Glasgow_Saint Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 Kudos all round - Everton are playing well, scoring goals and look good at the back. Alot of us thought Martinez would fail but he is doing a grand. Lost a key player in Fellaini and lost Baines to injury Sometimes you just have to stand back and just say
Glasgow_Saint Posted 5 December, 2013 Author Posted 5 December, 2013 Saints related? General sports surely we play them soon & they are in our league
OldNick Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 we play them soon & they are in our league not saints related at present and the thread is nothing to do with the upcoming game but the thoughts on another teams manager, no relevance IMO
corky morris Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 The 3 they signed in the last couple of the transfer window was quality business. If we only had Lukaku!!! Makes all of ours look a bit pooooooo!
Monkou Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 Alot of us thought Martinez would fail but he is doing a grand. Really? Or do you mean you did? I think most people recognised he was one of the best managers in the country several years ago. It was a surprise he turned down Liverpool, we don't know what went on there, but he did well at swansea and a wigan side who really should have gone down years ago so I´d say most people expected him to do well at Everton.
labibs Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 Thing is a lot of their best players are on loan, which is clearly unsustainable. Barry, Lukaku and Deofelu have scored not far off half their goals this season in the league, players which (possibly Barry apart) won't be there next season. Yes he's doing well, but I just wonder if long term they are not in something of a false position. They will likely also need to replace Distin for next season, which will not be easy to do on the cheap.
aintforever Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 Martinez is showing Moyes up big time. I can't believe Man Utd hired him on the back of 11 years of winning naff all.

Everton fans want Distin replaced with Lescott next season and that is not beyond the realms of possibility, I'm not too sure about a false position, they are a top 7 club, a lot more realistic than our claims, and we are one of the closest to them in terms of quality but still a mile apart. Cortese and Pochettino has an awful lot to grasp.
Saint Garrett Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 Martinez is a top manager. Fair play to him. Not Saints related though - and they've used the loan system to their benefit. Be interesting to see what happens next season. They also have some cracking players of their own though.
jasoneuelllfanclub Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 I wonder how Everton would do if they had injuries to their key players like us? To me they have a very good first choice 11 but like us struggle with strength in depth. If Distin or Jagelka got injured I am sure they would be significantly weakened. Having said that Oviedo hasnt done too badly since replacing Baines.
Solid Saint Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 Fair play to Martinez & Everton, going great guns at the moment. As other have said though, over reliance on loan players can seriously bite you in the arse at some point.

They have a centreback called John Stones and expect good things from him, they also have Heitinga, you only have to look at that sqaud to see its top 7 unless there is a huge upset.

