8th in the league.

above man united (still)

ossie scored

4 huge away games done and out of the way (with 4 points gained)

this bad spell was always going to happen, gutting its now but hopefully the players will be back soon enough

from what I have been told, gaston will 99% be gone in january with the club looking to replace him by buying or loaning

sooner december is done the better.

Good post.

The other positive you missed out is that Saints don't usually start playing until after Christmas. I can recall some great escape seasons where we would of won the league if the league started in January.

It's all good. Nobody died etc.

Good posts Delldays and Turkish; couldn't agree more with both. We always knew we had a good core team, but any injuries (to any of Boruc, Wanyama, Lovren, Morgan, Shaw etc) meant we'd be less likely to keep clean sheets and break up opposition attacks.

why is being above man u a highlight? thats irrelevant

Plus how is being 8th a highlight when the club wants champions league and we were 3rd just 2 weeks ago.

Great player, but was at fault for our 2nd yesterday imho

I haven't seen it again but could Gaza have come and claimed it? It looked like it was headed in about 4yds out?

Maybe not, but he certainly should have kept it out. He got two hands to it and it STILL went in.

For their second goal? You're joking, goalie error. He wasn't at fault at all.

Combination of Lovren, Cork and gazza imho

I think Yoshida has to be more aware of the striker just behind him also, not a big mistake but could have defended it better.

I have given the blame for the 1st goal to Yoshi

1st goal = 80% Yoshi, 20% Gazza

2nd = 40% Lovren, 40% Cork, 20% Gazza

3rd = 90% Yoshi, 10% Gazza

I put this up a couple of weeks ago and certain posters stated I was now on their ignore, that their perogative but its ironic some are now prepared to actually see where we stand.

Some posters on here don’t post about football, they simply post insults to other posters and complain that the forum is not as good as the old days. You do post about Saints and rarely insult other posters but get called a troll (go figure(!?)

You then have some posters who are simply argumentative and simply take the opposing view of the posters they “hate” – I have experimented with this and it was proven after I showed love for Sharp and then Cork, all the clappers who say “support the team” suddenly hated Sharp and Cork. They do however love Guly (no goals in 2 years) Da Prado, Ramirez and Osvaldo “coincidently” as I don’t.

You cant be sensitive to the posters on here as the ones that cry foul and start threads about the forum/ good ol days are imho the biggest bores and trolls on here.

Stick to guns as I for one think youre a great poster – you have an opinion and don’t sit on the fence. This place would be very dull with opinions

Are you saying that you (of all people here) put a thread up with "plus sides"?

We seem to love starting Seven Nation Army chants for players who haven't even moved a finger for the club.

Osvaldo should be doing much more than a tap-in every 2.5 months to get the appreciation of the stands, let alone having the whole stadium singing his name.

As with Ramirez, condescendence and South American players is a dangerous cocktail investment-wise.

Thank you, there is never any need for insults, I keep getting infractions for trolling but frankly I have to disagree, I dont hurl abuse, I dont single people out, I dont bully, I dont harrass, people respond to my posts when they are entitled to put me on ignore, they if you ask me are children who when proved wrong become quite nasty.

It's called reality pal. We had a good start and were on a good run and picked up a few decent results, nothing more. Talk of the champions league was embarrassing. Anyone with any ounce of common sense could see that we we have a first eleven that is match for anyone when everyone is fit and firing, but when people inevitably get injuries and dips in form then we don't have the depth of quality to cope with it at the moment. Guess what? We'll go on another good run before the season is out and the talk of how amazing we are will start again. We aren't, we're a good side and I stand by my prediction that we will finish 8th or 9th and we could finish 7th if a lot goes right. The trouble with helmets like you and you're not alone on here is this, is that people think talking in reality is being negative and highlighting shortcomings.

This is where the happier ones cry to the moderators about lunatics running the asylum and how a few are ruining it for the majority, a forum is a forum and is far better with wide ranging opinions, they will also get defensive and in no way shape or form concede they may perhaps have been optimistic in their appraisal of our side, the ones seen as the more negative should actually be seen as the realistic and level headed ie I have not seen one rant or meltdown from persons exercising good and reserved judgment before the 3 defeats.

Yep. Last night's result is only a catastrophe to people deluded enough to think we'll finish in the top 4. To anyone realistic enough to think we're a half decent side who'll finish 8th to 13th-ish it was just another win some/lose some/draw some Premier League result.

