of Millwall...)
stevegrant Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Only two genuine upsets in the second round, which leaves only 4 non-league teams in the hat for the third round: Grimsby Town, Kidderminster Harriers, Macclesfield Town and Wrexham (playing Oxford tomorrow night). 1 AFC Bournemouth 2 Arsenal 3 Aston Villa 4 Barnsley 5 Birmingham City 6 Blackburn Rovers 7 Blackpool 8 Bolton Wanderers 9 Brighton & Hove Albion 10 Burnley 11 Cardiff City 12 Charlton Athletic 13 Chelsea 14 Crystal Palace 15 Derby County 16 Doncaster Rovers 17 Everton 18 Fulham 19 Huddersfield Town 20 Hull City 21 Ipswich Town 22 Leeds United 23 Leicester City 24 Liverpool 25 Manchester City 26 Manchester United 27 Middlesbrough 28 Millwall 29 Newcastle United 30 Norwich City 31 Nottingham Forest 32 Queens Park Rangers 33 Reading 34 Sheffield Wednesday 35 Southampton 36 Stoke City 37 Sunderland 38 Swansea City 39 Tottenham Hotspur 40 Watford 41 West Bromwich Albion 42 West Ham United 43 Wigan Athletic 44 Yeovil Town 45 Sheffield United 46 Preston North End 47 Port Vale 48 Bristol Rovers or Crawley Town 49 Milton Keynes Dons 50 Carlisle United 51 Macclesfield Town 52 Southend United 53 Oldham Athletic or Mansfield Town 54 Rochdale 55 Peterborough United 56 Hartlepool United or Coventry City 57 Kidderminster Harriers 58 Plymouth Argyle 59 Wrexham or Oxford United 60 Fleetwood Town or Burton Albion 61 Grimsby Town 62 Leyton Orient 63 Bristol City 64 Stevenage
Batman Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 with our injury thing going on grimsby at home please
The Kraken Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 Someone lower leagues and at home please. Although if we treat the FA Cup with the same disdain as we did the League Cup then its pretty pointless in any case. Hopefully we'll actually try to win this one. Got a strange feeling that we'll be drawn away to a Premier League team.
M271 Posted 8 December, 2013 Posted 8 December, 2013 We'll probably get a reasonable championship team away (Leeds, Leicester, Derby etc) , so classed as a giant killing but a very difficult match.
