ericofarabia Posted 5 December, 2013 Share Posted 5 December, 2013 It certainly seems to be kicking in pretty early!! Injuries to key players, two loses, nearly doubling our previous 12 games goals against column in 4 days, 1st home defeat of the season and sliding down the table. Anybody remember when Chris Nicholl won it and we were getting high praise from all quarters for blooding young English talent and playing flowing football and nicely placed in the table ......... followed by a run of 22 games without a win. Lightning can't strike the same place twice can it?
CanadaSaint Posted 5 December, 2013 Share Posted 5 December, 2013 God, you're a bundle of joy on a chilly winter morning after a tough loss.
Saint Garrett Posted 5 December, 2013 Share Posted 5 December, 2013 It is worrying and we could easily lose the next 6 too. (Not that I think we will) Man City Newcastle Spurs Cardiff Everton Chelsea

JRM Posted 5 December, 2013 Share Posted 5 December, 2013 And I thought he won the award for october.... the curse kicks in after the award is presented which in this case was before Arsenal. I remember the Nicholl season well - we only just stayed up and a run of a few defeats started a rut we couldn't get out of. last night's defeat was so disappointing as I don't think we'll win a game this month now. adrian lord Posted 5 December, 2013 Share Posted 5 December, 2013 Cortese's mood must be darkening by the minute. MPo must be slightly uneasy going into the debrief this morning. Lose Saturday and then at Newcastle, Spurs and it suddenly take on an air of relegation form.

david in sweden Posted 7 December, 2013 Share Posted 7 December, 2013 few can deny that MP deserved the prize (based on early performances), but that award really is the " kiss of death " isn't it? ....when you see what's happened in the short time since. Saint Fan CaM Posted 7 December, 2013 Share Posted 7 December, 2013 And what we know for certain is Poch is not responsible for the depth of the squad. Hence he will only take a battering if he shows that his nerve is breaking. I do not believe this will happen, however I am reminded of his last season at his previous club whereby lack of resources did for him I believe. DuncanRG Posted 7 December, 2013 Share Posted 7 December, 2013 I read an interesting book by a psychologist called Daniel Kahneman which pointed out that the 'curse of Sports Illustrated' (ie if you're performing well enough to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated) is inevitable, because to earn that recognition you have to be unusually good. After that you 'regress to the mean', making you look worse by comparison. The probability of someone outdoing themselves and maintaining that level henceforth is verfy slim. It would be a pretty dramatic drop if we get beat more than once in the next few games though...