Lots of positives, but also still a long way to go. We've played some brilliant football at times this season, and some real dogged defensive displays. But we just don't have the strength in depth. Are teams working us out? Maybe....but on another night we would have won 3-0 last night and said it was a great performance. Just a bit of a freak result due to poor defending. The back centre 5 (Boruc, Lovren, Fonte, Wanyama and Morgan) are so so impoortant to how we play. Without one or two of these, we're really struggling as the backup is just not good enough to step in.

It's not really changed since the start of the season attacking wise - we haven't been potent up front at all all season - but we'd still get a 0-0 or nick a 1-0. Now we've started letting in goals, and we're losing games. Need to get back on it and get our players fit.

Posted

Positives? Well we are genuinely competing with all teams we play against. Put in a better clinical edge both going forward and in our decision making at the back/midfield and we will be even better still.

Had we lost the last three games meekly I would be worried, instead there were points available that we didn't get due to being our own worst enemy.

Sorry, how do you work out that Gazzaniga was at fault at all for any of those goals last night?! Only someone with an agenda against him could suggest that. The first and third goals he had absolutely no chance with. The second I can maybe accept one might argue he could have come for the cross but to be fair, the ball should a) never have been crossed in the first place and b) Yoshida can't lose his man 7 yards out.

No agenda here, I am apathetic on gazza just now. Hes not played enough for me to judge him truely.

I applied a small percentage of blame as he is the GK and its his job is to block the ball from entering the goal, its also his job to move off his line when danger approaches. Sadly for Gazza he demo'd neither quality last night so must shoulder some small blame.

would agree with most of that except to add that our " success " this season has depended on the regular use of 6-7 good players in the first dozen or so matches, the replacements just don't seem upto it and our " big money signings " just don't seem to fit the bill for a side with our Euro ambitions .....and still 2/3rds of the season to go.

Despite Arsenal going top of the table (with no real top class performers except perhaps Ramsey).....and no really settled side. They have still won games and have a good squad - and we don't YET.

I think MP's style is good, and even with fit players it'll take a team of supermen to go 38 games at the same pace. We need a better bench with reliable replacements for injury / suspension situations.

I'm as eager as anyone to see more Academy lads coming in, but it's not the time to do that at such a critical stage. We need to get a good chunk of the next 18-21 points - if we are to stay in the race.

I'm not suggesting a lot of £12 million signings in January, but a few more of the quality of Lovren or Clyne would be a good investment.....not to mention another goalie and a striker .......to give us options.

I'd say their entire team has been top class and Ramsey is just the crown jewel. Some of their play has been world class and their defence is becoming meaner as well.

It may be 3 defeats in a row, but TBH only the Villa result is unfortunate. How many other teams playing away in successive matches at The Emirates and Stamford Bridge would have gained even 1 point ?

Posted
Here's a positive: Saints lowering our expectations of them nice and early in the season, instead of making us all dream and f**king it all up towards the end like we always do.

Glasgow - remember, don't try so hard.

Posted
We're still in the hunt for the coveted 6th place spot without the hassle of a League Cup Quarter Final to worry about.

Absolutely. If we were still in that joke of a competition we'd probably be battling against relegation. I mean LOOK AT WIGAN LOOK AT WIGAN LOOK AT WIGAN.

Posted
Lovren isn't a flash in the pan, he is genuinely a class player.

Apart from last night, when he looked like a robot with a slight malfunction. Worst game he's had for us since pre-season, and I'm blaming Yoshida for that too.

Posted

Positives - likely to see some quality additions to the squad in the next couple of transfer windows.

Negatives - who'll take on some of the "surplus to requirements" players we now have on the books?

To navigate to a possible top 8 spot by the end of this season I think we'll need to

1. Buy a decent back-up for Boruc

2. Replace Yosh/Jos with another Lovren

3. Replace Gaston with a similar player who fits our style better

4. Pick JRod and Ossie as our preferred front 2 and use SRL as a super-sub until his form comes back

Posted

You all love each other really.

Loving the last few years as a Saints fan, still think we can continue to improve. There will be ups and downs, but as long as we make steady progress at the football club every season, that is fine. I think we will improve on last season don't you?

The future is still very bright and I can only see positives.

We are having an injury crisis, but we still battered Villa, but somehow lost.

40 points is the first aim, but we can still challenge for a top 6 finish, but probably 8/10th.

Just enjoy it everyone.