saint michael Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 been in dressing room when he was captain of a team and believe me he knows his stuff and inspirational on team around him. All teams struggle with injuries even big squads and especially key positions like keeper. Don't judge gazza harshly or poch trend is good and setbacks will happen on our journey upwards
Barry Sanchez Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 He is the Everton fans scapegoat old Heitinga. He is but its not a bad back up and no Evertonian will tell he is not, they all say no way a 1st teamer but a good step up.
Batman Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 He is but its not a bad back up and no Evertonian will tell he is not, they all say no way a 1st teamer but a good step up. everton the new norwich for bazza?
Barry Sanchez Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 everton the new norwich for bazza? Dont know to what you refer but they are a good side and better than Norwich, living away from Southampton for years and you begin to see other teams with an open mind.
S-Clarke Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 A pretty stable side to be honest. You can't just dismiss Moyes, he built that side on very few funds over a period of time and provided Martinez with a very good base to work from. His style of football seems to go hand in hand with their players though. And their squad is so much stronger than ours, that's why I think they've got a chance of holding out for a European side. Still got a few years of building until we can have a squad like theirs.
DuncanRG Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 I've been very impressed by the versatility of both the new manager and the players he inherited. He's tinkered with all kinds of different styles this season and the players have responded every time, which takes an intelligent squad as well as a dedicated and talented one. Cultivated a good team spirit as well.
Barry Sanchez Posted 5 December, 2013 Posted 5 December, 2013 A good all round squad, their fans give them a few points a season as well, always liked the club and pleased they are doing well after Moyes has left.
Dark Munster Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 A good all round squad, their fans give them a few points a season as well, always liked the club and pleased they are doing well after Moyes has left. I didn't like them on 14 April, 1984.
wild-saint Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 A good all round squad, their fans give them a few points a season as well, always liked the club and pleased they are doing well after Moyes has left. oh what a superb post. lots of positives to be seen there. even praising the fans. i guess thats one more positive post you have made about everton than you have about your supposed own team. i haveto wonder why you spend so much time on this board.
MusicMan Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Moyes has been trying to get Everton above Man United in the league for years, He finally managed to do it the other night.
Charlie Wayman Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Maybe we should have signed him when we made it to the PL? Still, good to see he's polishing his act for the time soon when 'The Southampton Call' comes. Effing Everton they got Moyes when he was touted to come here, now Martinez. We're slipping up big time
adrian lord Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Martinez is showing Moyes up big time. I can't believe Man Utd hired him on the back of 11 years of winning naff all. Ferguson just wanted another jock pal to get the gig.
John Boy Saint Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Much maligned manager by the ignorant.
Lets B Avenue Posted 6 December, 2013 Posted 6 December, 2013 Much maligned manager by the ignorant. Who? Surely not Original Bournemouth Bulls hitter?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 25 March, 2014 Author Posted 25 March, 2014 Wow... Fair play Everton, what a great season theyve had! Martinez manager of the year imho
Saint Charlie Posted 25 March, 2014 Posted 25 March, 2014 Clever loan signings and hugely bizarre how Moyes just ignored Barkley. He really has no clue.
Saint Garrett Posted 25 March, 2014 Posted 25 March, 2014 Why is this still on the saints forum ? General sports...
Glasgow_Saint Posted 25 March, 2014 Author Posted 25 March, 2014 Clever loan signings and hugely bizarre how Moyes just ignored Barkley. He really has no clue. Agreed
jawillwill Posted 25 March, 2014 Posted 25 March, 2014 Which mod is Glasgow Saint bumming not to be banned? I presume its Boj.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 25 March, 2014 Author Posted 25 March, 2014 Just had a chuckle reading this. Just so much bitterness and reluctance to acknowledge a fantastic job. I am happy to call it if something great happens elsewhere.... Why not!?. Sure we are Saints 1st, but we are all football fans right? Also more hypercritical behaviour from those that accuse me of "ruining every thread" Either comment on topic or politely or simply ignore please..... adrian and garrett and co Thanks
Barry Sanchez Posted 25 March, 2014 Posted 25 March, 2014 Because we are or were snapping at all their heels after 10 games and that made us better than all of them, well after 10 games anyway, now reality, money, and our actual aims are beginning to show and the ones who genuinely believed champions league football are going a tad red at believing such a lie, turning their nose up at the other European cup and our domestic trophies makes my stomach churn. Who do we think we are? The elite football club or one of them in the Country? We have to earn that by winning things and not producing players for others team to.
Barry Sanchez Posted 25 March, 2014 Posted 25 March, 2014 They wont ignore you, they never will, even they bore or their tiresome agreements of where we actually are, its a sign of losing a disagreement.
Gemmel Posted 25 March, 2014 Posted 25 March, 2014 One of my favourite games this season is when we lost to them........... We didn't get the decisions, but thought it was a great match and heavy weights outside the top 4 going head to head.
DuncanRG Posted 25 March, 2014 Posted 25 March, 2014 Can't look past Brendan Rodgers for manager of the year unless Everton get into the top four, but they are a great team to watch and a likeable club.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 25 March, 2014 Author Posted 25 March, 2014 Do Everton have a far better side than us? Or is Martinez just doing an incredible job? There team tonight... How many would get in our side? 3-4 imho Just incredible what hes done with that squad Everton 24 Howard 23 Coleman 03 Baines 18 Barry 26 Stones 15 Distin 10 Deulofeu 16 McCarthy 17 Lukaku 20 Barkley 21 Osman Substitutes 01 Robles 07 McGeady 11 Mirallas 14 Naismith 29 Garbutt 32 Alcaraz 36 Browning
St Jim Posted 26 March, 2014 Posted 26 March, 2014 Definately Hats off to Martinez but one word ....... Lukaku. He has been such a key player for them. It's amazing the difference he has made to Everton this year and WBA last year. If Chelsea want Shaw I'd try and negotiate a swap with Lukaku.

OldNick Posted 26 March, 2014 Posted 26 March, 2014 As I posted at the start of this thread why is this on the main board ? Are we going to have a thread about a teams manager every time we are about to play them? I assume there will be one about Pardew,at least it could be loosely about Saints

Unbelievable Jeff Posted 26 March, 2014 Posted 26 March, 2014 He's done a very good job (although not much better than Moyes did last season), but he has some excellent players to call upon. A mix between our team and theirs would easily be a Champions League team...but neither are at the moment.
